Digital Cameras/I-Pods allowed in Prince's concerts?

Hey guys,

I'm seeing Prince next week, his Welcome 2 Canada tour & I was wondering if we could bring digital cameras or I-Pods to take pictures of his show ?

Thanks !

Gotta keep the funk alive !

They always say that they are not allowed, but people always bring them anyways! So if you see people taking pics just take yours out and snap away! Just remember to be careful biggrin

Yea, I'd definitely would bring mine! You wouldn't want to miss out biggrin I didn't bring mine to a concert before and it turned out everyone basically brought theirs and snapped away like crazy! Nonetheless, I felt like crap that I missed out lol

Prince is okay with us waving them around for certain songs. Hope that answers your question.

By worse, do you mean that sercurity was more strict towards the stage or that they didn't care at all?

They're like angry dogs. I was at Saturday's show, table seats & was threatened to be throw out for taking a pic of MY OWN DAUGHTER, my back was to the stage. I showed him the pics on my camera (at this point I hadn't taken any of Prince, that came later) still he said "if i see you take it out again, you'll be thrown out WITHOUT your camera)!!!!!!

I'll never book floor seats again, for this reason alone. It totally spoilt the show & atmosphere for us sad

That's horrible!!! That's one thing I don't get about the man, I mean people are paying to come to see you! So I don't get why he's sooo strict on that confused I could understand if he's out in public but during a CONCERT!!! Look I LOVE Prince, but come on now headache

Honestly that kinda puts me off on the idea of ever buying a V.I.P. table and that is soooo disappointing sad

Having a statement that reads No cameras or recording equipment allowed on any concert ticket is a totally outdated and pointless rule.

The huge number of people who now have mobile telephones with integrated digital cameras and video capture has now made it almost impossible and pointless for concert security to police.

I have noticed that the gigs I have attended over the last few years have more and more people taking photos and filming with not only phones, but proper cameras. The last Erykah Badu show I was at, there were people there with DSLR's snapping away, right in front of security.

What are security going to do, confiscate every single phone with a camera? Granted, some concert security are more strict than others and will try to stop people filming/shooting pics etc, but it's a very futile action.

I have taken pictures at almost every single gig I have been to (and that's over 100 shows) and I have to say, it's a hundred times easier now than it was years ago.

Take your camera, and snap away, so long as you don't wave it in a security guards face, you will be ok.

Exactly, if you have a normal run of the mill concert seat you would be able to take all the pictures you could ever need.

Yes, I don't know what happened on Saturday night. Friday was pictures ok but no flash, and I had some difficulties to get in on Saturday because of my camera... When I argued that he won't refuse the access to the Iphones and Blackberries, he said "yes, but that's different". What's different ? Some people can make you blind with the light on the Iphone when they take pictures. Just kidding, but sometimes the light is very strong.

What is really making me upset is that I won't share any of my pictures, except with people I know and trust. I surely don't know if I will ever see Prince live again after the Canadian tour, and I need these little souvenirs. And I don't video, there is Youtube if I want to see.

But.. In the same time... people that are shooting every 30 seconds are really annoying me. Do they take the time to really enjoy the show...

It seemed to me at the afterparty last night that if Prince hid during all the set, that might have been because of the cameras, and I won't blame him for that, I can understand, I could not count the people around me who had constantly an Iphone/Blackberry/Cameras on their hand. Addicted society with addicted people...

I'll never buy VIP seating again. I usually get VIP floor seats but as i took my kids, i thought a table would be easier all round.

The security completely spoilt the show for us. I know they're just doing what they're told but they were all soooo angry & rude. MY OWN CHILD????

I'll also never leave NY to see him live again.

To sit so close to someone you've admired for so long & not take a picture? SIt in your seat & not dance??? Not possible!

VIP Floor seats? If so, they're tight (not as bad as the table though, i hope). The bowl is the best place to be for pics.

You can't beat floor seats for dancing though, which is what its really all about.

You'll have a blast either way!

Hi Guys

Back to the O2 London residency. Cameras got more and more banned as time went on. First visit I took a few no problems (my avatar), by the third or fourth visit they were checking bags on the way in. They couldn't confiscate phones but cameras were bein taken for collection on the way out. So my advice would be, take a good mobile with a good camera facility and turn the flash off (flashes rarely reach the stage and usually just mess up your exposure settings anyhoo).

At the O2 there were pre show messages on the screens: something like "no cameras, for your memory only". P was more than aware of the "issue" one night he sang the line "take a picture", posed then said "maybe not" and carried on.

Also the on stage dancing faded as the residency progressed; maybe they had a bad experience one night.

Now to court controvesy (that's be a good name for a song/album!) I think the camera ban is OK with me. Go to or watch and gig, especially with a teen/twenties audience and no one is getting down and dancing, they're all (esp at the front) just stood with cameras and mobiles above their heads. At least with the ban we feel the need to be suropticious about it and not do it all the time so you get in to the gig more. I know I'm of an age but I just couldn't imagine those Pistols gigs working back in the late 70's early 80's if we all had cam corders above our heads, that's not what a gig is.

I better get off this horse, its way too high already

Welcome to the dawn

Security tried to tell us to sit & some a***hole behind me with a YSL handbag on his knee, also asked!!!! Suckers, their requests only made me dance more smile

They don't kick you out (at least not us) but they do give the 'glares' but i kinda got off on those smile

yes on nov. 26 at ACC i had floor seats and was warned sternly about taking pictures. i saw security constantly patrolling the area so i put my camera away. i used my cell phone but the pics are pretty shyte! also saw a few confiscated cameras people were picking up after both shows.

You'll have memories without photo's. maybe even better ones because you can focus on the stage instead of on the screen of rour camera.
