NPGMC Expectations = second tier product Face it. As members of the NPGMC we're never gonna be exposed to the top flight, mainstream stuff. It's always going to be the rarities and little ditties and throwaways that Prince can cook up in his sleep.
This is fine by me. I like that sort of thing. I think it's wise for people to consider this when talking about how 'poor' last year was or indeed how this year will turn out to be. Maybe part of the reason of the club is to clear way the detritus for us fans to lap up. If Prince has another 'Sign O the Times' or 'Parade' up his sleeve, he sure as hell is gonna want as many people to listen. Record company anyone?

Nobody is complaining about the quality of the new songs. I for one think ONA contains some of his best tracks ever.
The reason last year was "poor" to some was because it contained music people already owned (Thieves, Horny Pony) and essentially one album (High). If he included more songs like Splash and Rebirth rehearsal, there would have been no complaining. Prince has a hundred great unreleased songs and thousands of great live recordings. Most of these songs are not going to be released on a major label later on in the future... in fact, they are simply not going to be released at all unless the owner of his estate (upon his death) shares a different morality than Larry, Inc. That is what gets me annoyed about the club. I have no problem getting the obscurities and rarities... in fact I love it. However, he's not saving all his Revolution tracks and 80s outtakes for a major label release... he's keeping most of them unreleased because they don't line up with his current moral beliefs. again, you hit it right on the nail, brian!! his self-censorship is maddening. i never want anything to happen to the man, EVER, but if something does, let's hope that someone with common sense is in charge and realizes that not releasing some of those masterpieces b/c of the different morality he developed later in life is like killing his "children." No confusion, no tears. No enemies, no fear. No sorrow, no pain. No ball, no chain.

LOL! That's funny. I saw this poor lonely thread floating around in here for 3 days and almost responded to it just to give it some attention when my connection broke. Yeah, I've said before that the days of a fully consistent, end-to-end asskicker of a CD by Prince are gone, and have been since SOTT. I don't care either. I like it better this way, feeling I know something most people don't. I'd almost hate to see Prince up there on the charts amidst shit like Shakira, Britney, Now That's What I Call Music #504 or any other flavor of the month. I ask this question a lot, since we're still talking about Prince after 20 some odd years: Who are the artists/musicians TODAY that we'll still be talking about in 2020? Hard to think of any.
