Which albums are not available only thru downloads? And what do you think about download CD-R's versus the real CD with the art work etc? Thanks Currently available only as downloads are The Slaughterhouse, The Chocolate Invasion, Xpectation and C-NOTE. And of course there is a splattering of individual tracks: Glasscutter, Strange Relationship (live), 3 tracks live from Paisley Park, United States of Division, Silver Tongue, Magnificent, Controversy (live), Bataclan tracks (live) Plus the live videos you could rip audio from: Vanguard Jam, Question Of U, Reflection, Much More Music performance. Real CDs are clearly better quality - essentially, mp3s and wmas do have worse sound quality than properly recorded .wavs on music CDs, although you can't always hear it if they are created well. Plus you've got all the packaging. But without all the packaging and delivery costs, downloads are cheaper for us and cheaper and easier for Prince to put out. CD writers are very cheap and useable these days so making your own CD-R is pretty simple. Thats all well and good but the next time he'll get any of my hard earned is when I get a disc that I can keep. I'm just old fashioned that way.

But you can burn the downloads onto a disk to keep! You don't get the artwork, but making your own is a lot of fun. I don't understand why the Club doesn't supply downloadable covers as part of the package anyway. The sound quality is a tiny bit worse than manufactured CDs - but in the future they will figure a way to keep the same quality still with the size of an mp3, or smaller. Ultimately CDs are far more vulnerable than digital files - eventually I'm sure we will do away with CDs in favour of some tiny sold-state memory media. Ultimately, these albums may never be released on official CD. I'd rather listen to them on my computer or on a home-burned CD-R than never listen to them.

Anxiety said: i don't think kamasutra is the best thing he's ever done - not even close - but i do think there are a lot of interesting little ideas swimming around in the murk. it's not something i would give to one of my friends who like prince but can kinda take him or leave him. they'd leave this thing in a skipped heartbeat. but for fans who really enjoy paying attention to the details in his music, i think it can be a gratifying listen. it's not great, but it's not the aural hemlock that some folks make it out to be.
I agree with ya on Kamasutra. Now, I love this album when I'm in the mood. Maybe when I'm an old man on the porch I will be listening to the easier sounds of Prince. Maybe a lot of us will be listening to his Jazz/instrumental work a lot more when/if we make it to 80! Or Maybe you will all be still jammin "Gett Off" Lol. This is a instrumental album and Prince does seem to use a lot of synth, IMO its worth the $7 but if you haven't downloaded "Chocolate" or "Slaughterhouse" yet go with them 1st.

I am pretty convinced that my (bad) opinion of Kamasutra would prevail even if I had got it as an independent release. D. --

I have scoured Ebay, and can't find Kamasutra available for purchase. Is this download my best bet?

If I recall correctly, Prince wrote Kamasutra in 1993/4. It was a project he was working on when he was dating Nona Gaye and his harem at the same time.
Kamasutra is an all instrumental album that fuses classic, pop, and Jazz with varying crescendo elements. Kamasutra is a CD for people who like to listen to experimental music. On an experimental level, Kamasutra is a good CD. When Prince engaged himself to Mayte Janelle Garcia, he released a statement that he wrote Kamasutra for her. He could have since she was working for him in '94. His official release was the Crystal Ball 5th CD, which I own. A copy of Kamasutra was released in 1995 with Nona Gaye on the cover. The '95 release is exactly like the Crystal Ball recording. Kamasutra is one of those CDs you should listen to when its storming outside or when you're sitting in the dark sipping on a nice drink reflecting on how you can accomplish your life goals.

I'm not saying you're wrong... but Uptown's The Vault says that Kama Sutra was worked on between '94 - '96. It was first released on a cassette in 1997 through 1-800-New Funk to celebrate the first anniversary of Prince and Mayte's wedding - so I doubt that it would have Nona Gaye on the cover! But I don't know for sure...

why download it? Well, I like to experience things for myself. And since I am trying to be a good fan, er, fam, I don't want to d/l it illegally. But I would like to get the cheapest. I probably won't like it, like Batman, GB, and For You but at least I heard them for myself and have given them all a try. "Remember, one man's filler is another man's killer" -- Haystack

Making a digital copy of an analog session does not make it better quality. Burning a CD or MD at least you have some control over the sound. ::Brother, can you paradigm?::

Sign O The Times is an exception, it is well known that this has a very subdued sound, who knows why? It was 1987 though, CDs had only been around a couple of years so the technology wasn't so advanced - a lot of albums got remastered mid-nineties, shame Sign wasn't one of them.

any opinions? [b]It is not that good but I am a Prince fan and therefore will buy whatever he puts out. I happened to buy it along with the Crystal ball CD. "The Truth" acoustic CD which also came with Crystal Ball was pretty good.

any opinions? Belatedly, I'll give my opinion. Musically, yes, it's OK. Fidelity-wise, forget it. Find a used hardcopy disc if you can. The download I got is only 192kbps and sounds like crap in many places. By contrast, the downloadable C-Note album is 577kbps, and sounds fairly decent. Just my opinion, you understand.
