You all are overreacting. You all are acting like every other day you're getting tons of e-mail from NPGMC. But of course you can op-out... it's called "cancel membership"

can't really cancel your membership with the club or get a refund or anything of that sort, they've got your money even if you stop going to the site.

making a simple observation and commenting on something (as i've done in the past couple posts) is by no means "overreacting".

Are you saying that if you cancel your membership you think you'll still get the dredded e-mails that you despise? What's your point?

My comment about overreacting was directed to "you all" - meaning the ones complaining about the e-mails. If you're not in that group, then I'm not referring to you.
"You've got to believe in something... why not believe in me?"

Gee whiz. People always have to complain don't they. If your not interested in reading reports of the parties then just dont. If Prince wants to give parties and hang out with his celebrity friends fine, whats the problem? U people are such haters. It's just information. No more no less.

With all due respect, the NPGMC kinda crams this crap down our throats via its spam efforts. I'm really not complaining, just stating the fact that I am quite apathetic about P's late nite jam fests.

That is NOT spam. Spam is unsolicited junk. It's part of the membership. And they rarely send anything out anyway.

Just got this in my e-mail:

Hello NPGMC,

The 3121 Report: Vanguard Jam

How does one top receiving a Vanguard Award from the NAACP (broadcast
March 25th on Fox)? You throw a get down, funk-filled,
momma-thank-you-for-going-thru-16-hours-of-pain so that I can experience this moment!

PRINCE, is a true VANGUARD hero (defined as the forefront of an action
or movement) -- and I knew he was definitely going to make it a point
to prove it! Gotta hit 3121 tonite! I whipped out my cel phone and
dialed my contact: So am I in? "No I'm sorry the list is closed." What
do you mean the list is closed? You always sneak me in! "No, its a
private party." They are always private parties! Come on, please!!
"Really, why are you such a nuisance? Haven't you been to enough parties?"
NO! You got me hooked now you're going to leave me without my hit?
Silence on the other end of the phone. Hello? Can you hear me? Can you
hear me now? "Yes I can hear you. *Sigh* Just you, and you alone. You
come with anyone else and you will not be allowed in." Click.

YES!

"Thru the gates, knock on the door... " Well, I didn't have an
opportunity to do so, as the hostesses opened the door replete in purple
embroidered tops. Nice. Purple is the theme tonite! Upon closer
inspection, I noticed they all had "3121" necklaces and earrings... hmm
interesting. I make my way to the kitchen after gaping open mouthed for at
least a full minute at the five foot tall chocolate fountain of yum -- I
glance around and notice all the servers and chefs are in "3121" gear.
Okay, so maybe the theme isn't purple but "3121".

I pass by the bar and pick up an M&M but instead of an M -- its
"3121"!! "Okay, what's really going on here?" I ask the patron next to me,
who just happened to be Angela Bassett! She smiled that ever so famous
grin, and said "Party at 3121!" Prophetic words indeed because within
ten minutes of uttering said phrase, the house was full! Oprah, Salma,
Orlando Bloom, Jaime Foxx, Gabrielle Union, Gary Dourdan, Tavis Smiley,
Dr. Cornel West, regulars Joni Mitchell, Camilla Parker-Bowles, Herbie Hancock, Regina King,
Kimberly Elise, director Taylor Hackford, Sheila E, ?uestlove, Stevie
Wonder, Yolanda Adams, Christina Aguilera, Lynn Whitfield, Moriss Day,
Jerome Benton, Steve Baltin, JJ Abrahams, Mekhi Pfiefer, Randy Jackson,
Vanessa Williams, Wanda Sykes... oh lawd, fuggedaboutit. I don't have
enough energy to go through the whole constellation because I had to
save it up for THREE HOURS of hot licks, sick riffs and SOUL!

Party initially started at 11pm but didn't truly start until 4:15am!
That's when the crowd was bombarded with classic jams insanely
reinvented by PRINCE and his house band. If I were truly in my right mind I
would have remembered all the joints covered, but alas -- I was too drunk
on that funk!

What I do remember was a drum off with John Blackwell and Cora Coleman!
Lawdy! You could smell bacon cookin' from all the heat on them skins!

Then a voice out of nowhere: "the drums are calling, Sheila E.. the
drums are calling.." Miss E appeared in full glory and taught John and
Cora a lil' sumpthin. Just when that synchopation nearly re-set my
heart beat... here comes ?uestlove and Cora for round 3! Kat Dyson on
guitar, Prince on Hohner, Greg Boyer on trombone with two other cats from
Sheila's band...

Too much, too much! and then.. .and then!!!! STEVIE WONDER? GOOD
LAWD say it ain't so!!

Tell me I cannot see through walls at the red lanterns paving a path to
that distinctive symbol as a backdrop to historic jams? Am I
dreaming?!?!

What? Me? In Prince's living room, he's only TWO feet away and
directing this complety phenomenal group of talented musicians? All Prince
had to do was nod and they KNEW. Their eyes never left him as they were
playing the skin cells off of their fingers. Keys were pounded and
begged for mercy. Strings were broken but kept their tune, skins were
beaten like a red-headed step child! The place was INSANE! And I thought
I was either gonna pass out or make out with my contact for allowing me
the privilege of being present at 3121.

The night ended at 7am. As I left, there to the left was a last supper
of omlettes and discourse by Joni, Prince, Stevie, Herbie and a select
few.

The bright sun greeted me wildly brilliant as if to say, "You know what
just happened, Right?" Oh Lord, thank you.

As I waited for valet to retrieve my car I glance over to the left and
see a photobooth with a sign that says "Please take 2 sets of fotos, 1
4 U, 1 4 our host!"

Hmmm..

Somewhere in Prince's house there's a pile of photo booth pics and in
the midst of them, there's a snapshot of someone grinning like a chesire
with crude sign that says THANK YOU. Thats me.

"3121 - U can come if U want 2 but U can never leave"... smile

Damn smart move on P's part. Like someone said, these parties keep his name out there and lets everyone know that he is still around and tearin shit up. He can try out new jams from time to time, collaborate with people in an intimate and spontaneous environment, and all at his home. Its not like P has been letting the general public get their hands on new music before club members. I look forward to finding out what this is all about, and hopefulluy getting some advance copy or special perk, but i really only want quality music.

i just want to say that I love love love prince and I in no way want to write anything that isn't beautiful about him but I am sad inside and miss prince. i miss the prince that allowed npg music club members into soundchecks. i miss the prince at the celebrations in minneapolis. i miss the prince that was connecting with us fans in this insanely intimate way. ever since prince's resurgence to the mainstream i am missing him. i am truly happy that he is getting paid and people are respecting him again. but there were some of us who always felt this way. i am sorry but i HATE reading about these 3121 parties. prince is going hollywood and it makes me sad. i am sorry but i don't think pam anderson goes to the 3121 parties and experiences the same sort of exiliration and love that a true prince fan would. i miss the times that prince did aftershows for us. what is happening? where is the prince that i knew a few years ago? i miss him? what about us, your devoted fans? we go to your shows when they are not publicized, we fly to minneapolis and stay in eden prairie. we went to see minority report with you in chanhassen. i miss prince. i miss knowing june was coming and that my year would have a great high at the celebration. i guess i just got spoiled. i hope you will come back to us cuz i miss you. and i go to your shows not to be seen and to schmooze and not because it's the "in" thing to do in LA but because I love the music and the feeling i get a prince show is unexplainable. i just want to feel that way again.

So true, so true. sad

I would love to be a fly on the wall at Prince's crib, so I could sneak in unnoticed and catch all the action while it was going down. bug giggle

Grrrrrl, you're hella finer than any random celebrity, cuz your inner and outer beauty is real, unlike most of their sculpted-by-the-knife faces and physiques.

I don't know why these reports make me so eager to pull my stomach out of my body through my rectum -- I need the pain to take my mind away from the blatant and sickening classism and elitism (not to mention the fawning and grade-school writing style).

I wish it was the real Vanessa Bartholomew (Kirstie) writing the reviews - or better yet, she could go to the 3121 "celebrities-only" house on her show "Fat Actress" and get creative with her cleavage, Prince and pounds and pounds of warm chocolate, turning to goo b/c of the body heat.

Anything would be better than this stupid "ain't I special I got to go?" crap - but then, where would the NPGMC be without division? It's all about us and them to the NPGMC.

But hey, who am I to think that we the fans are just as good as any celebrity?

****

Uh, ahem...so those thoughts have been bubbling and festering in my mind since the first of these silly diary entries appeared. Obviously. smile

Oh and KISS KISS KISS to Tackam, you effin' deSERVE to be there and you know it!! smile

That Prince is dead, baby. Prince is dead.

And not in that cool, 3-chains-of-gold way neither - cold-ass, ho-hum, twiddle your thumbs dead.

Sorry to have to break it to you so bluntly! But hey, this new Hollywood guy's got a couple songs that make you tap your foot, and word is he plays the best Prince cover band in the tri-county area.

Holly would if Holly could....

Yeah Prince playing to a small group of Minnesota die hards is soooo much more lively and exciting than Prince turning out hollywood's finest. Whatever. Prince was dead in most people's book when those glorious intimate MPLS jams were held. I was around for the 90's when it was jammin' every weekend at Paisley Park and , although I miss the weekly jams that were just for us in MPLS, I am happy that Prince is gettin' his thing done in California.

Besides there was still plenty of MPLS action last June and I had better seats than most at the tour and instant access at the Park. The NPGMC is good for that.

I love the way most of you berate the poor writer, but what if it was meant just to incite?

Isn't Prince king of comandeering his own brigade of what is said/not said about him?

I think that this is just a clever PR move and that Prince has something in store for his fans... plain and simple.

He's just using "Hollywood" to push it.

And as far as the grade school writing... I've seen much worse on these boards! wink

LOL! Spam? We get what, one, two, three, maybe four messages a month? Hardly what I would call spam considering all of the other real junk that is sent to nearly every e-mail account on a daily basis. Let's be realistic here.

Dude!

If you are taking the time to complain about 1-2 emails a month from NPGMC, you have got problems unlrelated to the NPG Music club, and need to seek help.

You aren't the only one, I have seen many people go nuts over a few extra emails, and its sad. I would help by getting you all connected to one another to form a support group, but one more email to you trying to help might push you over the edge where you would hurt someone.

So PLEASE, get help before someone gets hurt.

Thank you.

P.S.

I am already in therapy trying to learn how to deal better with people like you. So please do not accuse me of being a hypocrite.

actually, i have an e-mail account set aside for when i want to sign up for things online that i think may entail lots of e-mail. also, i think you can update your account information on NPGMC so that you can re-direct their 'spam' to another e-mail address. so if it bugs ya that much and you don't have a spam filter w/ your e-mail account, then just create a new e-mail address for free on yahoo or hotmail, then update your NPGMC account to have e-mails sent to the new address. problem solved! biggrin

You're right, the advance ticket incentive can work out QUITE nicely, resulting in some amazing seats. (It also can lead to terribly disappointing obstructed view seats, but that's another topic).

As far as last June in MPLS goes? I had a fanTAStic time on that trip, so I don't regret making it, but I do regret dropping any money on the aftershow Friday night. That was the final disillusionment, though - and it had to happen sometime. So maybe even that was a good call.

Everything is cyclical. While Prince will always be a genius, he won't always be the flavor of the month. If you think any of those great Hollywood A-listers are going to show up at 3121 the day Access Hollywood quits covering it, you haven't been paying attention.

It's a ride. Try to enjoy every part of it.

Prince sharing his music in an intimate setting with the people who love it most is beautiful. Prince sharing his music with random pretty/famous people is. . .fine. shrug

Fun!

Makes a girl wish she were a random celebrity rather than a mere fan so I could attend such a party. wink

Obviously. smile

Oh and KISS KISS KISS to Tackam, you effin' deSERVE to be there and you know it!! smile

You're sweet.

You know, if the purpose of the parties is to froof his ego, I'm a'ight with staying home. wink

I have to say, seeing him in gold chains and participating in hollywood fluffests makes me hope that we're seeing a change in phase that means he's heading away from the uberconservative crap of recent years, even if he has to be liberated from that by wallowing in money, fame, and "beauty" for a while. If that's what it takes. . . fluffests! woot! lol

And baby, you know I'm still the president of the Blueangel Asslickers Association. lick batting eyes

hug
