Birmingham Review

I noticed no one posted anything about last night's show...real brief:

same set list as the last couple of nights, with the acoustic set consisting of a complete version of Sleep on the Couch (Prince commented that this was a new song).

when he commented on how he "wanted to go down south" and the audience yelled....he looked out and said, "I wanna go down south, to Birmingham!" Reminding us that we all had a dirty mind....

During I could Never take the place of your man (acoustic), Prince stopped the song to point out and pick on a white guy that was doing that "White man's dance" (think Carlton from the Fresh Prince of Bel Air), and Prince proceeded to mimic him. the guy got a kick out of it.

The only differnt thing i noticed from SC last week was that Prince came up from the bottom of the stage for The Beautiful Ones into the ring of pearls (which last week stayed stationary at the ceiling), as well as there was much more fog, giving a more dramatic presentation. At one point, prince was laying on the stage, and was so covered in the fog that you could barely see him. well done.

the sound was not as good in this arena as was in SC last week. But some venues are like that.

the Dancing Girls on stage were a bit interesting. One woman got on her hands a knees and mimiced some sexual positions much to the dismay of the woman next to me with her 10 year old daughter. come on folks....this is a family show, please keep it that way. there were also two very attractive girls on stage that just could not dance. they were trying to be wanna-be strippers, and it just wasn't happening. i got a kick out of how one of them was strutting all over the stage as if she owned the place. Please....no matter how many pairs of heals are on the stage, the guy wearing them runs the show!

there was an afterparty at Club Red that i skipped, FYI

All in all, it was a fun night....looking forward to Atlanta tonight.

I agree that the sound at BJCC wasn't great. At times it would take an old school fan to know what he was saying (and I am!) I skipped the aftershow too unlike the Altanta 2000 club show I went to that was out of this world - hatman! Overall this was not the best Prince show I've ever seen but totally worth the $80 I paid for my ticket. I was actually glad not to be on the floor this time so that I could see more of him moving all around the stage. It was an awesome experience sharing this with so many people. So many people! In another post someone commented on one of the "dancing" girls on stage acting like show owned the place. I admired her nerve, but no doubt she was a stripper. Most of the other girls just plain couldn't dance. The torrential rains on the way in sucked, but who can help that? And one of the friends who went with me commented that she thinks he looked a little sickly. I didn't notice that though. After the 2000 Atlanta Tabernacle show, everything pales by comparison.

I thought this show was great as well. He really improved the setlist since the LA Forum show, adding some great songs to the acoustic set. He even played the start of Jailhouse Rock (by that Elvis guy), but then stopped it pretty quickly and made a joke about playing "the King" down South.

I'll agree that the sound wasn't great. The in-the-round concept still sucks, especially if you are on the floor. It was probably a better show watching the feed on the video screen than it was watching the stage.

I was at this show too and really enjoyed it. It seems like the show was just over 2 hours long and the sound wasn't very good. I miss the theatre shows of past tours, but it's great to see him bring a big house down like that too.

The sound was the first thing I noticed..if you weren't old school, you missed a lot of the lyrics. I was totally blown away by how good Prince looks at 45. I felt like I was transported back 20 years.

Loved the middle set...It was like sitting in Prince's studio. Acoustic versions of "When U Were Mine", & "Sweet Thang" took me back to the day.

Loved, Loved, Loved "The One" and "The Question of U"!!!!

I've seen Prince everything he has came to Birmingham and this was the best one.
