CONCERT REVIEWS (Post Here) - Tues 12/13/11 - Edmonton, Alberta - Rexall Place

Post your concert reviews and experiences here folks.

Any other threads created will get the lock and be redirected to this sticky.

Woooo hoooo!!! woot! I'm going to be there!!! ............ Anyways, thought I would put some useful information up should it be needed.

How to get to Edmonton........... fly, drive, bus............

Edmonton International Airport http://flyeia.com/ - located 45 minutes outside the city limits (southside). Rexall place is located on the north side of the city.

Taking a cab can be expensive to and from the airport. If you are staying at a hotel, when booking a cab ask for airport rate and be sure to tell the driver.

Take the shuttle http://www.edmontonskyshuttle.com/ , much cheaper than taking an expensive ride via cab. Shuttles will deliver/pick up to hotels.

Rate of exchange http://ca.finance.yahoo.c...=USD;amt=1

Greyhound http://www.greyhound.ca/ - Located downtown.

You can take the LRT from downtown - (light rail transit) where you get off at "coliseum station" to get to and from Rexall Place http://www.edmonton.ca/tr...s/lrt.aspx .

Free "park and ride" parking is available at Clareview, Belvedere, Stadium, and Century Park LRT Stations. Check link for fare rates to ride bus or LRT.

Transit http://www.edmonton.ca/tr...m-ets.aspx

Rexall place http://www.rexall-place.com/

I do not recommend parking at Rexall Place. They charge a fee, plus it will take you f-o-r-e-v-e-r to get out of there via vehicle out of the parking area.

Have fun everyone in Edmonton! smile

LOL, I'm British & we put the dates the other way round!!!! Sorry, have fun tonight smile Which is still a terrible excuse as that would have made it 12th of the 13th month.... too funky for me!

Ah shit 1999!

Prince just asked us to Take Me With U

Then he jumps into a funky Controversy against a sea of rolling smartphone lights

Teasing the crowd with Darling Nikki, says he has 2 many hits. You betcha by golly wow, Prince

Now he's playing a lite jazz take on Purple Rain. Mauve Mist? Ah hell, the crowd loves it regardless.

Strutting to Cream. Maeco Parker solo. The ghost of James Brown does the splits.

A third of Rexall clears out and Prince comes strolling back playing pingpong. Fuck. Yes.

Nothing Compares 2 U.

A few MJ samples at tonight's show.

Alright so I just got home from a freaking Prince concert in my great hometown of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada and I can honestly say it was the most fun I've had at a show in a long while.

I decided to splurge and purchase a VIP package because, you know, it's Prince. Along with some interesting freebies (super soft shirt, commemorative tickets/VIP passes, symbol necklaces, etc.), we were supposed to have early entry into the venue. Not sure why but there was only one queue through which they let people in and it moved INCREDIBLY slowly. We were supposed to get in at 6:45 but probably finally got in like a half hour later. It was a little annoying and VIP Nation really dropped the ball but it's just a case of first world problems so I didn't really care. People behind me in line couldn't shut up about it though, one old frog (ugly old woman, not a slur against French people) was calling it the worst investment she's ever made and I played the world's smallest violin for her.

Showtime was listed as 8pm but it didn't get under way until 8:58. No opening acts and that was no real problem on my part. Don't recall every single song but I'll try my best.

Opened with Let's Go Crazy, interspersed with Delirious. Moved into 1999. That was followed by my personal fav Shhh (actually it might have been Take Me With U after 99 but Shhh was in the first few). Literally no one around me knew it but I was jumping up and down I was so stoked. At about this point I don't have complete recall but I'll list the ones I remember for sure in no particular order.

Get Wild (I know!)

Kiss

Raspberry Beret

Don't Stop Till You Get Enough/Cool Medley

Controversy

Cream

Jughead (just kidding)

When Doves Cry

Nothing Compares 2 U

Alphabet Street

Hot Thing

Snippet of Darling Nikki

I Would Die 4 U

Purple Rain

Play That Funky Music

Take Me With U

Sign O The Times

DMSR

Snippet of A Love Bizarre (yay!)

Probably forgetting some but that's what I recall at the current time. Betcha By Golly Wow was not played. That's my second Prince show, also went to the 12/29/10 show in NYC. This show had more unexpected treats than the NYC show and though there was an emphasis on the hits there was stuff for the hardcore purple heads too. The crowd was electric and it was loud from start to finish. A lot of people who only knew the hits but that can be expected. All in all awesome show that I won't soon forget. I also made eye contact 2 or 3 times so that was pretty cool too!

whatever happend 2 the songs Welcome 2 America, black muse, gingerbread man or some of the other songs he's doing during the course of this welcome 2 ... series? or even extraloveable?

man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

God, PLEASE don't let him play Extraloveable. The revamped version was a monstrosity, and I want him to just forget it even exists!! But yeah, what has happened to those songs (though Gingerbread Man was only new lyrics over Question of U music)? I can't wait for this hits-laden bullshit tour to be over with so that he can hopefully get back to doing some real performances!

Ok, hubby and I get there and we got to stand inside the foyer before they opened the doors to Rexall. There was a sign posted to the inside doors to the facility that stated that no cameras blah blah or you will get ejected blah blah blah. They opened the doors to the inside about roughly 7:15 p.m. Hubby had to use the washroom facilitites while I hit the merch table.

Picked up some guitar pics and concert programs that I got requests to pick up for some orgers. Got me a T-shirt cool - They were selling raspberry berets too giggle

Hubby gets a beer and I get my coke and off we go locating our seats. When we get there we find out from the person helping that our tix have to be exchanged eek eek So tix are exchanged and with our new location we go find that. Once there we sit down.

The show was fantastic. Shelby, and the girls were awesome. Andy Allo you could tell was a sweetheart and John Blackwell was banging on his drums!!! Maceo was great!!! He was last here with Prince during the ONA tour. Was nice to hear him again.

Prince.... well what can I say. funkyspectacular. He got the whole place getting their funk on.

At some point Prince tells folks to get their cell phones out. Which was wtf?? When prior to that part of the show there was security, and they had old men who are in their 60's showing folks where there seats are and then having to chase after people. I felt sorry for them having to go up flights of steps to stop folks from taking pics.

Prince got some folks to dance on the stage. One woman that got picked was dancing all over the stage. She was tall with high heels and Prince did not get too close neutral Looked like she was going to dance on the stage all night and never get off. Andy eventually took her back to the stairs and security helped the woman dancer off the stage.

While doing his bum moves/wiggles during singing Kiss. The camera was on his butt wiggling drool drool I was screaming and hubby just rolled his eyes lol Then when the camera was on the frontal view of his moves his shirt went up with the movement of his arms and I swear I saw his balls and a hard on eek lick giggle Well, the camera was pretty zoomed in enough to tell that part lolol.

Bye the end of the night I had no voice left!!

Where did you get upgraded to / from luv?

Was the tweet about 1/3 of the building leaving before his third encore fairly accurate? The live blog someone posted here said he came back on and said "don't you trust me?" lol

1/3 of the building did not leave. A few folks started to leave assuming the concert was over when Prince said his good nite to the crowd. Folks were boooing when the purple piano was being removed after they left the stage. Everyone stood their ground wanting more. Lights did not come fully on. Folks were screaming, whistling and making noise for more. Hardly anyone left. I stayed as the house lights were not fully on so that told me it was not over. You know when it's over when all the lights go on.

Prince and the band eventually came back out and did 3 or 4 more songs and then it was over.
