you (and others) seem to have a real negative and closed minded view on smoking a little bit of pot. i mean, of course people should be courteous and discreet when blazing, but jesus, this is california; weed is more accepted than tobacco. hence security's lack of care (at ANY venue).
i'd MUCH rather have some kid smoking pot being chill and getting down than some drunk person shouting nonsense, spilling his/her drink everywhere and singing lyrics out of sync (or any other drunk obnoxious behavior).
for the record, i always made sure it was cool and offered to those around me before i lit up. they didn't care, many took up my offer and thanked me for it.
the last show i was at (the last saturday show), there was a girl probably around 16 with her parents sitting next to us. did i smoke then? nope.

I was just about to say I haven't been around people that get high at concerts in a long time, when I realized that one of my friends was getting high....at one of these shows. I've pretty much taken it for granted since California made it illegal to smoke indoors at just about every venue conceivable that people stopped...until April 14 of this year. But now I'm gonna be jaded into thinking that Prince has a bunch of pothead fans now. Can't you guys wait until he does an outdoor show?

I'm as indifferent to pot smoking as a human being can be. If it makes me sneeze, allergies flare up, eyes water, or anything of the sort, then I'm pissed. If somehow, someway, it doesn't affect me or anyone else in a negative way, and I get a little contact, cool, then I'm happy someone brought some in. I HATE tobacco, so that's not part of the equation for me, any way.
For people that NEED marijuna to calm down, I'd prefer to not be in your presence.
If the concession stands were allowed to sell marijuna, like they are alcholic beverages, then I would acknowledge you have a point. But since they aren't, you don't.
If you offered me some, I MIGHT say yes, but I strongly doubt it. I don't think you should see it as any consolation just because there are others that like to indulge. What if someone brought prostitutes into the bathroom? Would you then welcome pimps because there are some guys....in wonderful California....that are willing to pay for hookers?
Where do YOU draw the line? Just with illegal things that YOU like to do? That's closed minded.

see, i guess thats where we differ. its not illegal for those of us that have a medical card. and, imo, there is a BIG difference between smoking a cigarette and taking a quick hit off a bowl.
and again, i'd much rather deal w/ some silly stoner than some drunk idiot. (not saying you're a drunk idiot.) but come on, prince is party music. the show is PARTY.
guess im just surprised people would be shocked that people are smoking a little weed (probably legally) at a prince show. [Edited 5/24/11 0:00am]
edit: guess it could be considered church...but its one wild church, lol! [Edited 5/24/11 0:01am]

First of all, I'm fucking with you...okay? Secondly, it doesn't matter if you have a Get Out Of Jail Free Card, smoking weed, inside the Forum is illegal, period. Smoking a cigarette inside the Forum is illegal. Feel free to hit up the patio areas where smoking is allowed.
I clearly dislike cigarettes more than I do marijuana, but I prefer not being around either one. And if you for ONE moment think that medical marijuana cards actually change something BESIDES helping people get out of jail time, then you are getting high too much.
The reason I was personally surprised by the presence of so much weed at the 21 Night Stand is because I go to a lot of concerts, by many different artists, and this just seems to be an extreme in terms of how many people and how much smoke.
So between a stoner, a drunk, and a perv in the bathroom, which one would you rather deal with?

For the record, I would not care if there were hookers in the bathroom. Would I partake? No. Would I care? Not at all. To each his/her own. Regarding how many shows you go to, I can only assume I attend as many or more (around 60-100 per year). I smell weed at all of them, and not just mine .

What about a drunk stoner? Or are you suggesting that pot heads don't drink? RIP

You might care if there was bodily fluids left on the floor where the hooker & john had just conducted their business...or bloody syringes left behind to be stepped on or sat on accidentally...or some foul bodily odor that you can't place from too much concentrated activity in one place without proper hygiene...or if you took your young child to the restroom during the show and saw a blowbang happening in the middle of the floor or worse, someone getting sexually assaulted...
Point is, if someone's personal activities which happen to be illegal affect you or your comfort in a public place then it's cut and dried whose comfort comes first.
This is beyond ridiculous to try to justify your desire or need to get high in a public place. I haven't cast a single judgment towards anyone but I'm reading several from others. I couldn't care less what you do as long as it doesn't affect me. If it does then I'm going to either ask you to get it away from me myself, or I will get security to do their jobs and deal with it. And for the record, you don't know me in real life but TRUST...if I asked you to take it elsewhere, you probably would do it.

6 PRINCE SHOWS IN LA THIS WEEK....!!!!! I'm on a Purple High....
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
lol at this purple thug showin' out on a message board
please!
you gonna put your hands on someone for smoking pot at a Prince show?
I would love for you to try that one on me.
Then again, I wouldn't be smoking pot at Prince but more power to those who do. Not offended in the least.
I've had issues with out of control drunk bitches at two shows now and NONE with stoners.
Maybe I'll get lucky and have one with some internet tough guy too lol

No Internet "tough guy" here, no threats, no placing hands upon anyone. Not that kind of dude. I don't engage with strangers anonymously on message boards. I've made my point several times over so for now, I think the OP's question has been answsered and the consensus seems to be "obey the law and don't infringe upon others' comfort in a public space." If I have to deal with it a show, it will be dealt with there as it has been in the past.

Really? Is it that much of an inconvenience for pot heads to go to the smoking sections?
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
It used to be illegal to have pot, unless you were at a concert in which case you got a pass.
Now you're allowed to have the pot, but you'd better not light it up in a building!
California, man!
I haven't noticed anyone getting escorted out of the building, but did notice security was more intense at the May 7 show than opening night, when it was practically like the security at the flea market... just some people in yellow jackets pointing out where you wanted to go.
Keep it in the smoking area is probably good advice... gives the moochers a controlled envoronment to go sniffing around.

Ok let's try a different route....PLEASE do not smoke your 420 or cigs inside at the shows regardless of whether security is strict or not....

At one of the Feb concerts in Oakland, some guy was thrown out for smoking pot. He was in the VIP area, too. Apparently he was berated by security, then was able to come back after a few songs.
Note that the security at the Oakland shows was generally pretty lax. “I have found the paradox, that if you love until it hurts, there can be no more hurt, only more love.” Mother Teresa

I can't believe how square some of you are...
People are smoking reefers at rock concerts?!? Since when?
Oh, yeah, since forEVER!
I've never been to the forum, but, I'm pretty sure the ceiling is high enough and the room is big enough that if you don't hit that joint yourself, you ain't getting high. Just cuz you smell it, doesn't mean it's having an affect on you.
Know what? I don't like the smell of perfume. Gives me headaches, too. Who do I whine too?

I was actually affected by pot smoking at a concert for the first time at Hop Farm. Some guys next to us were smoking weed and it was blowing directly into the face of my 5 months pregnant wife.
Luckily they were nice chaps and felt terrible when I pointed out the bulging belly and they moved away from us. RIP
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Wasn't Hop Farm outdoors?
It's good that they were nice enough to move away since she is pregnant, but really, outdoors?
Even next to you, outdoors, your baby is fine! Don't hate your neighbors. Hate the media that tells you to hate your neighbors.

AMEN'd. Those "other drunk obnoxious behaviour(s)" were PLENTIFUL during the Forum run.

Not fine, the smoke was blowing directly into her face, regardless of the baby neither of us want to be breathing in smoke, especially not from drugs. Indoors, outdoors or outer space, we shouldn't have to breather other peoples shit. RIP

Okay, but outside, smoke travels up. If it is blowing in your face, a few feet space will solve the problem. Which they politely did. Such nice stoners. Don't hate your neighbors. Hate the media that tells you to hate your neighbors.

It's so easy to respect the rules, why does some people make it so hard by thinking they have the right to do the opposite.
It's sad that some can't figure that out because they want their own pleasure. It's just a matter of respect for others, and for the laws in place.
I'd be proud of someone who chooses to smoke their crap before of after the concerts, as a gesture of respect for the others there who does respect the rules and are simply there to enjoy a great concert without having to deal with someone who doesn't respect their presence. Please don't smoke during the show. The people around you paid their ticket too, and they are waiting to have the best night of their life, don't make that night stained in their memories because it annoyed them that you didn't want to respect the rules and they unfortunately happened to be next to you. They also deserve to have a great night.
Please respect that... sigh.
Yeah, I love Graffiti Bridge movie, so what? ''Oooooooooooh Montreal, say it!''
If you can't be nice to someone on the net, you probably ain't worth much talking to in real life either.

Rules, shmooles. If you want to take that "Respect your neighbor" approach (not that I personally don't) try this:
The same could be said to each and every loud-ass, obnoxious (READ: more than half the) people consuming alcohol that are in attendance. Note how well the words fit when substituted!
