okay, people...this is the moment ya'll have all been waitin for: my report on the other night's show and aftershow. unfortunately i didn't get paid today (fuckin guv'mint), so i won't be able to show you the pix i took till later on this week. anyhow, if you want the setlists of last night's shows, look here. i'm not the type to be just tellin folks "well, prince played this, that and the other thing, he came on at blah o'clock and ended at blah o'clock, ra ra ra ra..." i always tell folks the basic stuff and what i did and how i felt about it, so you can get a perspective on it as if you were there, too. 'sides, there's folks who have awready posted setlists. go look on one of them! so here's how the shit went down:


m'newest friend (and m'new baby daddy--no, not for real...it's an inside joke, ya'll) jimmy came to my house at about noon-ish and we headed out to paisley. there was a good-sized amount of people there: there was this tent set up in the little parking space by the soundstage/paisley party room doors, and there was a line that split up into two sections (left side was for will call passes, the other was the merchandise line). oh! my friend priana (i've known her since the 1st celebration) was workin the merchandise line, and i was all like "hey, woman!!" she couldn't talk for long cuz she was busy tendin to folks, but she gave me a quick hug. she's the shit.

me n'jimmy got our passes, and we went over to the merchandise side of the tent. they had lots n'lots of old stuff for sale (like posters, cds, the ona live boxed set) and clothes n'stuff for the current tour (which was grotesquely overpriced...lawd). jimmy bought like 6 posters and 3 t-shirts (the older stuff, that is), which he's gonna send to our friend camron, who will in turn sell the stuff on ebay. heh.

after that, we got outta there and there was a tour of paisley park goin on and since jimmy had never been at the park before, he wanted to go...so we went. there were a lot of people goin thru the tour, including children. that's one of the things that kinna weirded me out: all these folks bringin their kids! okay--the guard at the door would only let about 10-20 people in at a time to go through the park for the tour. me and jimmy were standin in the vestibule, and there was this group of little boys climbin on the big window ledges. their parents were somewhere in the line, and i don't think they were payin attention to their kids. can't have folks climbin all over someone else's shit...gawd. like, you wouldn't want prince to come over to your crib and climb on your china cabinet, wouldja? i see it sorta like that--i bet they did tell their kids (least they better have) not to touch stuff and what-not. but kids'll be kids, regardless...

anyway, there was about a 15-20 minute wait between tour groups, so we were sittin in the lobby at one point. i ran into my friend darin's friend, elisa, and had told her that i saw her on the news the other night (she got interviewed the day before when she was at the park). she was all like "really, i was on the news? yay!" the tour guide got our group and we were on our way through the park. i've been to the park before a couple times, so i'd seen all the rooms/studios we walked through before. the studio hasn't changed much since i was last inside, except they remodeled the hardwood floor in this little practice area.

i got a story to tell ya'll. it's one of my finest moments as a prince geeklette: we were all in studio c (i think it was studio c), and our tour group got in there. one of the engineers who was sittin behind the sound console all the sudden asked, "do any of you know what this is?" i hadn't been payin too much attention as i was walkin in the room cuz i'd been in there before and knew what's in there already--then, i looked over to my left. sittin on the corner of the console was this machine.

i looked at the machine for like 2 seconds before recognizing what it is...nobody in that room was able to answer the engineer's question...except for me. i go, "hey! it's the linn lm-1!!!!" the engineer said i was correct, so i paid my geeky homage to the linn with a wayne's world-esque "i'm not worthy! i'm not worthy!!" the whole group laughed at me.

anyway, we went through all the studios and through this narrow hallway which leads to the other side of the park where the soundstage and the loading dock (aka "the paisley party room") are. on the walls of the hallway are all these pix of ol' boy in chronological order, from 1978 to the present. parade-era fans/friends/freex/geex/fams/whatever, you'll love this bit of trivia: the tour guide told us that whenever prince walks through the hallway, he never looks at the pictures on the wall...but he always gives a high-five to the pic of christopher tracy. sweet, eh?

that was the end of the tour--the guides told us that we could stay indoors in the party room, but once we left the building we couldn't come back in. me and jimmy decided to stick around for a few more minutes. there was this security guard sittin on a stool and readin his copy of blender magazine, obviously bored outta his mind. well, there was this group of kids who were in the soundstage (they must've been from some daycare, cuz they were wearin matching t-shirts). the tour guide just told us that we could look in the soundstage but couldn't go in, and for good reason: they had the stage set up for that night's aftershow. jimmy saw the kids in the soundstage and figured it'd be okay if we could go in, so he asked the bored guard if we could go in. the guard was like, "the kids are there, so you may as well..." we went in, and there were these 3 cushy-assed reclining chairs over by the soundboard at the back of the soundstage. jimmy was all like, "hey...wanna go sit over there?" i was like "yeah", so i went over to one of the chairs and sat down. lawd...i wanted to take the chair home with me, it was so comfortable. we were sittin in the soundstage, havin a little conversation, and we were in there undetected for about 5 minutes and then this guy walks in like, "excuse me, but you guys can't be in here." turns out the guy was the stage manager or something, and i understood him not wantin folks in there unattended cuz there was like thousands of dollars worth of equipment in the soundstage. so, we had to go...but it was kinna cool bein in there with one other person in this big-assed soundstage.

It was great to see ya for a quick second. Jason saw your pants and guessed it was you before Ben said "hey, isn't that...." he was too chicken to go say hi of course...for some reasdon he went right up to violett though (had met her after the Thursday show) very uncharacterisic of him .

I'm jealous of you for seeing prince's studio. I've been to many of his friday night paisley parties, but I've never gotten the tour. DO you think he will still do this from time to time?? I hope so.

I was at the Friday show and it was the bomb. I was the guy in the fuzzy animal looking hat, did anyone see me jamming out? I was freakin' the whole time, and I had sSOO much fun.
