Ya know, u gotta hand it to Prince for putting all he has into his music. Even when he doesn't have the most interesting idea, he stands behind it with conviction. That said, I think he spent way too much time on a pretty weak idea. Lyrically and musically. This track is kinda embarrassing and a total bastardization of his classic MPLS sound. | |

You're entitled to your opinion of course and my comment won't go in this territory but you know what? Write your own songs instead of criticizing. Create and then you talk...  I agree with u Klaatu. I'm probably one of the most critical people you'll ever meet, but this song is 10x better than anything getting played on the radio. Much better than all of the "Prince-inspired" trax we're hearing on the radio now. Over the years, I've figured out that there are 2 different kinds of Prince fans. The rock fans and the funk fans. The rock fans seem to ALWAYS despise the funk songs. The funk fans ALWAYS call his rock stuff "ok" or "lame". He may be ready 2 release an album, AND startup a new music-based website. He might just be tossing us this tune just 4 kicks. He may, in fact, be ready 2 release a 2 part album... one with the stuff we heard on the radio, and more... and one more Funk/R&B based. I'm not sure, myself, but one thing I am sure of... It's a nice, light, pop-like groove... I still say this can not possibly be what JB was talking about, when he used "Controversy" as a comparison. "Controversy" is hard, fat, throbbing FUNK... The music touches you, the vocal line touches you, the lyrics are fresh and new. It could be a classic, I'm not sure yet. The thing that holds it back for me is that it should of been about a girl. You know how Prince did the 'Purple House' song on the Rave DVD? Give people sonething they can relate to, something they can cry too! That's what I want from Prince. Right now I can only appreciate CM intellectually. Maybe I need to play it a few more times. But still it's the best musical piece he has released in a long long time. | |
