Promoters generally pass 85 percent to 90 percent of the ticket price

Prince might be making much more money from concerts then we think

http://www.azcentral.com/...07-ON.html

some interesting cut and paste from article read then link for full story

"
Perhaps the biggest force behind live rock's rising cost is the widespread consolidation of the companies that promote concerts, including industry giant Clear Channel Entertainment, that started in the late '90s. Big promoters have helped to boost prices by offering artists higher fees at their national networks of venues, compelling smaller competitors to pay more as well to book desirable acts. Promoters generally pass 85 percent to 90 percent of the ticket price to the artist and keep the rest, plus parking and other concessions. Ticket sellers such as Ticketmaster make their money from additional service fees.
"

"
But at the same time, broader concert attendance has been in a four-year slide: Though the biggest shows by the likes of Prince and Eric Clapton typically sell out, the average number of fans at U.S. rock concerts as a whole fell to 3,895 last year, down 8 percent from 2002, based on venues reporting to music trade magazine Billboard. Fans like Kyle Vanduzer say increasingly expensive seats will keep him away from some concerts this summer. The 24-year-old rock fan from Streator, Ill., says that with tickets for shows he attends reaching $75 apiece, he can afford only one or two a year. "I know a few people who go to three or four," he says. "That almost seems ridiculous."

Even though concert season is dead, Prince sells out gigs. Very odd. How did he all of a sudden become so popular? Weird.

that's what makes this whole thing so weird, Prince seems to have done a deal which is rather old fashioned in terms of what most performers do nowadays:

I had read on this forum that prince would probably take 1/3 of the gross

but the article i posted reveals the artist can take as much as 90%

which is incredible.

the Tour will gross more then 50mil in US alone

so he will get a big pay day this yr

He has been top concert draw since 1997. The Emancipation Tour was the one of the top grossing tours in 1997.

They claim that Madonna will be raking in a rather small sum of 100million dollars for her 50date tour. I don't know how she'll be able to live off of that
You CANNOT use the name of God, or religion, to justify acts of violence, to hurt, to hate, to discriminate- Madonna

Prince will probably WALK with a third of the gross -- meaning his personal take. I doubt the promoter is taking only 10% of the gross, and then paying the road costs, too? No way. If Prince is making 90% or whatever, then he's paying (or sharing in) from that the cost to keep the show on the road. He's personally making about $300,000 a night, my guess, depending on the venue... which is still alot of money and roughly in keeping with his "half-million a night" claim.

Prince could probably have that deal, if he didn't care how high the promoter set the ticket prices.

I don't understand how you think it's greed. He understands the market these days. He probably believes that he's not going to dominate the airwaves like he did before; or sell records like he used to. P's strongest asset has always been his live performances. Why not cash in on that? His tickets are not as expensive as many other performers...who, I might add are NOT veterans! [Examples: Justin Timberlake, Beyonce/Alicia/Missy/Tamia are a few]

concert season is dead ? it is the start of US summer - isn't that the START of the concert season ?

Everyone is starting tours up in the last month or two, from Shania Twain to Metallica...

I have long since wondered why ticket sales, in general, are so expensive at points. The one time I went to see Prince, I paid around $50 for my seat, and while it was in the upper reaches, it was still a pretty good seat. But to pay much more than that would really be pushing it.

Those times whe tickets are sold for over $100 really make me wonder. It's like the old scandal in the eighties, when the US government was paying $400 for an ashtray and $600 for a toilet seat. Sure the chance to be up close an personal are one thing, but what will it really do, except show people that you have financial clout. I don't live my life like that, and I don't understand why anyone else does.

um...have you seen his prices? have you ever attended his shows in the past? his one nite alone tour had prices topping off at $125, this show tops off at $75 in most cities. in the land of the conscious, that is a decrease in price.

outside of this tour, i can't remember when i paid $75 bucks for a prince ticket.

Speaking of Promoters. . . .does anyone know how to CONTACT the promoter??
The reason I am asking is because, I want to make sure I will have a descent spot at the show in August.
I asked the NPGMC and they told me that it is up to the promoter where members are seated within the special area. I just don't want to be 10 feet from the stage and stuck behind people who are 6'2".. . . .AGAIN!!!
If anyone has any ideas or suggestion. . PLEASE. . PLEASE leave me an org note.
Thanks
