I'll make this as short as I can, to not take the thread off course, but no, but then you should follow that same advice when others say positive things about the concert who were actually there, and not jump all over them and assume they are 'koolaid drinkers' or some nonsense like that, just because they actually 'liked' a setlist from his concert(s), whether you complain it may be the same.

understand that i don't take someone's "postive" critique of a show and jump on them. that's not what I do. i make my own statements and respond back 2 those that in turn want 2 jump me or any others that state they didn't like the show. everyone is entitled 2 their view and should be respected without the name calling. but if that respect can't be shown, then those that get called kool aid drinkers shouldn't be 2 suprised 2 be called that.

L4, You're wrong about one thing though in that above comment of yours, because I've heard at least 3 to 4 songs of the Original7’s song from their newalbum, and said I liked the 3 I’ve heard so far, but I never said I disliked their ntire album, because I haven't heard the whole album. At least if you're going to put me on blast come to the table with a full deck of cards, not a half-assed one. lol Secondly, if you want to go there….The Original aka The Time, has a very familiar setlist for umpteen years, complete with the same stage performance ( “Jerome, hand me the mirror please so I can slick my hair back and straighten my tie “) and you complain about Prince?

The O7 are now on their own and let’s see in the future, if they get a pass from you if they continue to sing the same songs, complete with the same, type stage performance, which they know their ‘fans’ are familiar with and ‘expect’ , and let's see if they add that 'familiarity' in with their current and future, new songs down the road.

Correct me, if I'm wrong, but what I get from you, is that most of your complaints seems to be that you don’t like his popular, familiar songs on his setlists.

I'm not telling you how you should feel in your experience, but no matter the setlist, even if he added 10 rare songs, as long as you see 1 or 2 of the same songs he did from a previous show on the setlist, you will still complain, as though he doesn’t change/add other songs at all. Plus remember, his set list is not, solely or specifically designed to please you in particular, especially when the man has tons of fans to please from different eras of his career, who attend his shows. So don't 'expect' it will be always played to your, specific taste in his music. I'm sure we all want him to perform many songs from his extensive catalogue, but a musician with his 30-year plus music history, can't play in an arena and not perform some of his most popular/familiar songs from his catalogue, known to casual, diehards and new fans, because he doesn’t just have ‘one-type’ of fan base, where he can do an entire show of only new and rare songs in a show, without familiar ones. He usually seems to pull out the rarities at the smaller venues where many of the diehards most likely show up. Anyway, that's all I'll have to say on that for now. We can take it further in that thread link Rodeo posted, so we don't take this thread off course.

i know the 07/morris day and the time have been doing the same setlist since 96 hence i haven't seen them since. hopefully with this new tour they will add more songs 2 their setilist. the major difference between any act like the time vs someone who has more material 2 pull from is obvious. ur working with only a set limit as compared to hundreds more material but this is something prince doesn't do.

and your half right on my assetment about his hits, what i would love 2 see and it's been said on these type of threads as well, is a BALANCE of hits to deep cuts/hardcore material. this type of show would benefit everyone involved that can witness that he's not a performer stuck in a time warp and that's what he is. regardless of venue size, if he was smart enough 2 market himself in this way 2 those that may not be more familiar with his catalouge. Casual fans aren't the ones that have and contiue 2 support him.

and as 4 rodeo's thread falloff no need 2 go into a lions den of people that won't listen 2 reason. i'm from the george clinton school of things ..let's take it 2 the stage which is here in forums of the concerts themselves. cause if u can't swim here then ur not a good swimmer at all .

[Edited 12/9/11 12:08pm]

The man doesn't perform the same at any show and has sung some of his songs in different versions. When he releases new albums, that's not being stuck in the past, it's called moving forward and releasing new music, while choosing not to stay 'stuck' in the past, like some of his fans seem to want him to do. You mention you want people to see that he's a musician not stuck in the pas, t yet you request he pulls out more rarities/hard core material from his catalogue. He's apparently been moving forward by changing many of his band members and releasing new music over the years, but some fans still want him to bring back members of his former bands, it seems to somehow help them 'reminisce' or fill a void of a time period in their lives, that once was. Well, they can always reach into their own Prince catalogue and make that happen for themselves, because what I see is a musician who has moved on, and not afraid to release new music regardless of the 'nostalgia' some fans crave for in their lives that he can't fill for them. Pretty much seems to me that some fans want to mold or control how he should present himself as a musician to them, instead of accepting and respecting that it is his life, his music, and his decision as to how he chooses to present his music, and which band members who chooses to collaborate with, yet at the same time, some fans scream, holler and accuse him of being the one who is controlling? How ironic to say the least. Tsk...tsk. lol

What's the name of this thread? It APPEARS to be "CONCERT REVIEWS (Post Here) - Thurs. 12/8/11 - Winnipeg, Manitoba - MTS Centre'. Can you explain to me how one can review a concert one did not attend?

Was there some breakthrough in telepathy or cell transportation that I missed??????

Now, because I am a great guy, I have taken the time to create a thread espeically for those who didn't go to the concert and want to bitch about songs they did not hear! And I'm sure it's soon to be a sticky, if not front page news.

L4OA went to a concert? Great! L4OA is free to review/bitch about the concert he actually WENT to. But bitching about something you DIDN'T go to is pretty stupid.

Therefore, I created a masterpiece of a thread where people can congregate to complain about stuff they never even heard.

Well since YOU created that "masterpiece" thread, you'll probably be the ONLY one posting in it.

Now, did something DRASTICALLY change about the music or arrangements or his scripts during the concert from last last December all the way through now?? No, it didn't. So, if I've heard the some of those concerts from the same, unchanged tour already (oooops, I can't forget the brilliant addition of Andy the painter and blazing axe handler!!), I've pretty much heard the one from last night, especially based on the set list. So, no "telepathy or cell transportation" is needed. Just common sense. When he really starts changing up his shit, THEN come back and holla at me for not having heard the show. But until then, it's NOTHING we haven't already heard. And THAT's been our main point/problem this entire time.

And everyone else's main point/problem is that they have been enjoying the concerts they've actually attended, and no one could care less about what you think of a show you didn't attend.

I have a brilliant idea! Why don't you guys start a "OMG! THE CONCERT SETLIST NEVER CHANGES!" thread where you can condense all your criticisms over concerts you didn't attend into one concise location.

Think of how easy it would be! You would no longer have to post on every single concert thread, talking about how much you didn't like something you never heard!

No longer would you have to check multiple threads to see if anyone's post is a response to your critique of something you neither saw nor heard.

Think of the time you will save!

Oh wait - I already created that thread for you. See what a nice guy I am!

Nope. We'll stay where we are, thank you. Since you and others don't care what we think because we didn't attend the concert, again, please feel free to IGNORE it. It's really just that simple. I don't tell you where to post because I don't like what you've said, so you shouldn't either.

Now, back to discussing all aspects of the show...

It's hard to ignore incessant complaining which takes up most of a thread and threatens to hijack it. neutral

Notice it's the SAME three troll users typing the same shit in each thread of Prince performances.

You never went to the concert.

They did.

Maybe somebody should type a fake setlist with RANDOM ASS SONGS next time so that these three people can shut their mouths?

Coke is quite a drug if you read a setlist and feel like you've actually witnessed everything on stage performed.

it's one thing 2 quote the name but be sure u get the facts straight ..are u sure u went 2 this show or any show in particular? i can site off the dates and venue i went 2 see this show can u? and if u liked it or if anyone liked it, there is no problem. my comments are not to those that enjoy themself but its 2 the artist that is on the stage doing these shows. I have seen others speak about the security at these shows and their gripes about it. since i wasn't there i can't speak on the treatment they got and i don't do such a thing. The music performed is soemthing i can speak on because i have heard the material previously. when those that HAVE attended these shows and they comment on things like i mention, nothing is said 2 them but u choose 2 come at me with ur comments and then that's when i step back 2 u directly. not naming anyone else but the person calling me out. u don't like what i have 2 say about these type of setlists/music being played, simple don't respond back 2 me. i won't take no offense if u do.

my original comment in this thread was simply a sarcastic way of pointing out that those that don't agree with people like me that are disappointed in the same old songs night in night out cannot silence me or others. it would be just as unfair if we went and said 2 every single person there or not that liked what they heard or see from a setlist to stop praising it and stfu then we would be wrong 4 doing that.

i have not nor will i be told 2 stfu or go 2 some other thread 2 talk about these shows.

I do not know how to tell you this so I'm just going to say it:

Prince does not read your posts.

Sorry.

so u can pass my messages 2 him right? please?

man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

he's recording new music yes, is he performing it on a nightly basis? no

here's what i'm referring 2 as 4 deep cuts, at msg he does uptown and the hardcore fans stood up and cheered and danced, next song ..raspberry ..casual fans roar while hardcore fans sat back down ..but when he does songs like adore that wasn't a single, place go nuts..

now deep cuts can now mean any bunch of songs in his aresenal since when u ask a casual fan about prince, they will only speak of 3 albums and really 5 songs ..1999, LRC,LGC,WDC and PR and maybe kiss

Tsk...tsk. lol

[Edited 12/9/11 14:11pm]

he's recording new music yes, is he performing it on a nightly basis? no

here's what i'm referring 2 as 4 deep cuts, at msg he does uptown and the hardcore fans stood up and cheered and danced, next song ..raspberry ..casual fans roar while hardcore fans sat back down ..but when he does songs like adore that wasn't a single, place go nuts..

now deep cuts can now mean any bunch of songs in his aresenal since when u ask a casual fan about prince, they will only speak of 3 albums and really 5 songs ..1999, LRC,LGC,WDC and PR and maybe kiss

L4, L4, L4...you remind me of someone who pays for the lowest price ticket at a concert and does the most of the complaining and demands. Oh but that's right, you did do that at the MSG concerts....and still complained. (j/k) But seriously, it seems according to you, Prince only gets a pass from you if he sing/perform songs you want to hear, even at shows you're not present at and paid no money to attend. Then according to you, if a casual fan does not have the 'full knowledge' of every song-released or not, that Prince has ever written/sang live or not/scribbled on a corner of a brown paper bag/recorded in his studio/sang in the shower, etc., then that fan doesn’t pass L4's obsessed description of what a real or true Prince fan is.

Even if you did not pay one cent towards that fan’s concert ticket, airfare/hotel/new clothes to wear to the concert lol—okay that last one is a bit exaggerated, but seriously the fact that you are not present at a show, where a fan posts their concert review of their personal experience of the show and admiration for a song on the setlist, you find too ‘familiar’, you have to remember…it’s not your experience, it’s that fan’s experience, just like yours is, whether they're a casual or diehard fan.

Either way, you will still find something to complain about for every, single show. I guarantee there hasn’t been a thread where there were concert reviews, and you didn’t find something on the setlist to complain about, even if Prince threw in a rare song or two in the mix of said setlist that you hope would show up on the setlist. Constructive criticism is different from obsessed complaining about the same thing. The shows are not designed or planned specifically for you.

Quite frankly, I remember during the W2A NY/NJ tour, when you kept hoping Prince sang “The Love We Make” at the shows you attended, but he never did play that song at those shows, to my recollection. I’m sorry L4, but I am not ashamed to admit that I laughed my ass off knowing that you didn’t get your wish.

I have to say I enjoy reading many concert reviews over the years, especially when a fan sees it for the first time or someone takes their loved one or kids, and they are blown away by the performance. This is not saying that I’ll never read a review with constructive criticism, negativity or that someone doesn’t like a particular song or the version in which it is/was performed, but just like how you express yourself about your experience as a fan, and your constant complaining blahblah hammer about the setlists of shows you’ve never attended/or paid money to see, well there’s nothing wrong with new or casual fans admiring a song on a setlist considered 'too familiar' to you or that they are not as aware of the many songs in Prince’s 30 year plus catalogue.

Sorry L4, no disrespect to you of course, but you don't get to wear Prince's crown based on your knowledge of Prince's extensive, music catalogue or that you consider yourself a diehard fan, because at the end of the day....you're just a fan, no better or less, than the rest of us who pay to see him perform and walk away with our own experience(s) and memories from it. (Going to read read some more concert reviews now.)biggrin

love ur analogy of me it was cute but so off base. i paid what i paid for my own economic needs, i've seen prince up close and closser than u might ever have which i'm not in any ways trying 2 say u have or haven't so i didn't need 2 be all up in his grill at nyc when the screens did me justice. u see more when ur on the top anyway with this stage construction.

but i would like 4 u 2 do me a favor while ur scrolling through ur other concert threads where i posted and "attacked" any concert goer that enjoyed themselves at these shows.

go on i'll wait......

and while i wait 4 u 2 find that, i don't mind that u laughed at me for him not doing the love we make but i got the bigger laugh when y'all we're saying y'all were BROKE after spending that money

man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

You never went to the concert.

They did.

Maybe somebody should type a fake setlist with RANDOM ASS SONGS next time so that these three people can shut their mouths?

Coke is quite a drug if you read a setlist and feel like you've actually witnessed everything on stage performed.

Ex.

(intro)

Eye No

Sister

We Can Funk

Bambi/I'm Yours

Head

Privite Joy (AMPED UP VERSION, DUDES! headbang)

Extralovable (1982 version. He even sings the rape line at 50 years old like we wanted because that's totally not inappropiate at all)

Race

My Computer

The Cross (The ORGINAL TITLE because it absolutly makes a difference)

The Max

Batdance

Partyman/Prettyman

Rave Un2 The Joy Fantastic

Rasberry Beret (JK JK JK! lol HE DIDN'T PLAY A KNOWN HIT. GOD FORBID he pleases his casual fans)

Scarlet Pussy

Shy

The Morning Papers

The Last December

ZOMG!!!!!!!!!! AMAZING SHOW!

ALL I DID WAS READ THE SETLIST AND I'VE HAD THE BEST TIME OF MY LIFE! *cums in pants*

Grow the fuck up. rolleyes

You're better off bitching and moaning in a therapist's office.

It's hard to ignore incessant complaining which takes up most of a thread and threatens to hijack it. neutral

I'm sure you're smart enough. You can do it.

I mean, it's hard to ignore the bullshit threads about his ass, hair, or the same ol' shit that's always talked about in the M&M forum, but I skip over that shit, and pay attention to what's relevant to me. You and everyone else can do the same. Those who attended the show can very well post in this thread (and the other concert thread) if they want; it's definitely not being "hijacked'. What stillwaiting, L4OA, or myself say about a show doesn't mean anyone else can't still post about their thoughts, opinions, and experiences. So, if the attendees wanted to post more about whatever they saw or heard at the show, they would (and do).

So umm yeah!!!! yes

Did I meantion that was a truly stunning set up? Massive!

The overhead rig was so cool and all of the special effects/light displays really made it special.

From the floor you can't see the outline lights of the stage but there are so many other things

going on and they really added to the atmosphere and just worked so well with the songs!

One thing that I'm NOT sure if has been mentioned but last night

arrow no VIP's were invited up to dance!

I kept saying to those around me "there must be more! Vip's haven't gone up yet!"

Thanks for mentioning the 'no dancers' Nipples! My friends and I had seats in VIP 1 Purple Circle (west side of the 'point') right beside the stairs and we were hoping....boy were we hoping that we'd be invited to the party onstage but since no one went up we weren't feeling left out! And for those who complain that purple circle tix aren't worth it....We respectfully disagree. As I read in another thread, if you've seen him before, having the chance for that eye contact with Prince(for me, during Joy in Repetition...one of my top 5 alltime faves...maybe cause there weren't very many folks around who seemed to know the words and I knew them all)...anyway, was a great VIP experience for us. (ps: I didn't see if it was elsewhere...but Andy's 'drawing' was during Raspberry Beret last night- apologizes if repeating info).

Oh Prince. You extravagant, spectacular devil, you.

No one — and I mean no one — throws a party quite like His Royal Badness. The iconic, prolific, eccentric Minneapolis musician hosted a two-and-a-half hour funk/pop/R&B/soul/disco throwdown at the MTS Centre last night — and while the evening was all about glittery, larger-than-life performances (his dramatic encore exits — via trap door and smoke, natch — were worth the price of admission alone), it was also about "real music played by real musicians."

That was perhaps the most striking thing about seeing Prince live; while it was a thrill to hear the hits — Raspberry Beret, Little Red Corvette, Kiss, 1999, Purple Rain and Nothing Compares 2 U all made appearances in the set — it was a real joy to see someone who very clearly takes a tremendous amount of joy in playing music for people. To see His Purple Majesty jam onstage with two other legends — former James Brown saxophonist Marceo Parker and Sly & The Family Stone bassist Larry Graham — was absolutely awe-inspiring. (The three Sly covers — Everyday People, Stand and Thank You — were runaway crowd pleasers.)

Indeed, our host with the most looked like he was having the time of his life — a smile never left that perfectly made-up face. There was no mistake about who’s party we were at — this was Prince’s show — but he went to lengths to make sure everyone in that room was having as much fun as he was. (Also, at 53, the guy’s got insatiable energy — not to mention an ass that won’t quit. He’s one Sexy MF, indeed.)

If you missed it, make sure you add seeing him to your concert bucket list. A Prince show is more than just a concert — it’s an experience. But perhaps this text I received mid-show from my pal Alicia sums it up best: "Amaze balls. Amaze. Balls."

Actually, I was not broke after any shows I attended after the W2A NYC shows, and I don't pay for shows I can't afford. You must have me mixed up with one of your friends you attended the show with, that you had to ask to borrow money to buy that bag of skittles you always talk about. I mean you spent a whole $20....eek Wow, you're rolling big bro'...Oh wait somebody please call the bank and let them know who snatched their $20 off their counter!. lol

By the way, yes I have seen him perform on stage, up close in Vegas during 2006/2007 at some of those shows and at Butter restaurant 2006, right in front, about 2 to 3 feet away, along with other orgers who post here occasionally, were at those shows as well. I'm sure there are many fans that have had that opportunity.

I've been to shows prior to that;the Purple Rain/Lovesexy tours, where I was nowhere close to the stage in those arenas. So being able to see him perform in a smaller venue, up close was a great opportunity and good memories.

By the way I was just joking about what you paid for your ticket so don't be a crybaby about it. lol I don't pay your bills so I can't tell you what you should or should not pay for a ticket or what you can or cannot afford, that's your personal right what you choose to pay for your ticket, but figured you could handle the humor of what I said. About me searching the threads to see if you 'attacked' anyone over their concert experience, well I never said you attacked anyone, I said you often criticize how some embrace songs on setlists that are of familiarity to you, as a diehard fan. Comprende’? Hey Skittles...I love it when you get tense whenever someone calls you on your point of view on this topic...giggle angel

OOOOOOOHH My Godddddd!!

What an amazing night. So many thoughts to write here that I will have to do it when I have time to organize them. For now a few mentions...

My seat was at the very point of the stage. Awesome for dancing! For the encores a few of us were respectfully closer to the stage but keeping a distance.

Then Prince kind of made that "aww, come on, what are you doing back there?" face and beckoned us closer.

Of course the whole area was rushed! But I was ~~this far~~ away from the man, dancing to *fainting* Delerious!

The song that got me hooked way back when I was a kid! excited

My legs ache. But my grin is permenant.

I am so sorry to Runningbear that we did not meet up. I was attempting to serruptitiously take a photo during the encores

and my phone was dead before the show was over to get in contact with him for later!

I was writing all over my arm to try to capture the setlist and half of it I can not even make out today so

I am glad to see the local press having reported on it. I have so many more delicious thoughts but they will have to wait.

arrow Just know Prince looked fabulous and he was thoroughly enjoying himself. The endless funk jam may

have lost the crowd halfway through but I loved the looks that Prince was sharing with Maceo and Larry at center stage as they just... jammed. guitar

Glorious!! heart

Glad you had a great time, thanks for sharing.
