P.S. some guys over there mentioning the toons 'Black Sweat' and '12:01'...reckon this cut would go with those towards a good album. Never heard of these....where they offered before?

no, but he did these two songs a lot during the acoustic set of the musicology tour. nod

Can anyone tell me anything about these songs?

hmmm, what can i tell ya..."12:01" is a pretty by-the-numbers blues song, with sexy/silly lyrics...it's a pleasant enough song.

"black sweat" was played for the first time in chicago at the friday night performance (the night before he canceled the saturday show for throat problems)...it's got some pretty slick lyrics from what i remember - stuff about his hairdo and sweatin' out his suit and doing what he wants and whatnot...i'm sure someone has lyrics for it somewhere.

both are fun songs - nothing incredible, but nice enough to listen to, and good fun. nod

Totally love the music on both! But I totally hate what Prince is doing with his vocals on "Glass Cutter" -- stupid. disbelief

am i the only person who considers downloaded tracks to be "thumbnails" of recorded music, as opposed to hearing music on CD, vinyl, performed live, etc.?

hearing "united states of division" on the cinnamon girl single today was like hearing a new song altogether, after listening to the NPGMC download so many times.

You've convinced me to go buy CG!!! lol music As for the new tracks, dayum!! SJ Jam shows what a tite-azz band the NPG was by the end of the tour. headbang And Glass Cutter rocks (and funks)! I agree, I hope that song is a sign of things to come...musically AND lyrically: Cool to again hear lyrics that are a little more "earthy". cool wink

Good lord, what funky songs... Glass Cutter is just awesome.. Somehow reminds me of the stripped down funk of Batman, and the rawness of Dirty Mind... Hope this sees the light of day on a proper CD.

And - Glass Cutter sonds more risky and fresh than anything on Musicology (except ICPC)... After his commercial album, now Prince up to something unexpected again?

It's just like a good older Lenny Kravitz cut. Ofcourse Kravitz got it in the first place from Prince (and others). So... well... it's ok, but nothing to say hallelujah for...
When it's a sign of a whole raw and funky album it's ok.
I dunno, it's just a Prince jam. Or am i too negative at the moment?!

Mmmmm, thanks for posting this, Anx. Was a HUUUUUGE surprise last night!!! What a great way to start off the weekend! wink

GlassCutter's HOTT, and although it's (happily) much drrrrrtier than anything he's put out in a while, he does not say "tits." He says "It's about as hard as arabian math..."

Just bein' anal. Great fuckin' song, fantastic fuckin' geeetar solo!

I haven't been able to hear anything on npg for a while now. Anyone have any ideas as to why? Clicking on 'play' in either Glam Slam or the Reflection room results in nothing. Help please - I really want to hear this stuff!

Tits it is, Taureau! smile

Thanks for the lyric transcription - y'all got great ears!

Peronally, I sure don't hear any old Lenny Kravitz in there (we're talking about GlassCutter, right?) - and I've currently got Let Love Rule and Mama Said in heavy rotation in my car). What about it sounds like an old Lenny Kravitz song? Which song? Just curious.

I love the layered vocals - and I love it when Prince "raps" when he does it like he does it here - harmonically. POIFECT!!

Yeah that's what I was thinking. It's the same style of Prince rap as off a few tracks from Choc Invasion/Slaughter...but done a lot better - lyrically it doesn't cringe, and goes great with the music here. Actually I don't believe I've heard any artist 'rap' like this...are there other similar examples?

Yes that is Prince killin' the skins. That brotha is one hell of a drummer!!! And lawd have mercy those Organ solos are ridiculous. I know everyone is caught up on his funky guitar work, but we know he's capable of things like that in his sleep. The drumming and the Organ playing really caught my attention.headbang

No, don't think so. The jam is nice. Glass Cutter is no (real) album material IMO.
