Yes. Obviously it was. But really, how can he expect all 3900 attendees to shell out 150 € 3 nights in a row and spend 3 days in Montreux with the last day being a monday?? It would have made much more sense to do those shows fr/sat/sun, so it would have been a weekend (if you were lucky enough to be able to attend by car or train).
And of course, the most logical thing would have been to forget the damn sequence and play the 3rdeye girl on sunday and not play two similar shows on saturday and sunday and a different one on monday.
I was content with seeing only two shows. I was glad to leave on sunday, as I was fed up with the stupid queing and some of the stupid people I met in Montreux. Also I didn't want to spend another day in Montreux and money on a hotel.
But still I'm not satisfied and really dissapointed that I didn't see him play guitar, other than a couple of minutes at the Larry Graham show. I've spent about 400 € in tickkets for 2 days and I'm not quite satisfied. Something is wrong with that picture. If he had played the third show on the second night, all would be well. Like this, I feel cheated and I'm missing out.
As for the aftershow... well, it said "NPG afterparty starring Graham Central Station"... so it kinda was obvious that Larry Graham was the star and we would see little of Prince, if at all. I knew that going into and I almost didn't buy a ticket and was contemplating going to bed, as usually I wouldn't pay 80 € to see Larry Graham. But then again, since I was staying in Montreux anway I felt it would be stupid to not go and you never know. Well, the concert was good, I liked it and I saw as little of Prince as I had expected. So no disappointment there.

I'm just back in London from Montreux. Saw all three shows and they were all amazing. My favs were the 1st and 3rd shows. He was on form and for me gets better and better!! I was sat upstairs for all three and it was great seeing the crowd enjoy themselves so much. Prince looked so happy too. I'm hot and I don't care who knows it...I got a job to do.

Holy shit!! Boots from all 3 nights are already out?! And in decent sound quality no less? That's some serious expeditiousness. Bravo! "That's when stars collide. When there's space for what u want, and ur heart is open wide."

I really do know what I witnessed, an awful 2nd show, but I'm not losing my time on this again.
3rd show was AMAZING!! | |

3rd show was AMAZING!! What made such a difference between the 2nd and 3rd show? The musicians in 3rd eye girl have been identified by many as the weakest link in the NPG line up. Is is just that they are comfortable playing rock but not funk and soul? Or was the 3rd and final show more of Prince solo concert, while the first two shows were more of a collective effort with Prince keeping more in the background letting others take solos and sing lead? The wooh is on the one!

You really can't see a difference between the 2 shows?

You really can't see a difference between the 2 shows? Of course I can see a difference in style and approach, but perhaps not a huge difference in quality. Why do you think one was "awful" and the other "amazing"? [Edited 7/17/13 11:34am] The wooh is on the one!

The second show was rubbish?? Uh, I don't think so... other than the late start and the shortness of the show (and the annoying good nights every 15 mins) I liked it more than the first one. Better setlist.

I'm looking forward to hearing MC's Montreux review on the Peach & Black podcast. Anyone know when we can expect it?

NIGHT 3 - MY COMPLAINT
I'm a Prince fan. I only found out about the 3 concerts in Montreux last saturday but miraculously managed to find a ticket for the monday evening show , July 15th. You can't imagine my joy then.
To be able to be there I had to have mine and a colleagues work shifts be rearranged, I traveled over 6 hours by train one way, then waited until 5:50 am the following morning, up alone, to travel back and go to work after another over 6 hours train ride.
I love good music, and I love Prince as an artist very very much. He always gives great life performances, assuring great musicians on stage and offers a combination of old new and not so well known tunes, so there's always something for every taste. So I was speechless when the gig he offered ended up being a full on hard rock gig. I personally don't like hard rock. I can enjoy his guitar solos when part of a variety of tunes but at that night even his songs I would normally love were rearranged in a hard rock version and this at a Jazz festival. I feel like I've waisted 2 days and 400 chf. It should have been made clear that it would have been a hard rock gig to allow people to be aware of this since it really has never occurred before. I have heard from other guests that the previous 2 nights were soulful and funky, exactly what he usually offers and I would have loved. I assume he had to allow his 3 new band members to leash out their hard rock preference, and it feels like there's been an assumption that people at the concert have bought tickets for all 3 nights, which somebody may have been fortunate enough to do (but not all can afford that), so he could offer something extravagant for the closing act. Nowadays things are touch for many of us financially, to invest 400 chf for me means to work an entire week just for that. And for many that was the ONLY gig. I had waited to finally see his concert again after 13 years (i have lived in Asia and Australia when he was only touring in US and EU, then when I moved back to EU he went to Australia to perform…and now finally closer!!! ). Most people around me seemed o enjoy though. Am I the only one who got really disappointed for night 3 at Montreuc?
A very upset Prince fan named Sabina
