OFFICIAL THREAD: LOS ANGELES ORG PHOTO DOCUMENTARY PROJECT

OK, this is the official thread where all information will be given, all questions answered and all issues & concerns addressed for this exciting project.

Several Org members have generously shared with everyone photographs taken during the current 21 Night Stand run at the Forum in Los Angeles. In spite of our respect for Prince and his stance on photographs and videos, it is a fact that people have taken them and we have enjoyed viewing them. Many of the photos have been so impressive, so respectful, so professional in appearance that an idea emerged to create a photo album of the best ones as a documentary of the historic Forum engagement and offer them to Org members who donate to the cause on a strictly educational, not-for-profit endeavor. The photographers generously offered to share their work and I offered to donate my time and services to organize, design and create the project with the creative input and contributions from Org members. It is an endeavor for us all to enjoy as a tribute to The Man and the wonderful gift he, his band, crew and friends are sharing with us all.

We are at the starting point. The way it will work is that a PayPal account will be established by me to collect donations along with each contributor's name. We are not ready for that just yet but it will be announced here. A suggested amount of $10 seems to be an acceptable starting point for donating to the costs. I am donating my time and services but some of the costs will be, but not limited to:

Printing (including cutting, binding and shipping)

Postal fees (to Org members)

Graphic design (if there are graphic designers on the Org who are willing to donate their services, great; if not, some services may have to be solicited)

I want to reiterate for everyone's peace of mind: this is a not-for-profit concept intended for educational and documentary purposes only. These albums will not be offered for sale here or elsewhere. No one will be paid for their time or contributions. This is in no way affiliated with Prince, his organization, business partners, et al.

It was suggested that we approach Prince's camp with this idea for permission and/or to donate the work for their use. In my experience, I believe that to be the fastest way to get shut down on this, no matter how we phrase it. Prince is so protective of his image that there is no way he would co-sign on a venture such as this to give it his approval. It must remain fan-based, non-official in order to make it happen.

When we get to the donation stage, great care will be taken to document what amount each Org member donates. I think there should be two phases of donations. The first will be to donate to the project itself and the associated costs of production. The second will be for the album itself, when a final cost is determined based upon cost of the project and the number of albums ordered. The more ordered, the lower the cost. I have no objections to people ordering more than one album to share, gift, etc. If there are any objections to this paragraph, please share. I am ALWAYS open to feedback and discussion. Communication is of the utmost importance with something like this.

Also, in the event that the project does not reach fruition another reason to document each members' contribution is to ensure their donation is refunded to them. I believe that with something like that, cancellation is the only reason that donations can be refunded once offered; this isn't a full-time endeavor with an accounting department. Again, if there are any objections to this please share them.

I think that's it for now...the next steps are:

- if you're interested, please respond so we can get an idea of how many albums we're talking about;

- if you are one of our 21 Nite Stand Documenters (ie, photographers) please get in touch with me so that we can begin to organize what you have and begin the process of selection. What I'm looking to do is document the whole experience. I've seen shots of the Forum, the streets of Inglewood, the businesses around the Forum, the entrance, the fans, kids, families, freaks, as well as the concerts themselves. Also I want to attach each performance date to each shot shared...for example, if we divide the book up into 21 nights/sections, we can have specific shots for 4/14, 5/13, Troubadour first set, etc, if possible.

For sure... Let's keep this thing exclusively for the ORG & it can be a pretty cool... I don't have any photos to contribute, but I'm fairly crafty with photoshop & would love to put some layouts together.

Obviously, I'm in for helping cover expenses too... prince

Can't shut down that which doesn't exist. Best thing to do is to take a note from one of my, and apparently his, favorite songs: "Shhhhh..."

Or as MJ might say, "Keep it in the closet..." Or would that be R.Kelly..? You feel me though.

Once it's all said and done, I do plan to send a box of them to P...I'm a couple of degrees of separation from maybe not him personally, but someone who knows someone who knows whom to contact.

I'm absolutely in. I will donate for 2 copies. I will of course continue to provide any pix desired by the project. With a little luck I will attend several more Forum shows.

Also, if photos are edited before submission lets make sure the original show date is preserved before submission so as to prevent confusion or mis-dating.

You can do both...send it to me so I can place it in my folder and you can post it on the Org to share with others as they vote on which shots they want to see represented. Thanks for your contribution.

A bit of advice GDB, ignore the naysayers and people that attempt to inflict negative energy towards your thoughtful work and precious time. At the end of the day, as with EVERYTHING, quality will dictate how this project is treated by Prince and others, and based on what I've seen so far, this project will be full of quality work. I don't have any way to take any photos to donate to the project but would love to be able to have one of the books in exchange for a monetary donation of some sort. Maybe proceeds could be donated to some kind of music education charity or something.

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE what u have done so far. Looks awesome. How much fun did u have today laying this out? I think someone is missing Prince while he's up North! wink I would have loved spending today doing that! smile fun. Can't wait! Hurry get it done before he shuts u down. smile just kidding.
