Anyhoo...thanks for those who shared their concert experiences. I've enjoyed reading them and they make one feel as if one was there. wink

I haven't even really started! lol... I love reading people's experiences too.

It's been a heck of a few days but wouldn't change it for the world so that I could have this experience!

dancing jig

Quick shout out to a few outfits from the evening! Just too awesome not to mention...

Size zero chick that made me sing to myself... "Uh, oh, here she come She got them gold hot pants on again..."

Ok, so they were RED glitter pants and they weren't (short) hot pants... but were still on fire!

Dude with leather pants, fuzzy purple vest and purple fedora! He was shaking his tail feather...

and last but not least,

shout out to the tall skinny dude all in black... pencil leg jeans with studs all up the side legs and a white lace garter up on his thigh!

Takes a true male Prince fan to pull of those last two looks!

That review... Has Larry been on the entire tour? This is the first I heard mention of him. Hope he makes it to Calgary.

Pretty damn sure this was his first appearance in Canada! Hence the large bass jam time given to Larry. Was great to have Maceo, Prince and Larry funking out. Dude played the bass with his mouth at one point lol.

Thanks for mentioning the 'no dancers' Nipples! My friends and I had seats in VIP 1 Purple Circle (west side of the 'point') right beside the stairs and we were hoping....boy were we hoping that we'd be invited to the party onstage but since no one went up we weren't feeling left out! And for those who complain that purple circle tix aren't worth it....We respectfully disagree. As I read in another thread, if you've seen him before, having the chance for that eye contact with Prince(for me, during Joy in Repetition...one of my top 5 alltime faves...maybe cause there weren't very many folks around who seemed to know the words and I knew them all)...anyway, was a great VIP experience for us. (ps: I didn't see if it was elsewhere...but Andy's 'drawing' was during Raspberry Beret last night- apologizes if repeating info).

People around me were probably saying who is the obnoxious chick who thinks she can sing as I was belting out all the words. smile

I seriously almost started to cry at JOY... but I did not want black running down my face for the rest of the show! lol

Didn't know giving a valid point was qualified as bitching. Oh that's right, it's not.

and giving valid points is not being a hater either

man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

love ur analogy of me it was cute but so off base. i paid what i paid for my own economic needs, i've seen prince up close and closser than u might ever have which i'm not in any ways trying 2 say u have or haven't so i didn't need 2 be all up in his grill at nyc when the screens did me justice. u see more when ur on the top anyway with this stage construction.

but i would like 4 u 2 do me a favor while ur scrolling through ur other concert threads where i posted and "attacked" any concert goer that enjoyed themselves at these shows.

go on i'll wait......

and while i wait 4 u 2 find that, i don't mind that u laughed at me for him not doing the love we make but i got the bigger laugh when y'all we're saying y'all were BROKE after spending that money

Actually, I was not broke after any shows I attended after the W2A NYC shows, and I don't pay for shows I can't afford. You must have me mixed up with one of your friends you attended the show with, that you had to ask to borrow money to buy that bag of skittles you always talk about. I mean you spent a whole $20....eek Wow, you're rolling big bro'...Oh wait somebody please call the bank and let them know who snatched their $20 off their counter!. lol

By the way, yes I have seen him perform on stage, up close in Vegas during 2006/2007 at some of those shows and at Butter restaurant 2006, right in front, about 2 to 3 feet away, along with other orgers who post here occasionally, were at those shows as well. I'm sure there are many fans that have had that opportunity.

I've been to shows prior to that;the Purple Rain/Lovesexy tours, where I was nowhere close to the stage in those arenas. So being able to see him perform in a smaller venue, up close was a great opportunity and good memories.

By the way I was just joking about what you paid for your ticket so don't be a crybaby about it. lol I don't pay your bills so I can't tell you what you should or should not pay for a ticket or what you can or cannot afford, that's your personal right what you choose to pay for your ticket, but figured you could handle the humor of what I said. About me searching the threads to see if you 'attacked' anyone over their concert experience, well I never said you attacked anyone, I said you often criticize how some embrace songs on setlists that are of familiarity to you, as a diehard fan. Comprende’? Hey Skittles...I love it when you get tense whenever someone calls you on your point of view on this topic...giggle angel

I don’t have a great deal to add to my original comments, but I have to note that, while I do think the Sly jam did go on too long, it was for the most part a genuine pleasure to see Larry Graham and experience those songs being played by those people. When I first saw the white suit & hat on stage, I did feel a little tremor of fear based on the reports I’ve seen on this site over the years, but there was no proselytizing to be heard, and (in my opinion as a non-musician) his solo was pretty damn cool.

As for the set-list/arrangement complaints cluttering most of this thread...there’s no harm in having standards and expectations of performers, certainly. I had my own reservations about aspects of this show, and I alluded to a couple of them in an earlier post. But when people insist on droning on in the most tone-deaf fashion repeatedly and in (I think) every thread dedicated to a concert in this forum, they cross the threshold from constructive criticism to just being something of a jerk, and some of the posts in this forum absolutely reek of jerkyness.

The show I saw wasn’t the show I personally would have wanted in my own utopia, but by most standards it was a very generous show – generous in length and generous in effort. It may not have been what I wanted, but I believe that sometimes you should put aside your expectations and just be grateful for what you receive. Prince is a tremendous talent, and I don’t think it’s sycophantic to just be happy that I'm able to witness that talent at this stage of the game, however he chooses to express it.

well expressed and kind. the thing also is that it is very special to have Prince, Maceo and Larry Graham jamming together. this was history in the making. from reports I have read, Prince was really enjoying himself, and smiled the whole time.

If you have no problem hearing the truth, stating the truth has to be told and having the courage to take the shots, while standing by your beliefs that you're not a 'yes' man, then you should have the courage, and not protest so hard hearing the truth from many here, about how you complain to no end about setlists of shows you never attended, and how you draw your final conclusion of those shows, based on just viewing a setlist. It’s a totally, different vibe when people who actually attend a show, can share their 'own' experiences and give a more, detailed view/opinion vs someone who was never at the show, but yet draws a conclusion of a show based only on reading the setlist(s).lol

I am not saying you can't have an opinion about it negatively, positively or constructively, but being 'present' at a show and witnessing how the musician and his band performs each song, gives a more detailed opinion of any show. For example, when he sang 'Gingerbread' to the music of 'The One/Question of U' at MSG in NYC, if you heard that performance on a cd or some other form of media, you will not have the same effect or perception of it, as those who actually witnessed the performance of that song. So often times, just viewing a setlist, does not represent a fair or complete result of a show.

If you go in with too much expectation then you’re the reason for your own disappointment. No musician/performer can please every fan. If he sang every song in his catalogue it still wouldn’t be enough for some fans. I know when I go to a show I’m not going to hear every song that he’s released in the past or present or even like every song, but I also don't draw the conclusion that he may never sing a particular song that I like, whether it is at a show I attend or not. I make the experience of each show work for me, and not go in with delusional expectations.

One truth is, that there's always room for improvement in everything and everyone, because no one nor is anything perfect. You get inspiration and growth from constructive criticism, whereas complaining about the same thing/same person over and over again, just ends up being a continuous broken record leading to nowhere. You can either choose to move on or continue driving yourself nuts, obsessively drowning in your washed-up complaints, as no one is holding you prisoner as a Prince fan.

Sidenote: I'm done with this conversation on this thread, so that the thread could stay on topic. You can respond on the thread Rodeoschro set up.

i have 2 disagree with u on two things only and they will be brief:

hearing the music via another forum can effect u since this is what music is all about in the 1st place. neither of us are in the studio with prince when he's recorded his great legacy but we've all been drawn 2 it in some form or another. whether it might have been a concert, radio, tv whatever, we felt that connection. i wasn't present at the recording of the small club aftershow but damn did that show kick ass! so u can be moved or dismoved without being present.

2ndly, i still don't frown on those that go 2 the shows and have good time or not. i have been 2 many shows and stood by someone pissed off cause janet didn't do the pleasure principal or a prince fan pissed off after witnessing a great show he did in 94 at the pallidum and he didn't do little red corvette. mind u lenny kravitz had jumped up on the stage and u were witnessing history but 4 her, it was all about LRC and the PR era. so now that's me in a way knowing that he can put on a fantastic show and having heard every single song he did during this perfomance in another setting.

music is music and either u feel it or u don't. all my "gripes" are based solely on the music and forever will be. there are no personal jabs i throw at anyone that has had a good time at these shows.

so in closing, it's been said and i'll reiterate it, everyone has a opinion and should be able 2 share their viewpoints positive or negative. if someone responds 2 my posts i will answer that back.

man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

I was hoping I could post the twitter photos here but the links don't work lol.

And I can't seem to figure out out to write ~underneath~ a photo link. Bear with me.

Pulled these photos from twitter and made an album in photobucket.

His outfit looks Parade era.

Was a total "black and white" theme with everyone on stage.

His first suit looked SHARP! It was the asymetrical one with a high collar shirt and silky soft looking pocket square. I kept trying to get a better look on the monitor of his shoes as they appeared to be (!!) regular men's dress shoes? No wedge? But I can't say for sure.

His next outfit was a white pantsuit with a jacket that had the contrasting line down the arms. I've seen the same jacket in other colors but this was b/w for the dress theme. I can attest (as everyone else in view of a monitor!) that Princey boy was indeed commando! Those white pants don't leave anything to the imagination!

Halfway through the encores he changed into the Andy Versace shirt but keeping the pants. He was wearing a glittery wedge for both white outfits.

Andy was dangerously close to showing camel toe in her white pants. All the girls looked great. Shelby sporting thigh high boots that were very sexy but I'm not sure how one does night after night in them!

She looks great but all I can think of is how Prince used to dress Mayte haha...he's definitely changed her style up A LOT since she joined NPG. She was very tomboyish with looser close before touring with him

And Prince trying to teach the Canadian crowd to dance Lol, brilliantly funny! Must admit the whole band looked proper SMART. Andy & Shelby looked fabulous in the clip...& Prince? Watch out, he doin the Dolphin look....swoon & thud! Any smelling salts please? wink
