If Prince is really planning what I think he is planning at the moment, I think it's genius.
A self-organised festival with asociated artist like:
- Janelle Monaé
- Chaka Khan
- Larry Graham
- Esperanza Spalding
- Maceo Parker
- Cee Lo Green
- The Roots
- (Stevie Wonder)
- (Sheila E.)
And of course Prince himself closing the list of artist at the end of the day.
Maybe he's trying a new kind of concept for the future?
Please explain why this would be "genius".
Well, he creates his own festival rather then being invited on an excisting one. Secondly, it sounds appealing that there will be artist who are influenced by Prince and also artists who influenced Prince himself. I think a lot of artists are willing to perform in this concept. I can imagine he'd make more money if he'd play at a real festival and gets paid up front, regardless of how many tickets they sell. Secondly, he'd have to pay those other acts now and depending on those names I'd say 90-95% of people are coming to see Prince. I don't see why this would be genius. No more genius than other promotors throwing together a festival and that's hardly something to be called genius. But I guess if Prince does something it's always revolutionary and genius to some people. We'll see how much of a success this will be. |

Success in the broadest sense of the word, not just monetarily, is always important. |

Well, if it stays with Mint Condition and Larry Graham, then yes you're right.
But the W2A tour also had artist like Alicia Keys, Stevie Wonder, Mary J. Blige and Gwen Stefani as support act and or joining Prince on stage. I think that could make a festival like this very appealing for a big public (of also non-Prince fans). |

Was the W2A really a festival? I had the impression it was Prince with a support act and every now and then a special guest. |

That leaves me puzzled still what to expect. People seem to have all kind of ideas, but what are those ideas based on? Or are some people just over reacting? |

What a load of rubbish
it is a show like all other shows with some support acts....nothing special. But he has to promote it this way otherwise it is 'another' prince show like all the other shows in europe this summer..but these r only my thoughts...
@dayzee : What the heart is full off, the mouth speak / fingertips type
@rafee : There is EVERYTHING special about this festival !! |

Yes he is the HEAD of the festival as oppose to HEADLINE a festival.
This is grand, needed and genius. Prince is sooo cool.
Saturday 6th August appears Prince on 10 ears in Copenhagen with his new festival concept - NPG Music and Arts Festival fromPrince and the New Power Generation.
NPG Festival stems from Prince 'current world tour' Welcome 2America ', which has been a huge success in America with over 250,000 visitors alone in Los Angeles. Prince describes himselftour and NPG as historic, and uses the following words to describe NPG: 'The Festival Will Play Host two real music by realmusicians'.
Besides Prince, a number of international artists come by the10-Door, located in scenic surroundings at Amager Beach Park. The names will be published regularly on www.npgfestival.dk.

Making sense from the 10-reference: The place where the festival is taking place is called 10-øren. Oh, blue light... |

I just noticed that the "more acts..." corner of the NPG site leads to the ticket site now. Duh. [Edited 6/20/11 15:20pm] |
