I wrote this in another thread

He rocks onstage and has so much energy and talent. I already knew this of course for years, but seeing it in person is great. My view was very good, not too far from the stage though not on the ground either. I kept thinking it was him coming out of the stage when it was his musicians, but when he did, I was just like, damn that's prince! He was moving around so well and had on his glasses and curly hair and I was so into it for the first 3 songs and on my feet the whole time. He kept introducing his band but I kept cheering in his direction. I love his spins and shuffles and energizer bunny moves lol

I'm so glad he did older songs, this is exactly what I wanted to see at a Prince tour and it worked.

I was so happy to see the DSTYGE mj tribute and was singing along all emotional, hoping Prince could spot me lol

Kiss blew me away, I was screaming and nearly emotional during the breakdown at the end with how he danced.

The medley was great, but When Doves Cry needed to be done on it's own, honestly. Little Red Corvette was reworked so well and so sexy, I almost didn't recognize it.

It was amazing to see Jungle Love, Nasty Girl and Play That Funky Music included in the show. The audience was really jamming to the older songs and I was impressed cause most people act like they are into today's music more, but a lot of these people didn't look much older than me....or look good for their age. Excuse me if I sound ageist, but I guess I was happy to see all the support.

And the man is a tease, I kept thinking the show is over and people kept leaving cause he would disappear, but then he would return to do more songs and do the same thing lollol does he do this regularly or was it cause of opening night ?

Want to hear something funnier? I would look at the screen and be like OMG it's Prince, and look at him in person and feel like he's a human being though we know it, duh, but it wasn't occuring to me later on in the show it's the same person though I know it , I guess I was excited.

And who here got confetti...I scored a gold one from the purple ones that were shot up

[Edited 11/26/11 2:25am]

i guess u had written this 4 the original thread? thanks 4 taking the time to repost, sounds like u had an amazing time! i'm sooooo jealous of u right now!!

how many other reviews & banter have been lost cuz the original thread was deleted.. was that really necessary?

so anyway, where's all the pics?!! did he sing extraloveablee?

Didn`t know about all that happening, I only posted it in the thread about first reactions to seeing Prince in concert (any concert). It was a good night, are you planning to go, it`s really worth it

If he sang that song, I don`t know it since there were a few I didn`t recognize or was hearing for the first time. I had no proper camera with me, just the phone lol

I was also at MSG last January and found that show a little more unpredictable and satisfying from a set list perspective BUT he played forever last night and the extended dance parties were a gas. And The Cars "Let's Go" sounded amazing.

It was my 14th show, so I am always looking for a new song or a different take on an old song. Little Red Corvette was slowed down, drawn out and totally stunning with guitar work and a call and response with the audience. If he does that version all tour people are in for a treat.

Overall, tickets prices were steep, but he almost played two shows worth last night.

Why does he keep refusing to play "She's Always in My Hair" and "Shh" at the concerts I go to? Maybe London Dec 5? Please smile

Other than that small complaint, last night was epic.

well that's lucky then! i'd be furious if i'd made the effort 4 the original thread!..

no i haven't planned to see any of the canadian shows, if i'm honest i'm still princed out from all the european gigs lol

it's cool he sang million days.. i read somewhere he did extraloveable, but this is obviously not true.

if i'm honest so disappointed he didn't do it! he needs to!

Tireless Prince launches Canadian tour

By Jane Stevenson ,QMI Agency
http://www.torontosun.com...adian-tour

When it comes to concerts, there are tireless performers, and then there is Prince.

His Purpleless launched his Welcome 2 Canada tour on Friday night at the Air Canada Centre with the first of two shows - and it was a whopper.

Would you believe a three-hours-10-minutes-long concert, with six encores?

Let’s put it this way, the marathon display of funky, fun music and dancing wasn’t for the weakhearted.

In the first show of his first multi-city Canadian trek since 2002, Prince just couldn’t seem to stop.

Appearing from beneath his mammoth in-the-round stage in the shape of his famous symbol - all lit up in different colors as the evening progressed - the 53-year old musician took a good 35 minutes before he even strapped on his guitar.

Instead, he preferred to bust some major James Brown-like dance moves for the show’s first half-hour, briefly dipping into hits like Pop Life but definitely favouring extended jams.

“Toronto I have a question,” said Prince early in the show. “Are you feeling good?”

They roared their approval early and often.

About 14,000 fans, many dressed in purple, were able to see Prince in all his sparkly haired glory decked out in a flowing black top, pants, heels, sunglasses and a chunky necklace on large rectangular screens above him while those sitting at circular tables on the floor got a much closer look.

But he’s not totally without weakness.

You could also see the various teleprompters with song lyrics all around the stage.

Backed by a mostly female group of musicians and singers, save for his drummer and sax player Maceo Parker, Prince also covered such ‘80s hits as The Cars’ Let’s Go and Michael Jackson’s Don’t Stop Till You Get Enough, alongside his own chartoppers like Take Me With U, Raspberry Beret, and Cream.

And for a cover of The Time’s Cool, The Purple One dragged about 20 people from the crowd up on stage with him to dance while he himself jumped on his purple piano. (He would do this again during his cover of The Time’s The Bird and Jungle Love and Wild Cherry’s Play That Funky Music during the third encore).

Then things slowed down considerably as he gave one of his female backup singers the lead vocal on a cover of The Beatles’ Yesterday before taking over himself with another female backup singer on his own Nothing Compares To U, famously covered by Sinead O’ Connor.

But, it didn’t take him long to revert back to the big dance hits like Let’s Go Crazy, Delirious, 1999, an extended version of Little Red Corvette and U Got the Look, before he disappeared beneath the stage for his first costume change into a high collared gold smock top with a new diamond necklace.

He expertly wielded a guitar for his signature song, Purple Rain, which prompted the explosion of purple confetti towards the end of the tune during his solo and then a major crowd singalong.

For the first encore, Prince - in his third outfit of the night, a white tunic with ties and black and white pants - kicked things off with Kiss, and then disappeared briefly to appear back in front of his piano for the second encore featuring a medley of When Doves Cry, Sign O’ The Times, The Most Beautiful Girl In the World, Hot Thing, I Would Die For You, and If I Was Your Girlfriend.

The third encore began slowly with Sometimes It Snows in April before another communal crowd dance on stage.

Then, unbelievably, it was onto encores four, five and six.

At some point, you started to wonder if Prince would ever leave.

Before fans were allowed inside the arena, Prince did a late soundcheck and someone in building shouted out: “Love You Prince!”

He screamed back: “Not as much as I love you!”

Prince certainly showed T.O. a lot of love on Friday night. And then some.

Other than what I described earlier about the afterjam, P didn't perform onstage again at the afterjam, but he did sing overtop of the intro of Let's Work. Then he and the NPG filed out. An insider informed me that sat nite's afterjam is a full-on afterjam! U snooze u lose.

Purpleelectricity is amazing!

The tourbook had photos of the tour and a couple of others I think, as well as of the NPG band members and random messages and quotes, but tbh, it wasn`t anything special. It would have been nicer if it was a tourbook highlighting his whole career since this is clearly a hits tour.

Read your thread about whether seeing Prince live would convert u. Didn't know you were from TO! I saw every show he did in Toronto since 1988... this is the first one I missed, cuz I don't live there anymore sad Looks like a kickass show as usual.. wish i had been there!!!

nice that he did a million days now if only he would do more current stuff and drop the covers down and the hits down

man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

Is the picture in the article from the show yesterday??? Can someone answer that one please, cause that would mean Sheila E. was there!!!

Another question, in the setlist it's written Darling Nikki and on the side it's written w/lyrics.. does that mean he actually sang it?

Yeah, I love Graffiti Bridge movie, so what? ''Oooooooooooh Montreal, say it!''

He started at 9pm. Finished at 12:15am.

They are taking down the stage tonight so he may start earlier - it was a 8:30pm start in NYC earlier this year.

He does not actually play Darling Nikki...........he turns it into a little joke with the audience. Just the opening chords.........
