Free parking??? Oh snap

Maybe this will get some more people in the door. I am coming up from Dallas for one last time. I hope there is good music and people dance regardless of who is playing.

Why do you think they have "Free Parking" in quotation marks? Seems odd...does it really mean something else?

Probably means people can drive a short way down the street and park for free ANYWAY!

i saw blu print at the mn state fair last summer and they were AWESOME. totally worth it to go this weekend in my opinion!!

OK. It is getting cheaper. I paid $40 the two times I went including parking, just easier to park there. But now it is free parking and $20 if in before 10:00 .... so half the price.... not too bad.

Just got home from PPAD. I arrived around 10:30 and parked in the Paisley lot (for free ). The band was already playing in the soundstage. They were decent, musically I thought the guitar player stood out the most, but that's just my opinion. Around 11:00 or so, they took a short break. There was an announcement that the party would move into the small (NPG Music Club/L4OA) room. So we all went over there and they were just playing music from some music service like you get from your cable TV. Then the DJ came over and started setting his stuff up...but before he could get it set-up, the band was ready to go back up on stage. So we all went back over to the sound stage area and watched a second set of 6-8 songs or so. When they were done, most headed over to the small room and the DJ was doing his thing.

I have been to several of these events now the past couple months and I think attendance is dropping at each one. I would say there were certainly less than 100 people tonight. I hope it continues. The music has been good, the Paisley staff is always great, the atmosphere is great, and there is always a chance Prince will take the stage (although no sign of him tonight...likely across the pond already). My opinion is that if they would drop these to $10 a night, and put the band in the small room so it's a more intimate setting, that this could continue. Right now it feels like 60% of the people there are just there hoping Prince will come out. And they won't keep paying $30 to see a local band play in a huge soundstage with 50-100 people there. They could likely see a similar local band at a bar/club around town for $10 cover with more people and better vibe.

Don't get me wrong, I would love to see Prince come out as well, but I'm just afraid that if he doestn' come out more often, attendance will drop too low and interest will be lost in this project.

Just my opinion.

I'd guess 99% of the peeps going are hoping to see Prince perform at some point..(me included) ;p

And Yeah it's too bad there's less and less peeps there, I think it might just end soon... Specially that the next two parties are while Prince's is out of town, I fear there will be even less traffiic...

i don't agree completely with the above. i admit i do love seeing prince and there's quite a cool vibe out there when he pops in and rocks us.

but on the other hand last night's band, Blueprint, was superb! they played covers and medleys that were a lot of fun to dance to.

i think the fading attendance may be due to Paisley Park's relative inaccesibility out in the suburbs, so maybe add a shuttle from downtown? also the crowd might not have $40-30 to drop on a show, admission may be too much for the younger crowd especially.

if Paisley Park had the insurance to cover greater liability and also obtained a liquor license to serve wine, that might bring additional revenue as well. maybe the liquor license thing could be done provisionally.

i think it's marvelous that local talent has a place to showcase their skillz. perhaps if well-known band names were there once a month like Pharrell Williams, Mint Condition, etc., and their presence were to be publicized farther in advance more folks would make the trip.

people aren't always able to fly in from out of town on only one week's notice, so if some of the shows were publicized three weeks in advance, they would have a chance to make plans early to go.

i know of at least one person who has come in from out of town on a few occasions, and would have benefited from knowing who would be playing what more than one week in advance.

the whole idea is excellent concept. personally, i'm not sure i'd blame lack of attendance on prince not showing. perhaps the current economic recession is also a big reason why. with food doubling in prices along with most stuff these days folks might be having trouble finding funds for the luxuries like a concert these days.

anyway, thank you again Paisley Park and all those who worked so hard to show us a good time out there. you guys rock!!!

The attendance keeps going lower and lower. The parking lot at Paisley Park wasn't even half full. I have a feeling the next 2 weekends are going to be worse. I agree that most people going are there to see Prince, me included. Guess I lucked out when I got to see the one full show he did. Pretty sure they won't be trying to get a liquor license.

wow, dislike my ideas much? here's where we differ, apparently: you criticize the fact that prince and 3EYE don't play, i'm just grateful for the chance to enjoy the atmosphere at Paisley park, and glad that local bands have a showcase for their talents.

the weekend events are and always have been advertised as dance parties rather than as shows

People go to Paisley to see Prince play, or to chance the possibility of that happening. If you've never been to Paisley Park, it might be worth it once, just to say you've been. If you've been before and were expecting a Prince concert and were let down, then you just go away disappointed. I feel a little bad for the bands on the next two Saturdays, as all the diehards are aware P and 3rd Eye are gigging in the UK, which probably keeps anyone "in the know" speculating a Prince concert, away.

if you live in the area it is cool to spend your saturday nights there....
