Great pre-after-matinee show like,I don't know how to call it.
sometimes he was so 80's in his screams and gestures. When he started caressing his face like in the ole good years i thought, oh god, he'll start again: "snap your fingers very fast, u know what it is?" But he didn't
no freedom till we're equal, damn right I support it

And your Hop farm pics, amaaaaaaaaaazing, really, one great pic after another mushy thanks for all the effort. What this little man is capable of doing to us, isn't he?

Well, he didn't but you weren't the only one thinking of it. When he made everyone snap their fingers and said "I get a kick out of that"

What about the beauty of : Future Soul Song

That one worked out really really well with the audience, relaxed, very nice guitar and sing along : doo-bi-doo lalalalala this is the future soul song, this should become a live classic, LOVED IT !!!

Also saw People Pleaser on French television, where I found it borring, but this one turned out really nice, funky and swinging.

Also beside all die-hard loved tracks liked it to see and hear Sex isn't taboo anymore.

Dirty little Prince is moaning and whispering like in the old days. When I lay my hands on you was very hot !

Agreed, Future Soul Song was much better than on record, the band sounded great.

And during When I lay... did you see Prince doing the Darling Nikki 'hand-around-his-head-gesture (from the Purple Rain movie, while singing the first verse), caressing his face, while moaning and screaming?? Wow, never thought he would do anything like that anymore. razz

Yes I noticed that gesture, How freaky, we remember movements from the 80'ies biggrin

What about Shelby standing behind Prince during Nothing compares, when she reached over his shoulder and laid her hand on his chest, and Prince acted being shocked with big scarred open eyes (reminded me of 1986 Parade area?) Anyway, that scene was funny too

Passim

Hey everyone. i'm new around here, and wrote some thoughts about the show the following morning. Hope to see some of you on the 26th!

What an amazing show last night. I was in the first and second rows, on the far left side, facing the stage. The set list was bananas. I’ve seen Prince three times and they were all the greatest-hits style shows. No complaints there. Especially if you’ve never see Prince (or don’t know his body of work), you’re going to want a lot of hits. And he’s got a lot of them. But he skipped the hits for bulk of the main set last night. When “She’s Always in My Hair” is one of the best-known songs on the set list, you know it’s gonna be a beautiful night. What’s great is that you know Prince was playing music he actually wanted to play, rather than just going through the motions. “The One” and “When I Lay My Hands on U” were incredible. “Girl” was a wonderful surprise. So was “Partyman.” He really does have so many freaking great songs. I think the bulk of the crowd was hoping for hits and songs they could sing and dance to. From what I could see in the stands, there were some large portions of the crowd sitting down and that sort of thing. As soon as he started with the hits, they were on their feet, dancing and cheering. It was amazing to see how much people got into it when he started with the hits. It was like night and day. I kind of figured at that point we were going to get nothing but hits, but “Something in the Water Does Not Compute” was a surprise and a treat. Prince seemed to be in great spirits and enjoying himself.

That said, it was not the perfect concert, so here are some things I were less than thrilling. What was up with the overzealous security? They were freaking out the whole time over what seemed to be nothing. It was really arbitrary. They were hassling people for shooting footage with their cameras and phones, while others did the exact same thing without penalty. It was weird. Someone needs to find these guys something better to do than hassle a bunch of people trying to have fun at a rock concert. Also, whomever was running the lights needs to start paying attention. There were several times last night when Prince asked them to turn up/on the house lights, and they turned them down instead. There were also a number of times when there were effectively no lights on stage, when the band – and Prince – were playing in solid darkness. This wasn’t done to create a mood, this was just someone not doing their job. Hey, Prince is up there on stage singing a song. You think you might want to put a spotlight on him so we can see? Awful.

As for the concert itself, I can’t stand how every song Prince plays is basically a snippet, part of a large concert-length melody. He doesn’t play the full songs. I know you know this, but it really does suck. The other thing is that he lets the band have too much spotlight time. The gals du jour may be great singers, but there is not a single person here who paid to see them sing. Even Maceo got way too much time. These guys and gals should be taking a back seat to Prince, not being featured so often. And giving them entire songs is just ridiculous. I don’t want to hear someone’s karaoke version of “Brown Skin,” thanks. You have the Michael Jordan of music up there with a bunch of school kids. Who do you think we want to see and hear? I don’t think this is a matter of mere generosity on Prince’s behalf. He’s using them to cover parts of the songs that he either can’t or doesn’t want to do. Prince is an amazing performer for a guy his age, but he’s definitely getting a little older and slowing down a bit. The crazy energy of the band helps make up for the fact that he’s not exactly burning up the floor like he did years ago. He can’t sustain the focus physically, and unless he’s cranking out hits, in a large venue he can’t sustain attention with interesting music. I also noticed that he doesn’t wear high heels anymore. I imagine all of those years of dancing in heels have taken their toll. But it was another reminder that I was seeing a 50-something year-old performer and not the “kid” of yesteryear.

But this is nitpicking. It was an incredible set of music and Prince really killed it. This might be my favorite Prince show that I’ve seen, just because of the set list. What a nice run of three shows! I sure wish I had been able to attend the other nights because the combined set lists from these three shows would make any Prince fan envious. I will be there on the 26th, which I assume will be more of a hits style show. Too bad because I sure enjoyed hearing Prince step outside of the comfort zone for a night.
