We must not forget there was plenty of cowbell during Bambi and Cause and Effect tonight.

Prince was having fun tonight, ripping the guitar to shreads. Making fun of those who took pictures etc.

KXB--Sott only in part-not anywhere close to being a full version.. (Jackmitz's got the go to set list) Nice meeting you Jackmitz!

The extended versions of SAIMH, I Like it there, and Cause and Effect where awesome!

I highly recommend seeing this tour.

And he was wearing 2 different blacks Genesia! They were close but not the same.

Also, I am told to tell you that Prince had salt and pepper chest hair.(Woman! Geesh!)

I knew it! Was wondering why his chest hair looked thinner in some photos. This is so important, not. LOL

...every night another symphony...

The general public doesn't know about 3rdeyegirl, so to help ticket sales that have to say Prince. I guess Vancouver had trouble with sales. Seattle seems to be selling more than Vancouver did.

2nd show was somewhat similar to the first, with some songs moved around. I was front and center, so I couldn't keep a setlist on my phone. But there were two encores....let's work>u got the look was the first, and a LONG sampler set was the 2nd. Straight up, this show melted my face. Review tomorrow, dinner and sleep now.

Did they do wristbands in Seattle? Or, was the early access to the bar a replacement for that?

Hannah's husband was handing out wristbands, but the venue treated all of the early birds like gold. AND they had a special line for people seeing both shows, which allowed me to grab a front row center spot right in front of P's guitar pedals.

How early did you arrive to get toward the front of the line? I'll be at the early show in Denver and am trying to figure out what time to arrive.

I think the early access was specific to the venue and I'm not sure if this will be the case in other cities. The showbox staff were on it and the number system for the green room (the bar) was very smooth like they had done this before. The Seattle sunshine will be in full effect so standing in line outside will not be fun. I went to the first show and got into the green room at 4pm. I entered the show with group #2 and was in the very front right! The green room opened up for the 2nd show right after we all cleared out for the 1st show. If you are going today get there early!

Prince Rocks Seattle on His US Tour Opener

http://www.prefixmag.com/...ner/73468/

At the mere thought of seeing Prince live, what expectations would you have? You might expect him to be aloof and elusive, as suggested by his recent crusade against illicit videos and photos, and his stringent no photo policy. Or maybe you’d think the spotlight would be on Prince and his catalogue of hit songs, as denoted by his projected character and explicitly labeled on the venue’s marquee. The reality? Take all of these expectations and throw them out the door (except perhaps the elusive part).

Last night at the Showbox at the Market, Prince and his backing band, 3rd Eye Girl, played their first two US shows back to back, and the only word that came to mind throughout the show was “WOW.” Not only did the show start promptly on time, but the majority of the show displayed an energetic Prince who was eager to push the spotlight not just on himself, but on his backing band and the audience itself. Prince kicked off his second show of the night with “Let’s Go Crazy” and “Endorphinmachine,” before addressing the crowd and taking a jab at some of the newer pop stars. “Ready for some lip syncing? Everyone else is doing it,” he said before launching into “Screwdriver,” with the lyrics projected on stage’s screen.

After the explosive wave of rock ‘n’ roll jams concluding with “She’s Always in My Hair,” the blinding strobes suddenly went off and the mood shifted dramatically. The lights went off, and a melodic, instrumental version of “Liathach” was played as a seeming break in the set; most of us assumed Prince had left the stage until it was later revealed that he was performing the song on a keyboard in the back, unlit corner of the stage. This was more or less how the rest of the night played out: a few rock heavy songs full of electric guitar shredding, funk band jamming, and bright lights beaming, interjected with slower ballads performed by Prince in almost total darkness. There was particular rhythm or flow to the night’s set, which included more songs such as “Plectrum Electrum,” “FixUrLifeUp,” “Cause and Effect,” and “2 Young 2 Dare;” the night’s agenda was at the complete discretion of Prince.

Despite plenty of rock star poses and striking guitar solos, Prince was generous with the spotlight. Lots of attention was given to 3rd Eye Girl, even introducing them individually during his opening song and identifying himself as a part of the band. The all-female backing band consisted of Donna Grantis on guitar, Ida Nielson on bass, and Hannah Ford on drums; the trio definitely left their mark with Grantis’ guitar shredding duels with Prince making for impressive displays of musicianship between songs. Said Prince towards the end of the show, “for a few months now, we’ve been doing this in Minneapolis, just jamming like a garage band. We are 3rd Eye Girl. My name is Prince.”

Towards the end of the solid hour-long set, another performer was brought on stage: a guy named Josh who played the cowbell. “Will Ferrell was his teacher,” Prince joked. As Prince began saying his goodbyes (I counted at least 7 throughout the night), puzzlement filled the air. How could the show be over without “Purple Rain,” “1999,” or any other iconic Prince songs?

Of course, Prince had encores, two to be exact. And while he didn’t keep us waiting to get the show started, he took his sweet time between encores. The first encore was “Let’s Work” and “U Got the Look,” made highly interactive by Prince and Mr. Cowbell, who pulled four lucky front row girls up on stage to dance. After another drawn out round of goodbyes and long wait, encore number two was what we had all been waiting for: a DJ sampler set of (some) of Prince’s greatest hits including “When the Doves Cry,” “Nasty Girl,” “Pop Life,” “I Would Die for You,” and “Housequake.” Towards the middle of this set, Prince quipped, “Got too many hits; we gonna be here all night!” Interestingly, Prince remained elusive during this last encore, DJing little snippets of his hits (none played in their entirety) in the shadowed corner of the stage, letting Third Eye Girl dance it up in the spotlight. The last set was much like the rest of the night: a tease that left you drooling and hoping for more.

Prince plays another show in Seattle tonight, followed by select West coast dates through May 13.

Thought I'd take a few minutes to share my thoughts about last night's shows...

As I mentioned earlier, the venue took great care of the people who showed up hours early, and offered us a chance to drink and eat in their "green room" bar. The menu, per Prince's request, was all vegetarian. As a vegan, this made my day. While there, we were able to hear soundcheck. Once in the venue, I made my way to the front, which got packed rather quickly.

The show started promptly at 8pm, and the band tore into Sign from behind the curtain. After Sign, the curtain was opened, and Lets Go Crazy started. Never one of my favorites, it really took on new life as a lumbering blues-rocker. Ida's jam into Frankenstein was quite good. Endorphin Machine was next, and I freaked. It was really well played, though I missed the spoken "hold up, wait a minute" bridge. She's Always in my Hair followed a great Screwdriver, and it was a highlight. I was trying to recall if I'd heard it live since the Act 2 tour. Such a stellar version. P's guitar playing went from balls-out rock to subtle fills in a blink of an eye. After Guitar, he band kicked into Plectrum Electrum, which was SMOKIN'. Fixurlifeup followed, before one of the highlights...a 10 plus minute I Like it There. The playing on this song was mind-blowing, and the arrangement, complete with a lovely breakdown, was great. When We're Dancing Close and Slow was next, and that was a huge treat. A screaming Bambi, followed by a good 2Y2D brought us to the real highlight of the night, Cause and Effect. Now, I should admit that I'm a HUGE fan of this song, and I do not get the hate that the org-grumps dish out. The lyrics are honest, thoughtful, and just great. And the playing and arrangement on the recorded version sizzle. That being said, it's a KILLER live song. During the 2nd show, I got a nod and smile from Prince, as I was the only person singing along. Seriously, I can only hope that Cause and Effect makes it's way further into the live repertoire. A guitar-heavy encore of Let's Go, Crimson and Clover, and Dreamer closed the show. I should mention that P told a story about his dad taking him to see Woodstock as a kid, which was referenced again during the opening to Dreamer. He was in a GREAT mood for the duration of show # 1.

The venue took special care of the people with ticket to both shows, and offered us first entry back into the venue. I ended up pressed against the stage, right in front of P's guitar pedals (which got a little intimidating whenever he would crouch down to fiddle with the knobs). I did chat with a stunning Seattle woman who was next to me in front of Prince...sadly, I was far too dazed to be good company, but she was delightful. The set was somewhat similar, with some songs moved around. I will say that P's solos were far more ferocious during the late show. The Encore kicked off with a weird version of Let's Work. NO synth!! Prince was playing the synth lines on his new Vox (which is a gorgeous guitar). U Got the Look was next, and it was fun. The band came back out for a sampler-set 2nd encore. Ida, Hannah, and Donna all danced around while P dj'ed. A great ending to a great night. As for the band....Ida and Hannah sounded GREAT. Hannah's energy is infectious. I'm not a fan of Donna's playing, really. She's too much style, not enough substance. But they were clicking, for sure.

Shows 3 and 4 tonight!!! Praying for a Joy in Repetition and Dolphin.

So, I'm kind of confused regarding the Green Room system. I've only got tickets for the late show.

What time will we be able to get into the Green Room and get in the number pool for early entrance?

I overheard a security guard telling someone that as soon as the first show left the Green Room, they were opening it up for the second show. That was about 7:00-7:30ish. Parking is a nightmare so I suggest getting there around 4ish to check in with the showbox to confirm when they will open the green room for second show.

Just wondering if "late-show-only" started linging up for Green Room early for the early show let out. Or if you just jump out of line and go in.
