Actually, he looks like he's saying "come here and say that" . "You don't frighten us, English pig dogs. Go and boil your bottoms, sons of a silly person."

The very idea that Prince still sounds like he does before he knew how to read music is what makes him such an innovator or a genius. Like me (if I'll toot my own horn for a second) - with writing, I did it for years before I started looking at any styles (I prefer to create writing styles, rather than follow other styles)
See, you can know how to read sheet music, and know how to perform your scales, and all that, and you can be a proficient musical technician, and even become good that way. However, what any artist has to have before they go about any of this is the talent inside and eventually the burning desire to not want to do anything else. Seeing this article makes me want to revisit the whole idea of going to school and work full time. I could invalidate myself, by saying, "I want to go back to work and concentrate on the life I thought I was supposed to have...", as if what I'm doing now is only a temporary thing, but the fact of the matter is that the life I have now is the life I was supposed to have. In fact, my life has been more special than many around me that I know because I didn't follow the traditional path. Catharsis in a few short paragraphs.

It would be a fun read to see Prince acknowledged as a drummer. He's a bit like Ringo Starr I think -- as a drummer, he has personality rather than virtuosity. I think people overlook that while there are more multiinstrumentalists than we think, it is very rare to find someone who has a distinct voice on each basic instrument and can infuse each track with his/her personality (rather than doing all the parts competently as some kind of technical feat).

I know it takes a lot of endurance just to keep up that kind of vibe and determination. I am MrVictor....

Prince's part of the picture looks more like an ad for a Chinese resturaunt and he's holding big ol' chop sticks.

I love the article, now I want to read the rest. When I read about the evils of drinking, I gave up reading.

Prince looks like a vampire, and the cymbal looks like a full moon with some fog in the background -- very strange pic!
Anyway, it's very cool that Blackwell is getting some respect -- the way he can play, he definitely deserves it! ...like an octopus on speed, fo' sho! edit: by the way, that's an awesome interview with Prince! I wish he'd talk more often about the craft of songwriting. I love this stuff!! [Edited 11/18/04 17:04pm]
