I love Prince but….. ...... I'm just sick and tired of this guy taking the piss!
Concerts that people can't get to because you get little notice of the time and location! Queing for hours in the worst weather the country has had in many a year! Poor security! Que jumping yobs! Que jumping celebs! No fixed pricing! No presale tickets! Guess where I'm playing tonight, tomorrow or next friggin Saturday attitude!
This guy has you all dangeling on a string and he's playing with you like puppets!
I hate to imagine whats gonna happen in Manchester.... a bunch of Londoners traveling North only for them to find the whole of the Man City and Man Utd squads have jumped the que, the Salford Bump Squad are jumping the que (and them f*ckers dont just carry loose change!) and all those stood with £10 in their hands are being turned away cos the price of entry has just gone up to £200
Yes I'm bitter.... Bitter cos I don't get a chance of a ticket like the local bum who lives round the corner who last heard Purple Rain in 1984 and thought it was "kinda OK".
But I'm mostly bitter cos after all the love we show this guy... he can't just throw a little bit back by being a little bit more considerate.
I'm a bigger fan of Prince than the last man and the next man...have been for 32years... but if he can treat his fans like shit...and put them in a serious chance of getting a black eye, pneumonia, death by drowing or something far worse then as far as seeing him play live.... and this is based on my decision and not his off the cuff - hit and run tactics... I won't be there! We can Funk!!!!

Not too good and not too bad.

Who took the piss out of you when you were younger? Because you are just projecting that upset onto Prince.

I think it's safe to assume the £10 price has firmly gone. It would have been gone by the Shepherds Bush show had people not kicked off...hence they kept the price of KOKO a total secret until the doors opened and you walked up to a lady with a cash box. I think, had Ronnie Scott been a full show instead of 2 (Incidently as long as the first KOKO gig) then that too would have been £70.
I think Manchester will be £70 too but I get the impression pricing isn't Princrs domain, he's told where to be, goes through his set and somebody else uncreases the notes [Edited 2/18/14 5:33am] P-p-e-n-g-u-i-n......the P is silent

I'm with you PurpleHippy.
I've been a huge fan for the same amount of time, and have seen every tour that I possibly could as well as having tickets for cancelled gigis in '87 and '90.
The wife and I live 100 miles from London now, and my missus is wheelchair bound at times with Multiple Sclerosis, so the chances of us travelling down and queing for a day are zilch.
Gutted!
We managed to catch one of the 21 nights shows because it was ticketed properly and we could gain disabled access. These hit 'n' run gigs are not ideal if you are struggling with mobility.
Just out of interest, I would like to hear from any orgers with mobility issues that have tried to gain access to one of these mad scrambles
Little? Yeah, right. It might be little but it's loud

Somebody with mobility issues got into KOKO. I think something was sorted with the venue and she went I to the first show via a different door at the same times as us and had a good place up on the balcony. Not sure how it was arranged but was good to see P-p-e-n-g-u-i-n......the P is silent

i am with most of the comments on the thread but it was clearly announced it was a HIT AND RUN tour!! If you really want to get in it is possible but you have to queue.....After that you forget all the mess and only want to c the next show...

It was (I think) sorted out via Twitter directly with Kiran. The lady in question tweeted her about her challenges and Kiran tweeted back that she would see what could be done and they would talk in private via email. Might be wrong as just following what it said on Kiran's Twitter account. 'I loved him then, I love him now and will love him eternally. He's with our son now.' Mayte 21st April 2016 = the saddest quote I have ever read! RIP Prince and thanks for everything.

Thats what I thought but, as Kiran seemed to ignore everything (obviously she cant repsond to every question but some might have been helpful) I wasnt sure whether the venue had helped out rather than her P-p-e-n-g-u-i-n......the P is silent

I'm in two minds on all this really. I accept the concept of "Hit n Run" but don't like it because I am simply not in a position to benefit from it due to life and responsibilities. If I had been able to then I would probably evangelise but as I have not been part of this (making it only the 2nd time I have missed him in the UK since 1986) then I feel peeved and jealous of those who are their.
This "hit n run" approach is a PR device. It has secured Prince more press/media coverage then he could have sensibly hoped. From a PR point of view it is genius - ALTHOUGH to maximise they (Kobalt/Prince) need to get the album out in the next week or so and I do not see that happening.
In 2002 we had the wonderful experience of the NPGMC and advance/best seating plus access to soundchecks and aftershows and I so wish it was like that again. 'I loved him then, I love him now and will love him eternally. He's with our son now.' Mayte 21st April 2016 = the saddest quote I have ever read! RIP Prince and thanks for everything.

I dont think Kiran sorted it out to be honest For a start she would need to follow the other person to do that and I cant see that happenning. Too busy selling Prince to the entertainment / media bods

Think the tour will probably finish next week with a date at Brixton Academy. This tour was designed to create a buzz and think that has been achieved. I'd love it to be ticketed but predict otherwise. Maybe we will then get some proper tour dates announced along with album release date.

If I am honest I cannot see him coming back again for a while once he has left That would mean approx 4,000 people (if that) have had great fun and seen him THATS ALL !!

Hmm the number might even be smaller as a lot of people went to more than one gig - just look at unique for an example! 'I loved him then, I love him now and will love him eternally. He's with our son now.' Mayte 21st April 2016 = the saddest quote I have ever read! RIP Prince and thanks for everything.

You really aren't forced to queue. Prince is currently offering those who have the time and energy to queue an opportunity to see him in a small venue. If you don't like the terms, this tour isnt for you. He's trying (and perhaps succeeding) at creating a buzz to stop becoming a heritage act. Its pretty clever marketing and to my eyes, it seems to be working.
Regarding queue security, thats a venue's responsibility, not Prince's. No artist send their own security to police etiquette in gig queues.
If you really don't like this tour style, wait for the next o2 residency for which you can happily plan and buy your 21 tickets in advance. Just stop expecting it all to suit you.

I've been quite disappointed in the amount of complaints from orgers about this series of gigs. Aside from those with mobility issues, we have all had the chance to get down there and get to one of these if we really wanted to. I drove 3 1/2 hours to get to shepards bush and there were people come from all around the county who went to that and the Koko ones. Sure the EB ones were so short notice and so cheap they were only available to those nearby, same with Kings place but the others weren't beyond the realms of possibility. How many of us have dreamed of seeing him in such small venues for the past thirty years? These appearances are the stuff of dreams and we should be happy we've at least had a chance to attend them, yes with some downsides attached but it's Prince, in 2000 and under venues in great form. Seems there are two choices, book days off get babysitters and go queue and have a memory to cherish forever or come on here and type out your frustrations. -----------------------------------------

People love to complain and voice their upsets. It's the running theme of their life. Prince just happens to be in their line of fire because he's in town. You think they'll stop complaining about things in their life once Prince leaves?

Clever marketing?? Who is he selling too? The people he is selling to are unable to see him . I am sorry to disappoint everyone on here but life goes on outside Prince.org and Prince has many more fans outside of this site. This site is in a minorty I am sorry to tell you

Marketing isnt just about sales. Its about brand image and awareness. And outside of this forum (containing a few who seem to think they've been shortchanged by a series of gigs not precisely to their liking) Prince's image has had a bit of a kick start again... great reviews, lots of media attention etc without resorting to arena identikit shows. People who thought Prince had fallen off the end of the earth since 2007 have suddenly realised that he's still kicking and still great.
The moaning here is astonishing.

you cant please everyone i am afraid....yes its been a bit of a mess...i travelled down from glasgow to london for the sbe gig and didnt get in...because my train down was nearly two hours late getting there..spend another day in london hoping for a gig that didnt happen..but thats life..i didnt get lucky...but i will tell you that these gigs are causing immense interest and excitement in the uk that i havent seen around prince in a long long time...the chance to see him in a small venue is surely worth all the grief...i am actually looking forward to queuing for hours to see him...how mad is that ?....
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
It was not talking about record sales. I was talking about selling himself as an artist. So far I would say probably 2,500 different people have seen him perform. So, thats not really reaching out and creating a new audience is it These gigs might be causing a media storm but what is the end result? If nobody can get to see him and make a judgment then how is that good marketing ?

yes it's a strange dilemma for prince, fams and general population (which i would love to see embrace him more).
on one hand he wanted create a buzz and allow the hardcore fans to see him in a small venue (positive), but it alienates those who didn't get to see him (negative).
it doesn't really create any real new fans (negative).
he gets lots of media mentions (positive), but he doesn't do any tv interviews or performances (yet) (negative IMO).
maybe he'll do a bigger venue like Brixton or even O2 later this month. (big positive)
but if he wants this new album to sell in big numbers - something more cross media needs to happen: interviews on radio and tv, a live performance on a number of tv shows, media ads, a bigger concert, GLASTONBURY with tv).
time will tell if a bigger plan will unveil. Apparently, i was told by someone who works for Kobalt that they are on a 48hr (if memory serves me?) turnaround for the release of the album, which suggests to me that there is no real plan as Prince will drop it when the time feels right for him.

Haven't you heard of 'early adopters'? The 'new' fans attracted to these gigs spread the world. The old timers here are only a part of the market 3rd Eye Girl is aimed at. Pop up gigs stir far more interest in an artist than conventional gigs. Twitter has been used for years at the South by South West Festival to spread the word about bands in town playing Promotional gigs. Now Prince is using this method to get noticed. He also gets more of the money going directly to him than by promotion of conventional gigs - cheaper venue hire , Cheaper ticketing ....

good point. i suppose he must look to alternative avenues for revenue in these lean times, but i still think if he wanted to, he could make a bigger splash than he currently does. but i supose that means losing a bit of control or artist freedom (or money, which i think is the deal breaker).
