I keep trying to tell myself that I have no regrets. I got to see two concerts, but gee, I don't think I'm convincing myself very well.

Me too - I was still on a high from the Sat concert when I got home on in the wee hours - then on Sunday I read the aftershow reviews - then hardly slept a wink as I was so upset and angry with myself for not buying a Brisbane Referdex, not finding a service to ask for directions, not having a GPS........all of those things.

So came to work yesterday with hardly any sleep - got so depressed over it - (had a cry when I got home) - then woke up again in the wee hours this morning still sulking over it.

I cannot believe I let this slip by - I was so close but not brave enough to try and find the venue -

Wish I had tried harder.

That audio of "Mutiny" doesn't come close to doing it justice. The gig was certainly "legendary" to those that were there to experience it. I went to both Brisbane aftershows. The second one was 10 times better than the first. The looks on the faces of the NPG as they left the stage as well as on the face of the fans as we filed out told the story.....we knew we'd experienced something really special. Even Prince's body language said the same. He looked liked he'd just won a grand final or something (squeezing his fists in front of him with a huge smile on his face). The energy of the crowd could not have been higher or more enthusiastic. DJ Rashida, who's been to who knows how many aftershows, labelled the show as "historic". Perhaps it was as legendary as people are making out. It was certainly the highlight so far of my 30 yr following Prince. I honestly can't imagine a better show from Prince or anyone else.

Totally agree - Haven't seen Pailsey Park on any setlist for a very long time. Be good to know if it was a snippet or full song (which would have been amazing)? Anyone?

Full song! every verse, extended ending with crowd participation.

Just drumbeat (only kick drum I think), Andy McKee on acoustic guitar, may have been a tiny bit of keys, can't remember, but Prince sang the whole song in a very jazzy tone and the crowd sang every line with him. I've never heard it live, and it was startlingly good.

gollygirl that does suck! But just know we've all been there done that. My MOST RECENT was the Troubadour in LA. I was SOOO mad at myself for missing it. And every detail I read cut like a knife. I think the only temporary/false cure is to see another Prince show because after I hit 2 small venue shows at the House of Blues in LA a few weeks later I let it go but that's only because I started getting down about not getting in the 3RD show at HOB that night! Which I tried but ran out of cash. The next day at work I was on a high from those first 2 shows but had to scour the org for every little detail of the 3rd and feel those pangs of regret again! I hit 8 shows in his 21 nights in LA and still feel like I missed out on all the other nights and the Troubadour and 3rd HOB show! Insanity is what it is.

That's what being a Prince fan is. It's NEVER enough. You will NEVER get to see every amazing show he does. We are in this together. I feel your pain. I've felt it literally. I hope that's some consolation. I know it's not, but just know, you're not alone and I feel your pain.

I know, it is so embarressing, I am just not getting over it. Still not sleeping, still full of regret - and so mad at myself. I just hope a recording surfaces one day to take the sting out abit. I swear having pins in my eyes would hurt less? I cannot believe how depressed I am over not going, I have allowed it to overtake (take the shine off) seeing two great concerts already...(both Brizzy shows) but still I feel sick everytime I think of Eatons Hills ! I keep telling myself to be grateful I got to see 2 great concerts - as many have not even had the chance to see one. Initially I only brought one concert ticket then stretched my resources for the seond show - so was lucky to get that - but to let this opportunity slip by.......was UNFORGIVABLE on my part.

I feel so ungrateful - but so stupid & at my age (just abit younger than the Purple Funk himself)I should be getting over this by now????? But I am still not sleeping (honest truth).

I hope he does not leave it so long to come back to Australia again - this time I will buy a GPS !!!

Check out the ABC interview with the owner of the Eaton's Hill Hotel. He talks about his experience hosting Prince's afterparty. Apparently, S Club 7 (who performed there earlier in the night) and Florence and the Machine were upstairs in the VIP section. I had no idea they were there.

The audio file does not do it justice. Definitely the highlight of my Prince following. I just hope to find the audio of Adore from that night...it was full length, full band, and done in the original style. I almost lost it at that point in the night.

ahhhh, ahhhh! WANT!!! ME WANT THAT!!!! mmmmm, would LOVE to hear that! One of the nights in LA he laid down a pretty nice version of ADORE. There's some video of it, I was there and had some glorious video of him on top of piano, I was on that side and whoops, busted by Security who forced me to delete. ARGHHHH! Would like to hear this as well.

I know isn't it amazing how he can still make us act like school girls, crushing on him like that? I thought I was over it to that extreme but 21 nights in LA made me a lunatic over him again. But I was able to enjoy the ride more and not get as devastated as I used to years and years ago over missed opportunities with him but I was def caught up in an insane purple whirlwind and def felt like you did over Troubadour (but HOB helped, in a way, til I missed the 3rd HOB show...it's a vicious cycle!). As I said in my OrgNote to ya, it's fresh and stings so bad now, consuming you, but time will pass and you will remember and relive the elation you felt at the other 2 concerts more intensely and longer than the pain and regret you feel now. Those memories WILL bring you joy again later. All is not lost. I know his time in Aus is probably short now, but I will hope for another opportunity for you someday.

Normally only lurk these boards but joined just to say that this afterparty was incredible!! Greatest night of my life, and I've had some good nights. His band agree it was one of the greatest aftershows ever. Was lucky enough to be front row, standing 1metre from the man himself. Almost feels like it was a dream now. I would never have predicted that Brisbane would get the best of the aftershows, and at Eatons Hill of all places. It worked out well in a way because only the true fans bothered making the journey all the way out 25mins from the CBD, which made for a better atmosphere. Will never forget this night!!!

Ouch - that hurts !!!!

I am still crying buckets over this - and the pain is not going away.

It is unkind to say "only true fans" as many "true fans" do have other obstacles in their life - money, responsibility etc.

Sometimes the cirumstances are not right.

But having said that, this is the biggest regret I have in my life right now - not having a GPS or Referdex to find my way there (not a local girl) and not brave enough to just drive around in the hopes to find it. I now wish I was braver & have to live with my bad decision.

I am sure I am not alone.sad

Well alot of us did put our hard earned cash on the line & pay for both Brisbane Shows (me included) that is why sometimes it is not fair that people get into the aftershows - having a concert ticket should give preferential treatment first - as some of the aftershow venues are so small. But in Eatons Hills case - it was not filled.

I've been to an aftershow without going to the main concert before. When Prince played the O2 in London I lived in Glasgow, an hour's flight away. One weekend I had flights down to see him play on the Sat main concert and then the Sat aftershow (they were all ticketed, pre-sold same as the main concert on the same Ticketmaster website) I had done the same trip two weeks earlier to see him another time, and realiied that it was possible to go to the O2 later at night. I knew I couldn't get time off work to get there earlier on the Friday, but my evening flights would get me there in time to get to the Friday aftershow (he was playing Fri/Sat) It turns out that he didn't play, it was only the NPG who played without him on that Friday, and then he played a huuuuuuge aftershow on the Sat. I was happy I went to both, what if he played on the Fri and not the Sat and I had missed it? He tended not to do 2 aftershows on consecutive days, so I didn't want to take the chance.

That said, announcing aftershows when the fans are on their way or at the main concert is a nightmare. Cash on the door means people can queue up while the main show is on and you have the choice of leaving early to try and get in line, but even then there's no guarantee you'll get in, or indeed that he'll play.

I think the key to it all is the location, how it is announced and how it is ticketed. The location for Eatons Hill was great. It was a nightmare to get to, which made it great! I totally accept gollygirl's point about not being a local and not being able to find it. I was the same, I know some of the South of the City, but haven't lived here long and don't know the Northside. I had my GPS and iPhone (which has GPS and a browser to Google the address!) and a backup old Nokia which had a browser so I could get Google Maps on it. I was also driving, and not drinking, so I wasn't relying on public transport, taxis or other people.

My wife didn't want to go with me to the Aftershow (he played Stratus twice in London and instrumentals do her head in so she said, never again!) so we made arrangements to drop her in the city and make her own way home (we live 30Kms south of the city) after midnight. For some people this would lead to divorce, but I had made it crystal clear that she was more than welcome to come with me if an aftershow was announced, and if she didn't want to go then she could go home herself! this was all agreed long before the day of the concert. I basically did a 30+km detour to drop her in the city and then back out to Eatons Hill. It's all in the preparation. You have to be prepared to drop everything and head off on a wild goose chase. It felt like we were orienteering when we were queued up on the edge of a muddy field in the dark! I'd much rather do that than leave a concert early to go join the back of a queue with hundreds of people in front of me who are just turning up to try and get a photo of a celeb in the CBD.

I've never expected an aftershow (even in London there was never any guarantee he would play), but I always hope. And if there is an aftershow, then I am always grateful. I still had a great time at the main shows, particularly the second Brisbane one (although Empty Room during the first was a real treat), but for me the aftershows are the real event where I can see and hear the performances I know I am going to love. How many main show tickets do you think Prince would sell if people knew he was going to play cover versions of early 70s electronic Jazz instrumentals from an album recorded by a drummer?? That would be Stratus by Billy Cobham. He played it at Eatons Hill. And the hairs on the back of my neck stand on end when I think about it. But would he fill an arena if people knew that was going to be the content? I doubt it. That's why I go to aftershows and do all I can to get there. It's just a shame that many of the people who wander in and get drunk just don't appreciate it, and others who would just can't get there, or can't get in.

Funkmaster - you are so right - it was lack of preperation on my part.

thing is I originaly only planned to go to one show - (due to funds) and brought the May 18th tickets from Ticketek -

but after going to that I wanted to go to the second, so whenI went home I brought tickets to the second show straight away.

I am not good at night driving so roped a friend to come with me (she would drive my car) and I paid for her arena ticket as well.

But for some reason I just did not think about the After Show - Doh eek

So did not get a Brisbane Referedex (only have a Gold Coast one) and I dont have a GPS.

So here we were after the concert sitting in the arena trying to get google maps on her phone.

She had messed up her internet settings and so that was a failiure she could not log on - more doh sad sad

I dont have internet on my phone as I have pre-paid.

In fact it was quite embarressing as we sat their fiddling - the BEC staff came up and asked us to move on!

We explained we were trying to find Eatons Hills and he says "well do you know such and such a suburb...." we knew none of them.

so we had no idea where to start - if we just had a starting point we could have found it.

No service stations around - what do you do?

But still I wish we just drove until we found a servo then started over -

but yes, lack of preparation is really to blame here - and lack of confidence to try and find a place I had no idea to start with.

I just did not want my friend driving my car like a maniac on a goose chase - and as we were on a concert high from such an amazing show it did not seem to matter so much - UNTIL the reality set in the next day!

Dont you worry, I will never forgive myself - that is the truth !!!!!!

Thank you Prince for every note you left behind 💜

Aftershows are such a logistical nightmare for people (what if you need a babysitter, etc!) That's the reason it's so irritating when someone just strolling past at the time it is announced gets in first...and then they behave like idiots.

A mix of people in the audience is no bad thing, but how do you ensure everyone gets a fair chance to get in line or get tickets? OK, so you don't want to just limit it to the "hardcore" fans...so rather than creating a closed club, how do you give everyone the same access...in other words, don't DISadvantage the people going to the main concert. How many people were looking at their Twitter account, etc while Prince was onstage at the main concert? I know I was. I was googling the address when he was playing an encore. Meanwhile...people who didn't bother to go (as opposed to those who couldn't afford to do both and gambled on the aftershow) are free to get to the gig before the main show even finishes??

I was at the two aftershows and main shows in my city, so I did alright, but I do feel for those who didn't have the means to go, I know how I would've felt.

Funkmaster - you did well where you were. Where I sat (gate 11) they were so mean. I got my phone out well before the show even started (just after 7pm) and was told off by the security if I got my phone out again I would abe asked to leave !!!!

the lady behind me during the show was texting and got told off - it was funny really, as she had no idea what she was doing wrong as she was only sending a message.

And two girls near me were taken outside with their phones.

They were super crazy there with the phone thing.

I saw them climbing between seats to nab people with phones.

the week before (18th) we all had our phones out the whole show - I think the P party seriously got up the crew for that and that is why there were so vigilant the next week?

Yeah, i noticed the same, I was at gate 4 for the second show and Gate 10 or 11 for the first. During the first show there were very very few occasions when security spoke to people. During the second they were all over people, going into the rows of seats, etc. there was definitely a change in the approach between the shows.

The difference between the shows in Melbourne verses the second Brisbane show were night and day. They were running the whole no cameras or phones thing in Brisbane like a military operation.

A few songs in P asks the crowd to get their mobile phones out. you should have seen security scrambling where we were as people took the opportunity to get a quick pic. Pretty funny.

The thing that steered me away from going (besides impending divorce) was the use of the word afterparty instead of aftershow when they announced it after the concert. I don't have mobile internet, so that's all I had to go on. To me, that screamed that Prince may not perform. If I knew Prince was going to perform, I would have been there. But at the time, it seemed like a big risk.

I don't have mobile internet, so that's all I had to go on. To me, that screamed that Prince may not perform. If I knew Prince was going to perform, I would have been there. But at the time, it seemed like a big risk.

You and I we can weep together my friend - I shall courier you over some tissues - if I can find a full box in my house.

Thank you Prince for every note you left behind 💜

A few songs in P asks the crowd to get their mobile phones out. you should have seen security scrambling where we were as people took the opportunity to get a quick pic. Pretty funny.

That made me laugh big time too - one security fellow was on to this woman like a flies on a fresh cow pad - and she turned to him and pointed to the crowd who all had their phones out - was a real Kodak moment for sure. I giggled at that.

Thank you Prince for every note you left behind 💜
