Aftershow @ Ame - Discuss Here

So, it says Marla Joy will be singing and that DJ Rashida will be there. All this for a mere 60.00!

Maybe nobody is commenting because nothing happened. I finally left at 2:45am, along with Shelby. I don't even know if Prince was still there...

He played 2 minutes on guitar with the band, and Shelby sang a song. I know there's no guarantee for a performance, but it still feel like a ripoff.

Yeah, someone on Facebook said he didn't perform at the Aftershow sad I'd be pretty upset & dissappointed if I had tickets… the "flyer" said Prince and the NPG, and Prince said he'd be at the After Jam on the radio interview that morning. One would have expected him to do a set at least.

y'all got an over 3h during mainshow and y'all are still complaining he didn't perform at an afterPARTY

when he's in Europe we know the difference between a PARTY/JAM and an AFTERSHOW

u can also know the difference when u see the price wink 100 euro's is a standard for aftershows in Europe

Him not playing at the aftershow somehow made sense to me. I might get killed by anyone but he wasn't good at the main show except a few highlights, Million Days or Let's go or Cool or... I wanted to blame it all on the sound crew but even his guitar didn't appeal to me. But he tried to accommodate people with many encores. I want him some rest and show me he is Prince tonight.

but you are forgetting that during his interview on chumfm he stated that he would be at the aftershow and made it sound like he would be performing. i'm sure after that interview lots of people bought tickets.

DJ Rashida said he was playing Saturday and that he just wanted to throw an afterparty on Friday and not play. It was a fun night if you were up for more dancing and not just getting Prince glimpses.

Thank God for what I experienced tonight : I could hear Prince but couldn't get to see him. I was trying to sneak on every corner to get closer to the stage, but he was nowhere to be seen. And then, a guy told me where he was. Prince was sitting next to the DJ, on a coach in front of the back kitchen, turning his back to the audience. God, we were just a few to look at him, he was just one meter from me. Unforgettable night, especially when he stood up, and we had an eye contact for like two seconds.

Groupie stuff apart, the place was crowded, people could get in without the presale ticket, for 100 $. The show started around 1.30am : Julie Black, Divine Brown, and then the NPG with Maceo Parker. Good vibes all night.

Well... maybe he spent some time on stage as well, but since the tall ones take the first rows and don't leave the chance for the smallers ones to have a view, I can't tell, I couldn't manage to see the stage yesterday. At least I had my magic moment for a quarter of an hour, standing so close to him, and honestly, this is the only moment I want to recall from that afterparty, because just before knowing where he was, I was about to leave, tired of being pushed by big guys who don't care to hide the view to others, and the sound was way too high, that was insane... Not my kinda stuff anymore...

A quick review...

Prince didnt make it to the stage, which was kind of funny because everyone was squashed in at the front trying to see him up there. I walked back to the bar about halfway through and there he was with his mic standing by the dj with only a few people around him. I got quite a kick out of saying to my wife "hey look at that guy there next to the dj", and there was prince staring straight back at her just a few feet away.

Before his band came on he was saying stuff over the PA and to be honest I dont think anyone had any clue that it was Prince on the mic... he kept saying "where is Prince?!!". He said something like "who was at the concert tonight? ... who was NOT at the concert tonight? well you better just get drunk then" ... it was funny, because I just dont think people knew it was him chatting away.

I've been to a few aftershows before and this seemed really unplanned, which was nice. They came on at about 2:30am (or maybe later) and played for roughly an hour.

He played a bunch of the usual covers (Sly songs, JBs), musicology was played and he played The Jacksons 'I want You Back'. He did a bit of singing throughout... not too much though, he sounded a bit horse... he would do few beatbox type grooves for the band to follow and he started the jacksons cover by singing the bass line.

It was not a 'classic' aftershow ... but it was a fun night.

I went to only the Saturday night show and afterparty. We were right against the stage while NPG was performing, and it was amazing! Prince didn't perform. Jully Black, Glenn Lewis, and Divine were all amazing, we have some serious talent in Toronto!!. DJ Rashida kept things funky, and Prince MC'd from beside the DJ booth. I had the time of my life!!!!!

As we were leaving, so were the NPG and we grabbed autographs, and got pictures with all the ladies of NPG! They are all a great group of people =)

Prince was at both Afterjams! On Friday, he just played guitar on 1 of Marla Joy's songs and then sang an improvised intro verse 2 Let's Work that Rashida was spinning. On Saturday, many dumb patrons didn't heed the warnings by security at the door that cameras and picture-taking were forbidden, then P himself told people 2 stop taking photos, they didn't, so he refused 2 go on-stage, opting 2 do the full performance hidden away over by the DJ booth. He DID sing, at least on Musicology; the rest was call-and-response and NPG-hyping. We got the legendary Maceo Parker performing, so that made the xperience fully worth it.

while i love his purpleness. and i get that it is his privacy, he really needs to get over it with the picture taking. he has to realize that we are fans and of course would want to take his pic. i can see how it would be hard in an intimate venue to perform with flashbulbs going off constantly, but if that is the case just designate one song where we could go wild.

cripes - is he worried about leftover food on his face or caught in his 'stache. razz

the whole security shining the light in your face as he is entering or exiting is quite ridiculous.

we were in vegas when he was performing one year. he went to pure nightclub after his show and yep, security not only pushed me out of the way like i was a linebacker (i am the same size as prince) but shone the light directly in my face. forget a pic, i could barely see what was in front of me.

Well he didnt step on the stage .... he did his thing from the side of the venue while his band was on the stage, it was a bit weird, but still fun to be there.

The first evening, Prince only showed up to riff unenthusiastically to a Rocksteady cover by Marla Joy. His back was to the audience the whole time. On stage for under five minutes.

On the second night, he directed the band from offstage for about an hour. He cut off the performance very abruptly, and even the band looked confused. Tech packed up quick and everyone left in a hurry.

And he charged $100 at the door per night for this. Brutal reminder of what an arrogant jerk he can be.

I think you're both getting a little overheated... I paid $60 to get in, saw 3 bands ... I had a fun night of music and djs. Maybe you are setting your expectations a little too high before you even walk in the door. If you think he's an arrogant jerk then why the hell would you put yourself through 2 aftershow nights in the first place?!! Just go to the main concert and end it there.

Some of you kids are so angry about everything.
