Last night of the gala---Prince DJ'ed wearing gold and a thick gold necklace. He was much better than the house DJ! He sang and had us singing along to When Doves Cry. He was in good spirits and was playful with his most faithful...A great way to wrap things up!

Having lucid dreams of dead one's I also know the feeling of and it's nothing pleasent. Awakening drained and bordering on a anxiety attack. Not trying to sound mellow-dramatic but on night 1 you could feel there energry. It's a energy that started to overwhelm Prince and audience alike during both sets (some say he was "acting" like he was crying but i saw real tear's with my own eyes during set 1 & 2).

Talking about his dad and other personal info to us was very unexpected in set 1. Telling us more about him & his dad's relationship than what was already known I felt. Maybe Purple Rain was more autobiographical than admitted (if i remember right he said that was just a movie & even though there were some truth's it was greatly exaggerated). Sound's like his dad might have been jealous of a son that could play so good so young and maybe better than him. I'm just saying starting w/ I love my dad at the start but than said numerous experiences about there interaction's that definately hurt the Purple one. I loved it when he brought up his parents divorcing and NOW with his mom he could FINALLY play the Piano anytime HE'D WANT. Also it was as if him and his dad were having a conversation but there was just 1 person doing the talking. Even though they're emotional parts during 1st set, there was also more upbeat songs mixed into that setlist that lightend up mood and had people dancing (I can't think of anyone else in the last few dacades that could have people singing and swaying just from playing a piano SOLO w/ no band). But Motherless Child , man you could feel that in your heart the way it was played and sung, even stuff played recently at show's like Something in the Water, Do Me Baby, HCUDCMA, Beautiful Ones sounded best on that Purple gutted out Baby-Grand Piano that had only 1 pedal along with the way he was singing(soulful is a UNDERSTATEMENT). Even during the 2nd set hearing the start of Purple Rain I was thinkin come on can't we have a non-PR night, esp since I knew we weren't getting a long set so instead of that why not play something rare? I can't lie that 3mins long PR was way better than expected/better than any band verson. I tell you the microphone & mic treatment gave it a new life. I rather have had a different song still, wether a rare song,reloaded song,older song, cover, or a cut from set 1 played again like Baby, Dorothy, Paisley P,Dirty Mind, Free, Annastesia, etc. REGARDLESS to have been able to witness that in his house was such a privelidge! Intimate is a understatement.

Super curious how this will be percieved if taken on tour like he was going to in Europe. In Paisley they'll shut you up and shut you down, other venues might have idiotic drunks talkin up front to the always annoying (usually drunken) chicks screaming so high pitched it'd hurt a dog's ears. You'd think by now people would get a clue. Pet peeve of mine is people up front who'll yell to there friends over a show w/ total disregard for the people who are there to watch/listen.It's like you can leave the room or go in the back.

Set 2 didn't start out like it'd be super emotional. He didn't start talking/saying anything about his dad. He came out and went right into a dreamy mellow landscape version of The Unexpected (WOW) ,than he started playing something that had nothing to do w/ WOW. Not sure if it was just Improv while he talked about how he can feel everyone's eye's on him. Than whatever that 1m long riff was that trickled into a silent pause that went into what I felt that started the emotional ride, by doing a Amazing version of The Love We Make that made Prince tear up. 1 thing i was hoping for was a couple older songs for 2nd set. Quite a bit of early 90s-early2000's material. Swear the only reason he pulled a lot of them off is b/c of the mic/piano arrangement, Black Sweat proved that theory to me,same w/ KISS (Got sick of this track ages ago,but the Piano version_Gucci). Songs that really were powerful I felt SISIA, The LADDER (such a highlight), 1,000 X's & O's, Venus De Milo, Dear Mr. Man (insane), Starfish, Wannabe/Lover, question of you instr, Nothing Compare's,Call my Name, The Dance, A Case of You.......

Is it just me or was Free Urself not the greatest song to end on? I thought he really was going to come back out and do another couple songs. Everyone in the building was yelling Free Urself in Unison for awhile til lights came on. Glad I witnessed that historical night for a artist i travel where ever for in the States. I'm not rich, and it add's up, thats where i wish P would take in consideration he had people from around the globe-coast to coast for the w/kend. He coulda played a few songs after Larry, or tonight. It's not cheap getting a Plane ticket that close2 his shows plus more $$$ for hotel/car rental/ tix or addmission/gas/food/my time and nowadays going through TSA is a joke which takes the fun out of traveling.

Some of the reviews (Rolling Stone, Star Tribune) mentioned that it was very emotional, and that he teared up during Purple Rain....kind of surprising considering how often he has played that song. I could never get enough of that song. So, how was this version? I have heard him play a piano version during the 2002 celebration but this one , just from reading about it, sounds like it was a whole different level of emotional.

As far as travel expenses and accomodation goes, I ´m feeling you, been through so much stress and difficulties before just to get to see a show ( and went to the 2002 Celebration fully knowing that NPGMC messed up my online reservation and still made it somehow) ....but, honestly, I doubt that Prince is aware of all that. Should he be? I don´t know...he often thanked his fans during the celebration, and I think a performance like the one you mentioned above is the biggest form of appreciation or understanding he could possibly show.....still, it IS very difficult to make it to his irregular shows. Even if he took this concept on tour, even if he played the very same songs, I doubt that it would be as magical as that performance you described above.

I´d love to hear his piano versions of Paisley Park and The Ladder. He did play Paisley Park at the 2002 celebration with the band, and I loved it.

Man if someone did tape it I would love the 1st set , all the talking he did to the audience. was like a telepathic interview. Plus during set 1 he had reverb/effects on his voice that weren't there on any song in the 2nd set.

To answer your question about him crying during Purple Rain I swear it was b/c of the build up. He was wiping his face more before and after than during PR. Not sure why the one wipe during PR got so much attentioncompared to the others he was tryng to refraim from breaking down (in my eyes,I had VIPs for both sets and was close for both).

WOW was like a slow crawl reloaded version that had soul but The Love We Make started the emotion's i feel. So sparse and depressing/sad(in the best way). Prince bringing up he dreams about dead friends in set 1 might have affected him during TLWM (since that song about Susannah's brother od'ing off junk). He said "Put down the needle" 6 or 7 times each w/ a dramatical pause before saying "and the spoon". His face during that said 1,000 words.

Than Look at Me, Look at you - The Question of you (instr , it sounded like you could hear the pain or sadness leaking from his fingertips thru the Piano & it felt like lyric's or even going into The One would have cheapened the beauty) - 1,000 X & O's (old school version done so heartfelt made me tear up & i don't cry) - U're Gonna C Me (tried to lighten the mood by bringing up i can still feel you seeing me) but than next was Call My Name, (had him wiping his & aud member's watering eye's and it even gave me chills as i nodded my head..also it was def a extended vesion compared to other song's) - Purple Rain ( a short 3 1/2-4 min version that even had some new arrangement's that might have been improv'd by the way he felt).....

If that's not emotional enough after saying i might have picked the wrong songs for this set but than he goes into a a portion of The Dance - Te Amo Corazon - A million days all sounding like the Piano ate a handful of downer's chased w/ booze trying to numb a broken heart that can't seem to heal. Than if that's not enough he goes into Nothing Compares To You which strangely becomes from sad to a sing along (mainly because the audience started singing and P went along happily), than he dive's into the one song that sounded like a recent version's he's done during his short Piano set's - HCUDCMA - The Ladder (it sounded better than the documentary version your talking about, if it's the doc yr talking about that has him playing it on his piano shortly and cuts out to a diff scene if i recall right). The Ladder felt like it had it's own blinding aura.

Next he brought in I Wanna Be Your Lover sounding like the recent few times he did it on the keys and that became a sing along just like - Raspberry Beret (which he transitioned seamlessly after IWBYL). He was also having fun/joking around/making fun of the audience during the sing along than went right into a always classic i love - Starfish and Coffee - But than next he goes into what sounded like maybe 15-20 seconds of Liathach that went into a great rarely played Venis De Milo. Than here come's a amazing done & always fav of mine Somtimes It Snow's April, which made some tears drop from stage to audience. It was a minimal traditional vibed version til he started saying "I feel so bad" over and over w/ very non traditonal piano riff's to match repeatedly.

Scattered Note's played started to form a gut wrenching "Dear Mr. Man" that should have been longer. A highlight of the show for me. Haven't gotten to hear it live so it's one of my bucket list track's & done in a way that might never be replicated. That went into A Case of You than he walked off for few seconds and came back to do a old school Blues Honkey Tonk Boogie version of "Kiss" w/ some sing along's via aud (Def a long version for this show, a lot of the songs were shorter & Kiss went on for awhile). That's where he was joking about the show Duck Dynasty during the track. A interesting version for sure. Even more Interesting was Kiss went right into a track i never thought would be made/sound good on a Piano - Black Sweat. Very Cool version Was badass to make it work for this kinda show. Some words Prince exchanged w/ audience. Than the most UNEXPECTED LAST SONG THAT GAVE ME AND OTHERS A HEAD SCRATCH & Some people were pissed also (hard to imagine, but was a odd way to end a show. -FREE URSELF - In the vein of Boogie Woogie Honky Tonk Blues. Craziest thing is while there's a Fog Machine going and he goes threw the big door's he never comes back and everyone was still singing "Free Yrself, You got to Free yrself for like 3mins. than the light's went on.

My mind was blown for a 2nd time that night. You heard people say this was the best thing they witnessed & there were other's pissed feeling shortchanged, and sme even saying that the setlist wasen't what was promised and he didn't do this or that song. Was shocked at some of the negativity. Believe me people were on natural high's like myself. I said to people will probably get a 1 hour and anything after that is a bonus. I don't no if he realized the impact, actually c'mon he know's he killed it and had everyone hyptonized off the purple potion and they wanted more. He said during 1st set he does this at home alone a lot & it's nice to have the best musical admirer's watching him.

Everyone has song's they didn't get to hear but you saw Prince in his Home raw, naked, untouched, and in rare form, nevermind getting to see him so close uninterrupted by security.

Now waiting around for 1hr 45m by the candle lit Piano stage w/ 3 video cam's in room and word was Prince was doing a set impromptu set after PHO + Larry & GSC The light's were off, Dudley D was playing P unreleased demo's, rmx's, lp cuts. If you wanted to see a few room's in Paisley you could spend 40$ and Jester (great guy to give the tour) brought you around to a few recording studio's (one guy was mixing down the 2nd set in a studio), rehersal space's , got to see platinum records along wall's that had a sick mural of everyone he worked w/ on one side and his fav musician's on other side. Larry was done but still upstair's after dancing,jumping around, and making that bass talk. He don't groove like someone who 70. He had 8 track's, old 7"s for you to sign and buy. Oh yea he had beanie's that said GSC on front and Live at Paisley Park on the back. A cool memento. There was security around the stage door's, flashing around, swear i saw a Fro looking down from a secret door kinda up by the scaffolding looking down. They even said the last shuttle is about to stop running and people weren't leaving and Dudely kept spinning and you could feel a energy building. Security was more on there toes. Than in a instant u could feel the plug pulled (or i could, i swear 1m before the light's went on i felt energy shift, wish i knew what happened). I figured he might just come out and do a few song's/something short to send us off w/. Just odd they let people miss a shuttle an hang out and everyone was sitting , standing around the stage. Prince.Org sweatshirt guy, Funkenberry, Kirk, member's of Pho, Corey Parker kept coming back and forth ( Maceo Parker's nephew was playing drum's for those who didn't no),and other's i noticed. So it wasen't just a bunch of fan's standing around it. It was so odd, you could feel something was supposed to go down and it was like a balloon getting popped right before lights came on. Still a great couple days for sure.

I have Health Issue's so getting to the spontaneous show's aren't easy. He's the musician he can do what he want's. I understand how he feel's about ticket scalping and i'm w/ him, but the ticket system he did for this wasen't bad. Not easy, but b/c everyone from everywhere trying to get ticket's for Paisley which isn't the biggest venue

Oh yea nothing like Paisley Park w/ a infectious uptempo solo piano groove w/ him having everyone sing Paisley in Paisley, one point he stood up w/ a huge grin that he had everyone in the palm of his hands making everyone clap while singing (in the vein of Rock n Roll Love Affair that night) w/ the audience singing it in Paisley. No surprise Raspberry Beret i remember being b4 that and before that was Venis De Milo and a amazing version of Condition of the Heart. Also Ballad of Dorothy was sick, but man him playing Baby and Dirty Mind had everyone bugging dancing around. Unchain My Heart cover by ray charles was insane too.

Man I want that 1st set!! I'm curious what his rehersal's for this sounded like & what other songs he had up his sleeve that he didn't play b/c he was scrolling a bunch on his IPAD.

I wish P would release a lot DVD's or Set's. He's been taping show's since my 1st P show. Even in 2000 during Hit n Run conert w/ Najee he filmed every show. He was always taping himself and watching himself. He know's what to do. That's why some say he's genuine and other's say he's a great actor that love's money and hanging out w/ the "Beauitful One's". Hey he is a Gemini after all. He cashed in big time over the w/kend, he playing Dubai, playing on the Russian's both that has some shield u cna't see or something so no one can see what's going on. And he played the White House. The guy is a boss , he do everything his way. Amazing musician , one of the last greats that been doing this for decade's and kept progressing. Thank you so much for the detailed additional info, very much appreciated. This all sounds like you´ve witnessed one of the most special shows in Prince´s career. Makes me wonder what prompted this very emotional, very personal and high-quality performance. Prince is always a great performer when he´s on stage but this piano concert, especially the first one , sounds like a very strong and meaningful artistic statement.

I´m glad that Rolling Stone and Jon Bream/Star Tribune were there to write about it.

To answer your question about him crying during Purple Rain I swear it was b/c of the build up. He was wiping his face more before and after than during PR. Not sure why the one wipe during PR got so much attentioncompared to the others he was tryng to refraim from breaking down (in my eyes,I had VIPs for both sets and was close for both).

WOW was like a slow crawl reloaded version that had soul but The Love We Make started the emotion's i feel. So sparse and depressing/sad(in the best way). Prince bringing up he dreams about dead friends in set 1 might have affected him during TLWM (since that song about Susannah's brother od'ing off junk). He said "Put down the needle" 6 or 7 times each w/ a dramatical pause before saying "and the spoon". His face during that said 1,000 words.

Than Look at Me, Look at you - The Question of you (instr , it sounded like you could hear the pain or sadness leaking from his fingertips thru the Piano & it felt like lyric's or even going into The One would have cheapened the beauty) - 1,000 X & O's (old school version done so heartfelt made me tear up & i don't cry) - U're Gonna C Me (tried to lighten the mood by bringing up i can still feel you seeing me) but than next was Call My Name, (had him wiping his & aud member's watering eye's and it even gave me chills as i nodded my head..also it was def a extended vesion compared to other song's) - Purple Rain ( a short 3 1/2-4 min version that even had some new arrangement's that might have been improv'd by the way he felt).....

If that's not emotional enough after saying i might have picked the wrong songs for this set but than he goes into a a portion of The Dance - Te Amo Corazon - A million days all sounding like the Piano ate a handful of downer's chased w/ booze trying to numb a broken heart that can't seem to heal. Than if that's not enough he goes into Nothing Compares To You which strangely becomes from sad to a sing along (mainly because the audience started singing and P went along happily), than he dive's into the one song that sounded like a recent version's he's done during his short Piano set's - HCUDCMA - The Ladder (it sounded better than the documentary version your talking about, if it's the doc yr talking about that has him playing it on his piano shortly and cuts out to a diff scene if i recall right). The Ladder felt like it had it's own blinding aura.

Next he brought in I Wanna Be Your Lover sounding like the recent few times he did it on the keys and that became a sing along just like - Raspberry Beret (which he transitioned seamlessly after IWBYL). He was also having fun/joking around/making fun of the audience during the sing along than went right into a always classic i love - Starfish and Coffee - But than next he goes into what sounded like maybe 15-20 seconds of Liathach that went into a great rarely played Venis De Milo. Than here come's a amazing done & always fav of mine Somtimes It Snow's April, which made some tears drop from stage to audience. It was a minimal traditional vibed version til he started saying "I feel so bad" over and over w/ very non traditonal piano riff's to match repeatedly.

Scattered Note's played started to form a gut wrenching "Dear Mr. Man" that should have been longer. A highlight of the show for me. Haven't gotten to hear it live so it's one of my bucket list track's & done in a way that might never be replicated. That went into A Case of You than he walked off for few seconds and came back to do a old school Blues Honkey Tonk Boogie version of "Kiss" w/ some sing along's via aud (Def a long version for this show, a lot of the songs were shorter & Kiss went on for awhile). That's where he was joking about the show Duck Dynasty during the track. A interesting version for sure. Even more Interesting was Kiss went right into a track i never thought would be made/sound good on a Piano - Black Sweat. Very Cool version Was badass to make it work for this kinda show. Some words Prince exchanged w/ audience. Than the most UNEXPECTED LAST SONG THAT GAVE ME AND OTHERS A HEAD SCRATCH & Some people were pissed also (hard to imagine, but was a odd way to end a show. -FREE URSELF - In the vein of Boogie Woogie Honky Tonk Blues. Craziest thing is while there's a Fog Machine going and he goes threw the big door's he never comes back and everyone was still singing "Free Yrself, You got to Free yrself for like 3mins. than the light's went on.

My mind was blown for a 2nd time that night. You heard people say this was the best thing they witnessed & there were other's pissed feeling shortchanged, and sme even saying that the setlist wasen't what was promised and he didn't do this or that song. Was shocked at some of the negativity. Believe me people were on natural high's like myself. I said to people will probably get a 1 hour and anything after that is a bonus. I don't no if he realized the impact, actually c'mon he know's he killed it and had everyone hyptonized off the purple potion and they wanted more. He said during 1st set he does this at home alone a lot & it's nice to have the best musical admirer's watching him.

Everyone has song's they didn't get to hear but you saw Prince in his Home raw, naked, untouched, and in rare form, nevermind getting to see him so close uninterrupted by security.

Now waiting around for 1hr 45m by the candle lit Piano stage w/ 3 video cam's in room and word was Prince was doing a set impromptu set after PHO + Larry & GSC The light's were off, Dudley D was playing P unreleased demo's, rmx's, lp cuts. If you wanted to see a few room's in Paisley you could spend 40$ and Jester (great guy to give the tour) brought you around to a few recording studio's (one guy was mixing down the 2nd set in a studio), rehersal space's , got to see platinum records along wall's that had a sick mural of everyone he worked w/ on one side and his fav musician's on other side. Larry was done but still upstair's after dancing,jumping around, and making that bass talk. He don't groove like someone who 70. He had 8 track's, old 7"s for you to sign and buy. Oh yea he had beanie's that said GSC on front and Live at Paisley Park on the back. A cool memento. There was security around the stage door's, flashing around, swear i saw a Fro looking down from a secret door kinda up by the scaffolding looking down. They even said the last shuttle is about to stop running and people weren't leaving and Dudely kept spinning and you could feel a energy building. Security was more on there toes. Than in a instant u could feel the plug pulled (or i could, i swear 1m before the light's went on i felt energy shift, wish i knew what happened). I figured he might just come out and do a few song's/something short to send us off w/. Just odd they let people miss a shuttle an hang out and everyone was sitting , standing around the stage. Prince.Org sweatshirt guy, Funkenberry, Kirk, member's of Pho, Corey Parker kept coming back and forth ( Maceo Parker's nephew was playing drum's for those who didn't no),and other's i noticed. So it wasen't just a bunch of fan's standing around it. It was so odd, you could feel something was supposed to go down and it was like a balloon getting popped right before lights came on. Still a great couple days for sure.

I have Health Issue's so getting to the spontaneous show's aren't easy. He's the musician he can do what he want's. I understand how he feel's about ticket scalping and i'm w/ him, but the ticket system he did for this wasen't bad. Not easy, but b/c everyone from everywhere trying to get ticket's for Paisley which isn't the biggest venue

Oh yea nothing like Paisley Park w/ a infectious uptempo solo piano groove w/ him having everyone sing Paisley in Paisley, one point he stood up w/ a huge grin that he had everyone in the palm of his hands making everyone clap while singing (in the vein of Rock n Roll Love Affair that night) w/ the audience singing it in Paisley. No surprise Raspberry Beret i remember being b4 that and before that was Venis De Milo and a amazing version of Condition of the Heart. Also Ballad of Dorothy was sick, but man him playing Baby and Dirty Mind had everyone bugging dancing around. Unchain My Heart cover by ray charles was insane too.

Man I want that 1st set!! I'm curious what his rehersal's for this sounded like & what other songs he had up his sleeve that he didn't play b/c he was scrolling a bunch on his IPAD.

I wish P would release a lot DVD's or Set's. He's been taping show's since my 1st P show. Even in 2000 during Hit n Run conert w/ Najee he filmed every show. He was always taping himself and watching himself. He know's what to do. That's why some say he's genuine and other's say he's a great actor that love's money and hanging out w/ the "Beauitful One's". Hey he is a Gemini after all. He cashed in big time over the w/kend, he playing Dubai, playing on the Russian's both that has some shield u cna't see or something so no one can see what's going on. And he played the White House. The guy is a boss , he do everything his way. Amazing musician , one of the last greats that been doing this for decade's and kept progressing. about after the show.

I love that I have lucid dreams, even though they can be unsettling...

Very intriguing that he mentioned lucid dreams - always been interested in them, read about them, etc. and to hear Prince mention them was cool.

If they were taped (they were, there was somebody on the ceiling walkway with a camera on a tripod), they were taped at the direction of Prince, and the decision of a release will be made by Prince and Prince alone. There were no other cameras that I saw -- a release of this show would not be a single vantage point film - that would not be good. I believe this was recorded for the purpose of Prince to make improvements and other changes for when this show goes on the road.

He does not release video discs often, let alone of very recent stuff.
