Got my tickets for the late show Thursday. Hopefully I'll get off of work on time. Sitting at table 105. Looks like some decent seats. Don't think there's a bad seat in the place.

Got two tix to the 8:00 PM Thursday jam.. now can't get through again... probably OK. That set me back over $300!! Was thinking of getting one for Friday but damn.... you gotta be rich to be a Prince fan!! Oh well... At least i got something!!!

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – If you want to catch an intimate and informal concert with Prince at the Dakota this week, it’s going to cost you more than 200 balloons. Closer to $200, actually.

According to reports, Prince is scheduled to perform soundchecks for an upcoming tour at the Dakota Jazz Club in downtown Minneapolis on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday evening. There are two rehearsals scheduled for each night.

Each concert is listed on the club’s website for ticket sales, under the names “Soundcheck,” “Jam” and “Surprise.” According to reports, Prince is performing these rehearsals at the Dakota because Paisley Park was already booked for the band Fun.

Tickets for the concerts range from $70 for the Wednesday night show to upwards of $200 on Friday.

The Dakota says that no cell phones will be allowed inside the club during these rehearsals.

One of us has to sit at a table acorss the room, however. Ah well. He'll make new friends.

Got two tickets to the 11:00PM show tomorrow night.

I realize the description of the event is sketchy, but it's worth the risk.

Had 2 Tix ready 2 confirm 4 Friday's late show, but after checking airfares, hotel rates, past curfew issues in Minneapolis AND how late he likes to start his gigs, eye began 2 think it may not b worth over $2,000. Sure wish I was a local at times like these.... Eye'll leave these 2 tix 4 somebody local!

I had my finger on the trigger four separate times, but I just couldn't do it. It's only a 4 1/2-hour drive, for me - but I am super busy at work this week and am taking vacation two weeks from now.

Its evident the 8 pm shows will be rehearsals, etc etc but the 11 pm shows will be concerts/aftershows like

Boom! I got tickets for Thursday at 8PM as well. I just couldn't quite justify spending $250 on a "surprise." If you want people to spend more, being vague doesn't help.

Hoping that I don't regret not spending extra and going Friday. Frankly, I am not sure what would make it $100 more worthy?

Prince to "soundcheck" three nights at the Dakota

With his own place apparently already booked, Prince has lined up three nights of “soundcheck” rehearsals at the Dakota Jazz Club & Restaurant this Wednesday through Friday night. The news broke this morning via the fan site Dr. Funkenberry and was confirmed on the Dakota's ticketing site, which lists prices ranging from $70 on Wednesday on up to $200-$250 for Friday’s show. The shows have been in discussion for about a month but were only just confirmed late last night, said Dakota owner Lowell Pickett, who said of Prince, "He just wants to play."

Per the Dakota's site, tickets are now listed to go on sale at noon today. Each of the nights will include two sets and be broken down differently this way:

WEDNESDAY (8 & 11 p.m., $70): "Jam" with drummer auditions, improvisational music and DJ Rashinda spinning unreleased tracks. Said Pickett, "Obviously, he's not planning to play as much that night."

THURSDAY (8 & 11 p.m., $100-$150): "Soundcheck" with an "after-party vibe."

FRIDAY (8 & 11 p.m. $200-$250): "Surprise," for which the tables and chairs will be removed from in front of the stage -- the first time the Dakota has ever done this. Pickett said it will make room for about 40 more people on top of the venue's usual 300 or so capacity.

Prince has frequently hung out at the Dakota for dinner and shows. He was even there as recently as last month's Tower of Power gig. However, he has never actually gotten on stage there despite numerous hints of it, including the Esperanza Spalding show in 2009 when an amp was even set up for him. More recently, there was also talk of him conducting a late-night jam there after Blind Boys of Alabama's performance last month.

Interestingly, Pickett said Prince also has the venue booked for rental on Sunday and Monday, but as of now there are no plans for any more shows. As Pickett has learned, though, the New Power Generation runs on hastily changed plans.

Word is that His Royalness is playing these shows at the intimate Minneapolis jazz joint instead of his palatial Paisley Park in Chanhassen because fun. -- the band behind the mega-hit “We Are Young” -- is already booked to rehearse there this week ahead of its tour kick-off next Wednesday at Roy Wilkins Auditorium. Dr. Funkenberry and other fan sites have been speculating for weeks what Prince has planned for 2013, and these rehearsals seem to confirm he is planning a more ambitious concert schedule than his rather quiet 2012.

I am thrilled for you guys that can go. It'd be really cool to hear him play unreleased or new stuff in an intimate venue. Have fun.

no. i want to experience the real cold weather (snow in november??? i'm totally in!) and the not so hot summers (a DJ that works in a local station there says that the temperature over 85 degrees is hot...um no...try living in the desert where it gets up to 100 degrees in the summer...now that's HOT).

also since i'm a supporting member of that local station and well i live in texas so i don't really get to experience the perks of getting tickets to some local shows before they go on sale to the general public, etc.

there's also a college in st. paul that i've had my eye on for a while now (mcnally smith college of music) where i hope to get in and get my degree in music production.
