I don't think I'm going to do any holiday again this year. In stead I'll spend my money on music festivals.

Last year the North Sea Jazz Festivall was superb. I really want to go again this year. So, that will be beginning of July.

I'm also thinking about going to the Monetreux Jazz Festival. I've never been there, however, it seems so inspiring and has a grand history.

And that is also in the first two weeks of July.

What shall I do?

And what other festivals do I have to go to 2012? Anybody got good advice for me?

I was at Umbria Jazz festival this year, it was fantastic.

One of my favorite festivals in Europe is Roskilde Festival. It has so many different acts - small undiscovered acts and the big ones like our man Prince - so there is something for everyone. And right now the rumour is Bruce Springsteen will play next year!! And the cool thing about Roskilde is that it's non-profit. Everything they make goes to charity

but that one is also in the first week of July.

Ive also been thinking about going to Hop Farm - but that one is also in the first couple of weeks of July (can't remember when.)

There is nothing better than the music festivals during the summer here in Europe.

I love festivals! The whole camping thing, variable weather conditions, the fans, going smelly and unwashed for several days

I personally recommend Download Festival though it probably helps if you like heavy metal lol! The atmosphere and friendliness of metal fans is second to none

Metal really is not my thingy. So, I might skip that one.

I also love festivals. Maybe I can get myself to go to Lowlands in Holland again this year. It's great, however, very expensive and sold out in one day. There's also classical music, theatre, dance and all kind of small initiatives. Very nice.

And ofcourse I want to have been at to Glastonbury once too. And Bestifal. So, maybe I'll do the UK festivals this year.

And the festival of festivals, burning man. However, that's not in Europe. And needs a lot of planning.

And the Jam at the dam overhere in Amsterdam in march is also great. Allthough boyfriend called it a lot of 'guitarnoodling' so hope to convince him. However, it is very expensive to get a pass for all three days.

Well, clearly to many to go and see for my wallet. Have to start making choices.

Well, if anybody near the Umbria festival wants a house swap to Amsterdam (or London) and get two persons to the festival, I keep myself recommended. It would be great to go there with London boyfriend and celebrate his birthday (30 december) and be together in Italy.

A friend of mine went to Sziget and she really liked it. Also because eventhough it means traveling to Budapest, the price of food and drinks and tickets are cheaper, and in the end your cheaper off than going to Lowlands.

And I also like the international vibe of Sziget. However, what I like about Lowlands is that it's all ages. And Sziget seems to generate a real 'young' audiance. Similar to Pinkpop in Holland.

I also like Montreux, and if I would be rich, I would go to both.

However, now I'm into the idea of the Umbria Winter festival. That would be great. Nobody around here from that area?

If u'r looking 4 a smaller festival: Cactus Festival @ Bruges (Brugge), on the second weekend of july, in a beautifull garden,...

Or a big one : Rock Werchter (1st weekend of july)

I'm going to investigat the Cactus festival. Brugge is near, and I like Belgium.

At all the Italian concerts I ever went to in my life it was extremely hard to find local people who I could talk to as they usually don't speak any English or German or French.

I really hoped I could do a houseswap with somebody in Perugia. Because the winter jazz festival over there seems so nice and ultimate romantic! London boyfriend his birthday is the 30th and I just thought it would be so cool to celebrate that at the Jazz festival.

In stead I'm going to Londonboy his house and we will see the abfab christmas edition, the documentary about Prince and Purple Rain. He recorded those, so we could see them together. And that's cool too. Also, the plane tickets are expensive. So, if we plan ahead, we might get book in advance, so we can get the affordable tickets to Perugia. And we have a year to find somebody in Perugia who would want to go stay in London or Amsterdam during that Jazz festival.

Did you go to Sziget festival or only to the Prince concert? Because, I can't really say I've seen Rock Wherchter to be honest. I can only claim I have seen Prince perform at Werchter. And it was awsome However, I would not be able to say anything about the usual festival crowd. Did you see the Sziget crowd and the Prince crowd? Or just the Prince crowd?

I also haven't discussed it with boyfriend yet. I don't know where he will be for his work this summer, so it also depends on that.

Are you already skiing overthere? How's the snow?

I went to the Prince concert and to the one of Ana Moura the next day as Prince said he would be there too . I cannot say much about the Sziget festival as I did not camp there like many people do, but stayed with a Hungarian friend in his apartment together with a couple of friends of mine. I was lucky as I got a free ride with 2 friends from Vienna to Budapest and another one with another friend from Budapest back to Vienna and could stay with yet another friend in Budapest . And I met some other friends at the show too .

BTW I once saw Prince in Werchter too, but that was in 1990 .

No snow here yet. It's the first time in 3 years that I am here in Austria in November, it feels strange somehow....

U saw Prince at Werchter but that was NOT the Rock Werchter Festival. The Rock Werchter Festival is much bigger.

U saw Prince at Werchter but that was NOT the Rock Werchter Festival. The Rock Werchter Festival is much bigger.

That was Werchter boutique I was there for Prince and Madonna (year before P)

I used to do Werchter, Pukkelpop and Leffingeleuren (also Belgium) each year

but ever since last august, the pukkelpop storm I am not sure I emotionally CAN.

Still not over the experience of being in that storm and seeing things you normally don't see at a festival... I hope I can find my festival fever back before summer starts that's 4 sure.

I hope Prince will show up in Europe somewhere during 2012!

WOW. Yes, I can imagine. That was a very traumatic experience for those who were there. I can imagine some people are left with PTSD, just from witnessing it.

Maybe you should at least try one festival? That might help you with dealing with the Pukkelpop drama. So you can experience positive festival vibes again.

Truly hope you can still enjoy festivals in 2012. Despite that horrific momentum.
