WTF is this nonsense? The second show started an hour late, was shorter, and that was disappointing. The content of the show was tight and great, and the vibe in the crowd (at least up against the stage) was fantastic - fun, much less aggressive than night one, happy people. Have to agree with purpleloft here, Prince fans too often sound like a bunch of spoiled brats living in the 80s-90s. The man is 56 and I just got to see him two almost completely different set lists, two nights in a row and had a damned blast. And to the person who said his voice is going: Oh, PLEASE.

I am not a sycophant. If these shows had been bad, I'd be upset for having flown 5,000 miles for them. Instead, I'm having a blast and thrilled to be a part of it. The horns section alone has been worth it. Can't WAIT for tonight.

Wow it takes so little to please u. These shows are crap for the price u paid and most of all if u compare these to musicianship in 2009. Oh well but some people can listen to horn-filled take me with u, raspberry beret and 1999 for years and will always be pleased...

Oh, and i was there both nights...and after yesterday's show most people i talked to were literally pissed off.

Must admit , after past shows and i have seen many, the first 2 shows were dissapointing, they were good and setlists were good. But it seems Prince has lost that edge he's always had, i put it down to the band.Let's hope tonights is better.

Back in the hotel after the second show, actually third to be correct. The horn section was given less time tonight, less solo's...but what a party it was! Prince launched the second show with a combo of songs (see prince vault for details) that made people dancing from the first notes...The NPG horn section makes the songs sound amazing, full bodied funk that sounds better than ever. Man these guys are tight and they got the moves too. i could care less wether Prince plays guitar or any instrument for that matter, they have all the instruments they need and the level of playing is high. i truly don't understand the whiners that infest this blog with nothing but complaints. If he would do the same set every night they complain, if it's different they complain because he doesn't play a certain song, if he does medley's,...complaints again, differents arrangements more whining, his voice is not as strong...blah blah blah. You have the chance to see one of the greatest performers alive doing HIS stuff. Have some fucking dignitiy and respect what the man is still doing in his fifties. I flew al the way from China to see him at work and i am super gratefull i am still able to see him perform. My first concert was in 1982, Sign of the Times tour in Anwerp and i have been following him ever since. So, thank you Prince for giving me these shows, these moments of greateness, for being able to see a true genius at work, allowing me to be a part of it. 2 completely different setlists in 2 days, who on earth is putting in the energy to do that ? I waited for more than one hour for Larry Graham to finish his routine show, waiting for Prince to show up, and when he did, it was all worth it, 15 minutes of great funk, playing keyboards and guitar backed up with his super powerfull new NPG horns section, so again i am gratefull and i feel blessed that i can still see my idol at work...now to sleep, need time to recover these old bones and get ready for show number 4 and maybe hopefully number 5,...

Right on ! ...The NPG horns section trying to blow the curves out of their instruments during the intro of "1999" blew me out of my socks, never sounded so powerfull and funky ! (btw, the guy playing the trombone at the aftershow (Roy Agee i believe) went beserk on his instrument during "i want to take you higher", i was afraid he wouldn't live to see another day. Luckily he was fine partying with us all during the second official gig)

Hmm... I don't know, I saw the first two shows and I'm kinda annoyed that he waited until the third show to take out his guitar. Also that yesterday's show was around 15 mins shorter than the first one and the third one. I kinda feel cheated (I did enjoy the second show more though than the first, despite it being shorter). Does he really expect people to shell out 3 times 180 sfr to get the full picture? It would have been much better had he done tonight's show as the second show and not played two similar shows back to back.

So any word about an aftershow tonight?

I saw all three shows and I liked the 3rd best. He totally wrapped the house and the guitar work was great. I have never heard that much guitar on a Prince concert and I have seen 20 now starting back in 1992 including show aftershows.

These three Montreux concerts were the first time I saw 3rd eye girl. Being a little bit disappointed by them during the first two shows, they completly made it up today. I love John Blackwell but I think he is not into Rock as these girls are, so therefore: Bravo!!

For me, these three nights were heaven, because he has done these for the "skilled" fans:
1. Choosing old stuff he didnt play often until today. Arrange so many songs completly new.... He has done such a good job with OF4S, Something in the water, The Max(!!), Lets go crazy, SISIA..... Amazing!!!

2. Seeing him with a big band was great. He arranged them as well but he also allows influences. He was a band leader like James Brown was! Perfect! (Although I have to admit, that if the last show hadnt happened, his guitar would have been missed. A shame for those who only saw the first two)

3. He surrounds himself with young musicians. This is making his music fresh. Maybe not perfect in a technical way, but really FRESH! And I have been to too many concerts with Larry G., Maceo, Candy & Co.... Its just fun to see him change directions....

4. He is 55 now. I have seen James Brown at that age... We are truly blessed to have him here with us... He does a lot of things we can complain about for good reason (why doesnt he have THIS power on new studio stuff? why doesnt he releases DVDs in order allow people witnessing his concerts?) but all in all he himself said it all in the last sentence of today's last show: "THIS HOUSE IS OURS NOW! PEACE!"

Well done Mr. Prince

Hahaha... You my man must be a masochist: You paid that much money just to see a man perform who disappoints you over and over again? That's funny!

The first night was legendary, the second was ok at best for Prince diehards (although I bet 90% of the crowd had a blast), and the third one was out of this world!

Now you run off and browse through those Prince forums to find the next gig Prince plays and buy those tickets... just so can complain a bit more afterwards.... while I enjoy my purple high in my Montreux hotel room, enjoying the beautiful scenery. smile

It was just the regular lyrics, more or less:

"It's time 2 send Ur company home and turn off Ur cell phone

Baby, can't U c, eye just want 2 get U satisfied (satisfied)"

Maybe you are right. Thanks for the info. But being in the front we had the strong impression that he was singing this to certain fans in the front who were holding their cameras almost right "in his face."

I wonder if those people have no sense for the beauty of moments. Do they also make love with their cellphones in their hands??

Besides they impair everybody`s views behind them. It`s selfish and let´s be honest the quality of those "films" are poor. Why not wait for a free DVD download?- as there are many.

This has already been said, so apologies for the reptition, but on reflection, the shows were clearly meant to be seen in sequence, building from one mood to another and ending in a blowout. I would have regretted missing the first, less so the second, and last night was incredible. All three together was a full package showing off almost everything he does (and yes there were weak points and moments). But it was a damned good package. We saw Prince as bandleader, on percussion, guitar and keyboards. He even played cowbell on night two. NOT something I expected eek

Last night was such a different vibe and so cool: When We're Dancing Close and Slow and SISIA? Plus rock, funk and horns? The show I've been waiting on for a long time. Thanks, Prince!
