My post about the Dublin gig

I haven't posted on this forum for close on 5 years, but I feel compelled to do so after the experience in Dublin on sat night. It was, in short, the best gig, of any artist, that I have ever been to.

Sure, I am not a veteran of the number of shows that people here are. I have only seen Prince 3 times in total. But that should not take away from the fact that I felt part of something very special on Saturday night. From the moment he walked out on stage there was a feeling in the air that this was going to be special.

There are moments in music when magic happens, when the energy from the stage and the crowd combine to produce something you cant explain, something intangible. Everything seems to click. The right songs hit at the right time. The inprovs, the solos, the interaction, and the response from the crowd is spot on. Everything feels unique, spontaneous, yet so tight that it seems to have been rehearsed a thousand times. That’s what Saturday was....or at least seemed to be. It was a celebration in the truest sense of the word.

The set list has been discussed and debated elsewhere, but suffice to say, if you were there...living it...each new song intro provoked a great reaction from the crowd...a sense of "yesss!", "I cant believe he is playing this!", and "I don’t want this to stop!" all rolled into one. I was not in the pit, but I can tell you those around me did not stop dancing and getting down for the whole show. I have rarely, if ever, seen that at a gig.

For me, hearing Purple Rain, LRC and my all time favourite song IIWYG live was something I could only dream about a couple of years ago.

I went to the gig with friends of mine who would have only a passing interest in Prince and are regular gig goers. Hard to please. They LOVED it. They were actually buzzing coming away from it and it made me so proud to be a Prince fan.

Thanks Prince. I fell back in love with your music all over again on Saturday

Yes - great post. I felt the same after the Hop Farm gig in UK. I'm 41 and have seen Prince many many times(20 +) over the years and it was as you described here too. I think he should do more festivals/outdoor shows because the energy of what I saw was amazing. And the sound quality was amazing. It was special.

If Prince did Glastonbury he can't imagine what it would do for his reputation in the UK(in a very good way!)

Great post - just about summed it all up, the feelings and emotions and the atomospere. It doesn't matter if u have seen him a hundred times or ten or just once, the only thing that matters is how it makes YOU feel at that moment, that time - no-one can take that away from you, and I kno we may be biased as Prince fans but it takes a very special, talented kind of person to make you feel THAT much, this kind of thing doesn't happen often and we should be glad that we were there to witness and be part of it.

Hear hear!! It was simply out of this world! Prince took me to the moon & back on Saturday night.

Haven't stopped dancing about or singing since. U want to have seen the looks I was getting in the supermarket singing- Slow Down! ha ha! Bent my mother's ear today for hours talking about my old Prince days, concerts etc.

Dont think this high will ever go away.....

Many thanks to Prince, yet again.

I know people are getting pissed about the number of Dublin threads (but are we not all here for the same reason?), but this sums the feeling up. I have been so happy and positive since Saturday night. The concert was AMAZING, he looked so happy and I think that was sensed by the crowd. Shame there was not 2 nights, but then maybe he would have held back a little. I have also been singing Slow Down alot.

I showed my daughters some of the videos I have downloaded from youtube of Saturday, and they were again in awe of him and said they could feel the vibe of the whole night.

There are some brill videos on the facebook page http://www.facebook.com/g...p_activity

the top one of Gold was recorded by my cousin - there's a bit where he turns around and you can see me nipping my friend Valerie and mfcuker (my brother) it's so funny - I had Val black and blue nipping her at the O2 gigs - it was a wee 'purple moment' so amazing. It's incredible the instant joy you feel as soon as you watch those videos - takes you to the purple place straight away. Incredible!

Nah nah na...Hold on to your wigs!
