I went to the event. 3rd Eye Girl (minus Prince) introduced a video clip from their Montreux show. There was also a concert by a group I hadn't heard of before. I think their name was Universe Soul. I enjoyed the party, but it was my first time at the Park, so I don't have a basis for comparison.

thanks again for dancing with me! that was a lot of fun. congratulations on your first trip to PP, i hope you have many happy returns.

I arrived at Paisley at a little after 10 and paid 10 dollars to park in the lot. After I paid another 30 bucks to enter I walked over to the side room adjacent to the soundstage and listened to music for the next 3 hours that was broken for a short 20 minutes of footage from the montreaux show. I was under the impression that they would show the whole concert but unfortunately it was the exact same block of 3 to 4 songs they showed at the dance party in January. At about 1:30 they opened the door to the soundstage and we entered in to see the stage with a sparse collection of instruments so I knew immediately that we would get no appearance from prince. We listened to the unknown band and they were pretty good playing all cover songs with 4 different vocals who took turns. They played for abou 40 minutes and did a single song encore.

After they were finished the advertised dj girl played for about 20 minutes and then they announced that they were closing down. Kind of an anti climatic ending IMO.

Overall definitely not worth the 3 hour drive, 30 dollar cover charge, and 3 dollar bottles of water.

This will probably be the last time I roll the dice on one of these events.

I think it's hilarious that he charges such a high amount for so little here in the states, whereas in the UK he gives 3 hour shows for like $10 or something absurd. Okay, equally hilarious and appalling. Because, you know, everyone in America is as rich as he and his friends are.

Wow, sounds like a bit of a bust. Hopefully a trip to PP made up for the lack of concert footage? Seems a bit rum not showing the whole concert, that's how I read it.

I agree the £10 shows were amazing value, but you missing out queuing in the cold for 4 hours + not knowing if you were actually going to get in, or if the price was going to stay at £10. SBE people were told £70, I didn't go because of that and it went down to £10! I can't really hate on Prince for that.

All the other shows were £35-£70, and he definitely didn't play for 3 hours at every one. I queued for 12 hours+ for Ronnie Scotts and it was just over an hour for the second show. He and the band were amazing, unfortunately some of the shiz in the queue was miserable in the extreme. Cheaper tickets and hit and run has it's ups and downs. More than happy if I get to see the man as good as he's been!

I think it's forgotten readily here that Prince is a premium act with a massive heritage, name me one major act of his longevity, back catalogue or stature that doesn't charge excessively for tickets? Most of them are also with major labels with all the machinary and cash that comes with that.

I hear what you're saying, unkleg...he certainly can command the higher prices, no doubt. I just think a $30 cover charge and $10 parking for an unknown, unannounced band, 20 minutes of a DJ and a few scenes from Montreux is taking the piss, in the extreme. (Did I use that expression correctly?)

Glad I skipped this one! I have a pretty good sixth sense about these things most of the time. Went out three times in 2013 and each time saw a great show! Last night I just felt like it was not gonna happen.... Plus I work all weekend long. Not that it stopped me for the pajama party! iworked that Saturday on one hour of sleep and that was very worth it!!!

The beauty of Paisley Park is you never know what you're going to get. It's the beauty of Prince. Yes sometimes it's madening other times otherworldly. The fact we get to chill at this Icons house alone is pretty trippy.

My rule for Paisley: Don't ever expect anything and never leave before the house lights come up.

Unfortunaly last night was not one of those fantastic nights but it could have been legendary. The band was there, in fact they stopped to talk to someone 10 feet from my left. Overall the Paisly staff is just so wonderful and warm. He's really hired some gracious people.

The small studio was kind of lame. A video in the background, an uninspiring DJ and an audience that wasn't dressed to impress. The room was hot although now overally crowded and the disco lights that used to twirl years ago are no longer here making this feel not very clubby, sexy or cool in any kind of fashion. I was about to break my own rule and leave thinking why am I here.

Then they opened the doors to the main stage (1am). A 6 foot 6 muscler body gaurd opened the door for people and said welcomed as we entered into a new planet. This room has got to be 15x the size of the smaller room. The room blasted fresh cool air, hi-rise seating sections with purple couches were sprinkled through out the back and sides with candles burning. The sound system sounded exceptional and the spinning was fresh. The first song was something like: so you think you're better than Prince. The back walls had these huge spinning graphics (these are 3 stories tall walls) and the stage was prestine. It was like going from a garage party in Wisconsin to Rock Legends mansion in Hollywood in about 60 steps. The 150 people or so didn't make a dent in the room. As people mingled and got closer to the stage, I though to myself, if Prince plays, this is going to be legendary!!

Unfortunatly a new band played. They weren't that good in my opionion and the sound was too loud.

Condidering the house we werer in, that could have been Prince, hell it could have been Beyonce with the type of connections he has.

For those of you complaing about your $30. Take it in stride. Tonight could have been the best $30 you ever spent...it's the risk you take and the beauty of Prince.

You mean those were the lyrics???? Who is singing it??? Did the DJ Lenka Paris play Macarena??? because I saw that on Twitter... Also, what food was served???? I wonder if the low turnout is why Prince didn't perform. I also see Lenka Paris puts her Prince mixes here:

It was a different DJ who played Macarena. Lenka Paris was the DJ in the big room, but most of the night we were dancing in the smaller room.

I didn't get there until 11pm, so at least I didn't have to pay $10 for parking. The first DJ definitely had a thing for early 90's music. Some Disney movie was playing on the screens most of the time. The footage from Montreux that they showed sucked. Started out in the NPG room, ended up in the soundstage. At least the DJ was better over there. The live band wasn't too bad, but it was too loud. Doesn't sound like Plectrum Electrum will be released anytime soon, if I took what Hannah said to be accurate. She kind of reiterated what Prince said on Arsenio Hall...about finding the right songs to fit together and not rushing it. I thought this album was done a year ago. So they did a short tour in London to promote an album that doesn't exist??? Ony Prince!

thanks for the reviews! Which songs did they cover? Which Disney movie was showing? hehehe. i also wonder what kind of food was served. I figure if they have another one of these i'll try to go, even if prince is elsewhere, the place is probably permeated with perrpleness and its been on my list a ridiculously long time.

Prince needs to just stop with all of this and get the album out first.

According to what Prince said on the Arsenio Hall show, maybe more songs are needed before it is ready. If so, hopefully Prince wrote enough songs during the tour & they are going to record them now.

He was talking about HIS album. Songs that go with his new"Masterpiece" "The Breakdown!

They covered "My Funny Valentine, "It's a Man's World," a Sly and the Family Stone song that I don't remember, and a few other things. I didn't recognize the opening number, so it might have been an original (although someone could correct me on that). I wondered if it might be a band that Prince is considering as an opening act for his next tour. They were very dynamic on stage, but the loud volume made it hard to appreciate the music.

The Disney movie was Finding Nemo. They actually played it twice. The first time was amusing but it got old the second time around. There were also some previews for Peter Pan.

The food included chocolate chip cookies and I think some nachos and a few other snack-type choices. I didn't order anything. I was really hoping for pancakes. lol

If I lived in Minneapolis, I would definitely go to the next one. The vibe was great and people were having a lot of fun on the dance floor. I'm not going to fly in from Dallas again unless it's confirmed that he will play next time, but I don't regret this trip.
