Gold?? Wow! Did he play it in the real version? Meanig sounding somewhat like the CD and full? Or did he change it?

Complete song, killer opening. With golden confetti from the roof. My jaw fell open when i heard the first tunes, but he actually played the entire song. The later in the show I had another 'jaw' moment with It's gonna be a beautiful night...but unfortunately that was only a snippet... After GOLD I knew it would be a beautiful night though..

It was the full version without the guitar solo at the end as we know from the CD.

Still can't get it out of my head, all morning I sing Gold and picture the Ahoy under golden confetti rain, Golden confetti rain to open the show, that's surprising and "Gold" was very pleasing.

All that glitters, all that glitters, all that glitters.. ain't gold

Na na na na na na na (Gold)
Na na na na na na na (Gold)

Na na na na na na na (Gold)
Na na na na na na na (Gold)

Na na na na na na na (Gold)
Na na na na na na na (Gold)

All that glitters ain't gold, gold, gold (Na na na na na na na)
All that glitters ain't gold, gold, gold (Na na na na na na na)
All that glitters ain't gold !!!!!!!!!!!!!

After diehard material during NSJ, I felt fine with a greatest hit show.

LittleRedCorvette version so fine,

Prince kissing Andy on the cheek during PurpleRain like he kissed Wendy in the film/video in '84.

Loved Prince (funny faces) on small keyboard (also while plaing guitar).

We didn't get guitarrock, but the way Prince was backing up The Bird and JungleLove, I love it when his solo's are played too back up a song. Hope you see what Imean, being Jungle Love theme the main music line, and Prince totally afreakin' in the back, that was really amazing guitarplaying in the end !!!!

Loved it.

As a dutchman have to complain about something.....Why is Andy holding a guitar on stage ??? She doesn't add anything to the NPG musically as far as I'm concerned, she can sing ok, but I'm not blown away by here singing, she has a lovely smile, specialy when she is in contact with Prince, but most of the times looks pretty borred to me, but hey, I'm looking at Prince anyway and she seems to bring out the best in Prince these days, so Andy, keep it up,

(as far as I'm concerned haha have to protect my opinion lol )

Andy, leave guitar and your crayons in the hotel. biggrin and improve your back-up singing

From Telegraaf.nl:

"Het eerste uur raast voorbij. Prince haalt publiek op het podium, speelt voor het eerst in tijden weer eens Let's Work, doet een dansje tijdens Kiss -er wordt zelfs een spagaat gesignaleerd, hoe lang is dat geleden? "

Can anyone confirm this?

I don't believe it because it's from The Telegraaf.

Have a look at 'The W2A: Euro Tour Song Survey' http://prince.org/msg/12/362417

Loved the opening although it was a stripped down version of "Gold"...

After that it was the same lame boring hits show, but that's what his tours are about nowadays; he's a vegasy nostalgia act, who only displays good enough shows for fans in smaller clubs although overpriced...

This was like Hop Farm lite (and Hop Farm was boring as shit...) but with "Chocolate" thrown in the mix...

The second night in Amsterdam was the real shit though... Too bad that freak ass "VIP Wristband" belgian dude didn't show up again to try to get backstage, that would have made it perfect and again hilarious to watch his pathetic attempts...

Hear! Hear! Yes I wonder too...you could have known that after the 2 1/2 very special NSJ shows and 2 brilliant Melkweg shows this would be the grande Hits finale. And with Gold, Chocolate and the Let's Work version he made it a treat for die hards like myself. I can hear Kiss/LRC and Time songs 1000 times, they never bore me. It's always about with what kind of pleasure and energy he performs them, if the energy is there (and it was last night!) then he can play whatever song he feels like. You have to be aware that 80% of the people in the bigger venues don't go out and see him 9+ times in a year like we had a change to do so...(benelux)..There were a lot of 'young' people there also for there first or second time. And they deserve the same experience we had 20 years ago, at least. So it's your own negative overdose if you feel like this is getting boring. I must say I was overwhelmed by Prince being still the only artist that has the entire stadium jump up & down and dancing their feet off (and I see many many others to compare). Everytime I go home after a show I have to admit he's still the very very best.

And i said it after Arnhem and will say it again: playing time songs to end the show is a let down to me. I like these songs and am okay with them being played, but there should be better ways to round things up.

Agreed! I love those The Time tracks very much, and I get a great kick out of them whenever he plays them, but they are not as wellknown as his own hits. And therefore less suitable to end an arena show with.

He should have played Jungle Love and The Bird before ending the show with Controversy IMO...

Well, I did know... After seeing the W2A NY and LA gigs and this festival/Eurotour and them being labeled as a hits deal (by his crew) it was pretty obvious...

And like I said my girlfriend like these kind of shows so I only go for her and because it doesn't cost me a dime...

roos said:

Yeah, really impressive, 2 songs amongst the same old same old... He's been playing "Let's Work" regularly on this and previous tours the last years...

Well, good for you, I'm bored by them no matter how excited he pretends to be...

Compare his energy and musicianship in these big crowd pleasing, non-fan, nostalgia gigs to his energy and musicianship in smaller clubs when he plays for fans and plays stuff he doesn't do every single night... The difference is very apparent... But if you like his greatst hits shows that's fine, my opinion is different...

Sorry that I expect more from an artist who has the skill to entertain and perform different sets every single night instead of greatest hits shows for the last 10+ years...

By your logic above he should have played a greatest hits show every single tour since he blew up just because there may be young people who haven't seen him play his hits... And there's a shitload of difference of Prince playing some hit songs 20(+) years ago to auto-pilot Prince playing only the same hit songs nowadays...

Good for you that you've enjoyed the show, I just think differently... I know, controversial nowadays in this world but still somewhat accepted...

Maybe it's just me but:

1. I thought the show was lacking any real structure, it's just to easy, sure prince can entertain but for me he can set his standards higher...i don't think he played anything really from his heart so to say...

2. I miss Horns...Eric, Maceo and other musicians like Sheila and Renato...the present bandmembers..i don't know..nothing great

3. No surprises in the show...only Gold..which was nice...but otherwise...a string of hits...fine..but really nothing great

4. In almost every song we have to hear ''clap your hands''...please..give us music not a work-out...

5. Why does he say 3 times he has to go....i mean really...we know he is gonna come back..its just doesn't add anything...

Maybe i should just stick to the aftershows and too bad i missed the shows of NSJ...

To many hits, to little hits.....whaaah he can't seem to do it right. Let's just agree these are very nice additions to the bigger Hitlist.

btw was this the first time he showed the classic vids on the screens before the show? Sure got me in the mood and loved seing those hilarious big shoulderpads... and ladyGaga sure studied mazarati for her looks!

That order would've been better. After the 2 melkweg shows it was obvious this show would be like this. Still Gold and Chocolate were a nice treat. Had he not done the 2nd melkweg show there might've been more guitar specialities tonight. Still it was nice. And the most excited crowd I've seen in a long time at one of his shows.
About the guitar, does anyone know why he regularly flicks his left arm when he's playing? Is it a trick/gimmick/turned into habbit, or is it old age, stiffness near RSI?

I don't care what anybody says, I loved the show, he played GOLD!!! It was on my wish list it's been too long since I last heard it live (Den Bosch 1994 or 1995 can't remember) Could've done without the Time songs but hey it's nice biggrin

Maybe the beginning of the show was his way of saying ´thank you Holland´!
It is his 5th show in less than a year over there (if you don't count Melgwek shows) and all the time dutch people show up. It's nice.

Or then he is just trying out new ways to kick off. Like The love we make in Bergen last year.

But sounds very very happy beginning.

So if I understand right you have free access to mainshows aswell as surprise shows and you go to please your girlfriend -who isn't a fan- and to see old buddies....The music part is just a side-order? Then explain to me why you are here on the org cause that would mean you have some interest in the man's work, so therefor also his shows and do you have any idea how arrogant it sounds to say you have all the VIP privileges but you don't care shit about the shows while many of us would die for it? Next time don't go and pass that privilege forward to one of us who don't mind the hits. And we will take your girlfriend along, and dance and sing to that nostalgia crap with her...I volunteer!

"only Gold"? What about Chocolate and Let's Work?

As for 3 times saying he has to go etc. There are 10.000 people in the audience who don't go to every show of Prince in Europe. So for them 2 times coming back is simply a treat. Obviously that is not the case for the 1.000 so called die hard fans (that's us on this site). Every show of Prince that lasted shorter than 3 hours and with more than 1 song he played live before is just a lame, average attempt of Prince to entertain the audience...

Although the break before The Bird took too long - but the man needed to finish his sandwich and had to discuss with the band what was left for the Dutch audience of which some had already heard 78 different tracks in the recent shows in the Netherlands...

Still when he came back he made me ROTFLMYAO speaking through a megaphone "You're still here? They told us you'were going home, so we packed our stuff and went too!" That just made me laugh - oh sorry of course he did that already 15 times before this year.... so lame of Prince. Luckily I only attended the 6 shows in the Netherlands and thought that was just funny.
