Scored some good riser seats for $25 day-of-show on Ticketmaster.

Mike Phillips!! SAX was the reason I decided to go. It's the sound that's been missing on this Forum run!!

He is a lucky fan that caught Prince's attention. The right place @ the right time. I've stood in line with him @ many shows. He did a good job & should be commended 4 it.

Last night was historic. Watching Prince & Stevie 2gether on stage. Two geniuses!. Janelle opening was energetic, never seen her live. She has a unique gifted voice. She is fearless reminds of Prince in his early years..Three hours of Prince on stage!

Mike Phillips added a new full sound 2 Prince songs. It was an unbelievable night. eye will never 4get. It rivals the first night April 14. If not better than. It was a party from start 2 finish. eye can tell Stevie was coming. Just felt like a special night. It being his B-day & all...

I wonder how many shows he's gotten to do that? I've seen him up there twice. I know that those aren't the only two shows he's done. How cool is that?

That is very cool. Last night seemed rehearsed 2 me. But 2 b on stage singing lead with Ur musical idol, has 2 b an out of body experience. He is a true fan though. eye only know of 2 he has done. Since its been here in LA when eye saw them. eye have seen him @ every show eye been 2.

eye will ALWAYS think of prince like a "ACT OF GOD"! N another realm. eye mean of all people who might of been aliens or angels.if found out that prince wasn't of this earth, eye would not have been that surprised. R.I.P. prince

Very good reason. Mike Phillips added a new dimension that made the music richer, fuller, and more complete. Plus, his solos were great.

I didn't go last night to the After Party, so can't confirm nor deny who, if anyone performed. I did go to last Friday night's and Macy Gray did perform, along with a few other acts. Prince went on stage and played the keyboards. I guess you're wording it better than I am, because it was a "jam" session, very funky, very fun, very light-hearted, very positive, very intimate.

Here's hoping for more Prince tracks and fewer covers tonight...! Lose Play that Funky Music, Inglewood Swingin', Thank You (Falettinme Be Mice Elf Agin) and replace with ANY Prince tracks. He has so many great tracks that it pains me to hear him repeatedly doing cuts from "Time-Life Party Tracks Collection".

[Edited 5/13/11 12:07pm]

I guess we just have to accept that these songs are now mainstays with the 21 Night Stand. The crowd's reaction to Play That Funky Music probably reinforces his confidence to keep pulling it out of his back pocket, and I suppose he's adopted the "Inglewood" Swinging theme for the Forum.

Aha, there was more. I checked out during the "dance party" segment.

Wanted to catch the tail end of a show some friends were doing at Club Nokia downtown.

Figured after Janelle's set, the inspired main set capped off with Mr. Wonder's appearance, it couldn't get much better than that.

Seems like this guy always has an overdrive gear he can shift into.

To tell you the truth, I wasn't going to do this 5th show but I had a bit of a hunch (along with an unconfirmed tip) Stevie would show tonight.

Glad I ended up playing it.

Thanks for the list.

was it your 5th ever or your 5th of this tour?

Hey Andrew,

Of this tour.

There have been others.

The infamous L.A. Coliseum gig

2 Purple Rain Tour dates at The Forum

3 Musicology dates at Staples

1 3121 Vegas date

I'll probably back off for a bit and go to whatever turns out to be the last date.

Hopefully another Troubadour type gig will occur between now and then.

Even though Prince has requested that we not take photos or vid, I gotta say...I really, really appreciate this pic and you for taking it. This really documents what it was like in there...to see the band, including P himself, surrounding Stevie reverentially like that and every eye in the place focused upon him was a once-in-a-lifetime moment. Thanks for capturing it.

Last night was show number 11 of 21...tonight makes an even dozen. I've done nine of the eleven and one of the two Troubadour shows. Every time I think it's time to pull back and take a break something like last night happens and I get amped up all over again...you don't want to hear afterwards that you missed something great or unique. Having said that, not sure I'll be there tonight but we'll see...

It's kind of tiring reading all of these glowing reports from Fuckenberry and such talking about how great and classic a show is, and here we are in the 21st century, and Prince does mostly nothing to share any of this with his fan base. Do you know how easy it would be to release and sell some of this stuff to the masses (or even just his hardcores)? To me, it almost seems like bragging that he's getting to witness all of the stuff going down.

I'm not necessarily talking about the reports from people on this site, as I know they're just discussing what they saw, but I'm more talking about his unofficial PR team who LOVE to deify him in almost an arrogant fashion. It reeks of "I'm here, and you're not!" The more Prince supposedly changes, the more they stay the same with him. His record breaking 21-night run in London was reduced to being documented in some glossy London hotel coffee book. And please don't get me started on that monstrosity that was the Indigo CD. With all of the video he recorded of those shows, what's the problem with a video release every now and again?? He wants to claim to be making trends and being a ground breaker, yet so many other artists are light years ahead of him in getting their art in the hands of the consumer. What, he thinks if he offers some video or audio, people wouldn't bother getting tickets to his shows?? Um no, Mr. Genius. It would allow everyone who's not in the crowd of 10-15K (or smaller for any one-off small performances) to also be a part of it or witness it.

Sorry for the rant. I know this post was all over the place. lol Just tired of his antiquated thinking, like it's the mid-80's all over again. Oops, even then he released a couple of his live shows, so maybe we should go back even further than that.

Warning: This reply is going to anger some people:

IT SEEMS TO ME:

Prince, like most people have a problem trusting what he can not see.... The God- complex of I only believe in the God I can see or directly can feel... Kinda control ish...

The love of the grassroots... he must need to see himself, Yes the tickets are only $25, so he can see the masses that are contantly talking about him, positively or negatively, all in AGREEMENT: That WE LOVE him as is! Each in our own grumbly way! BECAUSE we are united in his MUSIC!

Love of his MUSIC... doesn't seem enough for him not to question it though and want to control or visualize or to have some type of confirmation in some kind of fashion... $25... way... Or If you love me like you say you do, you'ld come out and pay my fee...

A very short sighted way of looking at it.

It can be a very difficult thing and disasterous to let go and try to see it in a longer or wider scope.. I get that.... His liveihood is on the line...: The attempt to BALANCE it must be a constant STRUGGLE:

Hence why : Jehovah Witness....

Just my take on the man... who is a ICON but stioll only ONE man....

I don't think your opinion angers too many people and I highly doubt it would anger Prince, himself. Anybody that has followed his career is fully aware that he has control, trust, and ego issues....uh......but so do the majority of celebrities, especially in America. His APPEAR to be more severe, but that's because he's the most prolific musical artist of the last 3 decades, at least in the pop world, and there's not a close 2nd. Therefore, he has had a lot more to lose via the manipulation and exploitation that occurs within the music industry. Prince has constantly had to figure out how to stay relevant, how to pace his release of music, how to incorporate his passion for writing for other artists, while maintaining an excellence with his material.

One thing that I personally appreciate about Prince is that he promotes creativity and individualism while TRYING to be inclusive. Much of what he does, in regards to protecting his music, likeness, etc is not being done just for himself. As I will discredit him in some areas concerning cooperating and supporting artists, AT LEAST, in the concept of protection, I am 100% sure he is trying to be a leader and defender of musicians and their livelihoods.

I think people are making a big mistake when they are blaming Prince for certain things that apparently lead to less prosperity for him. Is he ultimately responsible? YES. But when you have very little, if any peers...besides maybe a Stevie Wonder.....that you can remotely relate to, naturally a sense in your mind is going to develop that no one, even a Stevie Wonder really can. His ONLY protection is his music and the way he performs it. He CLEARLY doesn't want to give up control....across the board....and sometimes, it hurts his product, not just his potential for promotion. But I respect his choices and since I respect peoples' homes, I refrain from recording or taking pictures at his shows. If someone REALLY cares, contact him and offer a suggestion. My opinion is that he should welcome photos and recordings of himself all through the internet, but at the same time, one could point to the internet has ending the viability for a lot of musicians, a lot less popular than Prince, to make a living.

One thing about your implied suggestions that Prince sees himself above others, whether you see that as cockines, arrogance, or whatever, that's part of the protocol. If you chronicle top entertainers, or for that matter, people at the top of any industries, when their confidence is shaky, they tend to fall on their face. Athletes, singers, actors, politicians, doctors...need their egos boasted. When your living is made based on entertaining thousands of people at one venue, even more so. Again, I want to be perfectly clear: your points are viable, and I agree with others that suggest certain things pertaining to Prince would be better if he made adjustments, but at the end of the day, it's his career and we are free to choose how we handle our own careers. So why people get UPSET about it, is beyond me. You take the good with the bad and when the bad outweighs the good, you find another musical artist(s) to listen to.

What an experience last night. Amazing show. My 5th in this 21 night series & going again2nite, and its crazy that I'm excited about it (amped like the earlier post I agree, think I'm over it & come back for more).
I agree with so much said in the review posts above.
Special moments, Stevie, Scandalous, Adore, Little Red Corvette.
The intro to Let's Go Crazy had such a Jimi Hendrix feel with the bright light showing his silhouette/shadow in the stage smoke (seen from my piano side of the stage).
He set up so many moments. Great pix on this post.
Very special night for me. I'd been feeling "The One" this week it was my background track for the week & he tore it up last night.
HIS FALSETTO & SCREAM: falsetto was in top shape & sounded very pretty Prince.
Vocals/scream/falsetto ALL in very nice shape last night.
For the deeper issues - Why doesn't he release footage, video, etc.?
It's frustrating, I agree.
My husbands take - "He'll release them when he's older & not generating income so he will still have income."
My take - he's setting himself up, in his mind, for "immortality" in a way.
When they are released their impact will be everlasting.

Completely agree. I live minutes from the Forum and the opportunity to drive less than an half-hour, wait until the day of show, score awesome seats that years ago would have been completely unavailable other than through scalpers and enjoy not just a good concert but an incredible 2.5 to 3 hour experience...it's seductive. It almost doesn't feel right. The Troubadour thing is much more of what I have become accustomed to with Prince.

Ya'll who live in or near LA can take last minute chances...those of us who have to fly in can't. Hope ya'll appreciate the fact that he is doing so many in your locale and you can afford the cheaper tix. When you gotta pay for plane and hotel, you just can't chance it! LOL
