I thought your whole point was that for NPGMC to "work" (i.e., for it to be successful), he needs to play aftershows in such a way that more members will receive the "perk" of a free aftershow and therefore feel satisfied with the club (and/or more people will have reason to join the club).

Now you're saying he should play aftershows where there are no members because then people will have to pay and he will make more money?

I would actually think that Prince makes more money playing aftershows in NY and LA (despite the "free" admittees) because clubs in those cities are willing to pay him a larger appearance fee and/or ticket prices are much higher. There aren't many cities in the U.S. where Prince can sell out a club at $50 per person for a 1 a.m. aftershow... so I'd think it actually makes a lot of sense to play in NY and LA (where there is such a demand).

If your point is that he should play in places that are deprived of perks so that he can increase his fanbase (despite the fact that there is less demand in many of these places), that at least makes some sense... but be consistent with your arguments.

The point I am making has not changed. It's still the same as the position I stated in the post to start this thread.

My comment about the monetary loss to Prince from the NY and LA aftershows was in response to a comment from someone who said that it "made good business sense" for Prince to give aftershows in those cities. It's my view that the aftershows in NY and LA did not "make good business sense."

I'm only guessing, but I think there were probably more than just 300 free admissions at the House of Blues aftershow. If you start adding in the folks who got in free who didn't have NPGMC laminates and also didn't pay -- the celebs and HOB VIPs -- the number of freebies goes past 300, making his profit loss even bigger than $30,000.

It's true that he would not be able to charge $50 a person for an aftershow in smaller cities. However, I think the smaller cities have shown that people there are willing to pay a reasonable amount IF they are getting something for their money.

In addition, the number of people who show up and are willing to pay for aftershows in the smaller cities also depends on what night of the week the show is on. More people would turn out on a weekend night than in the middle of the week when they have to be at work the next day.
