I haven't been able to post until tonight due to the waiting period to join the org, but THANK YOU ihatephish Soooooooooo much for the great show on Wednesday night that I enjoyed with a nice IPA in my living room. That's a wicked setlist. Glad he brought back You're The One For Me. That was my fave song on Lopez Tonite.

They killed it. Aside from Stevie, that was probably the song I enjoyed the most last night. Note I didn't say "best." But it placed a huge smile on my face and I couldn't get it out of my head afterwards.

Travelled halfway around the world to see this.

So, so worth it.

*contented sigh*

No other words tonight, just need to wind down a bit so I can sleep.

Thank you Prince, Janelle & band, Stevie, Mike, Sheila and the NPG heart

Stevie played other songs in a medley with Superstition. After he was on stage, he started off playing harmonica, then he sang Superstition, then he sat at the piano and jammed, and sang snippets of 2 other songs (one was You Haven't Done Nothing), then went back to singing Superstition.

He also played a few bars of his own "Happy Birthday" on Harp at the beginning of it all.

That was some really special shit tonight.

Janelle Monae ripped it up!! If you were there I was one of the very few standing up singing the songs smile. Anyway, Prince.. he did shhh, Insatiable and Scandalous all in one night... woahh.. blew me away.. yall already know it was an amazing night. Although I went alone, I made some friends to chat with and I was groovin by myself. I got two sides and they both friends giggle I will give details.. maybe I won't but I might.. Stevie ripped it, my feet was hurting but I still got up and danced lol.

I would like to add on the Stevie Wonder comment, I agree Prince was the star of this show.. but he stepped off his throne and gave it to Stevie. He humbled himself and Mike, Sheila and Prince was leading him to the right places by grabbing his arm and really giving him the respect he deserved. It was like watching a musician, a person in general displaying the admiration they had for a musician that paved the way. I thought it was amazing to see that, I think thats how it should have been done.

When we were singing his name, Stevie was just bobbin his head, it was awesome. I thought that was one of the best moments of the night. I think the best moment is when he came out to do the encore and did all those songs. I dug it, but man oh man.. really the biggest highlight was the Stevie Wonder incident, oh and John Blackwell running up those stairs after throwing his sticks at the crowd and calling it a night. The craziest thing I saw was when Prince was rubbing his sweat with that towel and threw it in the crowd. I thought that was funny. and finally looking Prince in the eyes, I didn't feel any awkwardness, it was pretty cool

Wow.

I don't want to post one of my usual in-depth reviews because I don't want to hurt anyone's feelings. I know y'all are tired of hearing about how great these shows are, how great Prince is performing, blah blah blah. I get it. I'll keep it brief.

The Kid was in rare form tonight. Trust that. He was feeling REAL good...put on a heckuva SHOW. Prince appeared to be inspired last night.

The Stevie rumours have been out there for a while and with yesterday being his birthday, I had a feeling that Friday might be THE night. When I saw extra security posted around the VIP lounge entrance and watched patrons being aggressively sweated left and right for their passes, I thought that something might be going down. He received much love and respect from the audience and it was especially touching to see the affection and reverence paid to him by Prince, Mike Phillips and Sheila E. Prince is the star of the show and yet there he was helping Stevie, getting his mic right, paying homage...again, no hyperbole but it was a...humbling moment.

Funny moment: John Blackwell missing his cue on "Purple Rain"...he was late coming up the steps and tried to hustle but missed the downbeat.

[Edited 5/14/11 3:08am]

You bring me to tears! Sounds like a fantastic night!!

Aha, there was more. I checked out during the "dance party" segment.

Wanted to catch the tail end of a show some friends were doing at Club Nokia downtown.

Figured after Janelle's set, the inspired main set capped off with Mr. Wonder's appearance, it couldn't get much better than that.

Seems like this guy always has an overdrive gear he can shift into.

To tell you the truth, I wasn't going to do this 5th show but I had a bit of a hunch (along with an unconfirmed tip) Stevie would show tonight.

Glad I ended up playing it.

Thanks for the list.

It's kind of tiring reading all of these glowing reports from Fuckenberry and such talking about how great and classic a show is, and here we are in the 21st century, and Prince does mostly nothing to share any of this with his fan base. Do you know how easy it would be to release and sell some of this stuff to the masses (or even just his hardcores)? To me, it almost seems like bragging that he's getting to witness all of the stuff going down.

I'm not necessarily talking about the reports from people on this site, as I know they're just discussing what they saw, but I'm more talking about his unofficial PR team who LOVE to deify him in almost an arrogant fashion. It reeks of "I'm here, and you're not!" The more Prince supposedly changes, the more they stay the same with him. His record breaking 21-night run in London was reduced to being documented in some glossy London hotel coffee book. And please don't get me started on that monstrosity that was the Indigo CD. With all of the video he recorded of those shows, what's the problem with a video release every now and again?? He wants to claim to be making trends and being a ground breaker, yet so many other artists are light years ahead of him in getting their art in the hands of the consumer. What, he thinks if he offers some video or audio, people wouldn't bother getting tickets to his shows?? Um no, Mr. Genius. It would allow everyone who's not in the crowd of 10-15K (or smaller for any one-off small performances) to also be a part of it or witness it.

Sorry for the rant. I know this post was all over the place. lol Just tired of his antiquated thinking, like it's the mid-80's all over again. Oops, even then he released a couple of his live shows, so maybe we should go back even further than that.

Prince once said " I was raised on the same plantation, the Plantation of the United States...."

Welll, during the struggle back in the 1960/1070's/ 1980's It was Steve Wonder and MEN like him who sang and gave us HOPE... Ideas on How to be HUMANE and CIVIL and Civil Citizens towards each other! How to "LOVE ONE ANOTHER! in JAH!

It's nice to see PRINCE respect the one who came before and humbly show respect to another who is still as important and impactful TODAY!

I wouldn't be able to SEE that level of respect... if you were not brave enough to photograph and post in defiance to Princes's obvious distain of being recorded... So thank you!

Before I get my ass chewed out:

Anyone remember:

New Oder

Substance 1987 album?

The song "True Faith?"

True Faith
I feel so extraordinary
Something’s got a hold on me
I get this feeling I’m in motion
A sudden sense of liberty
I don’t care ’cause I’m not there
And I don’t care if I’m here tomorrow
Again and again I’ve taken too much
Of the things that cost you too much
I used to think that the day would never come
I’d see delight in the shade of the morning sun
My morning sun is the drug that brings me near
To the childhood I lost, replaced by fear
I used to think that the day would never come
That my life would depend on the morning sun...

When I was a very small boy,
Very small boys talked to me
Now that we’ve grown up together
They’re afraid of what they see
That’s the price that we all pay
Our valued destiny comes to nothing
I can’t tell you where we’re going
I guess there was just no way of knowing
I used to think that the day would never come
I’d see delight in the shade of the morning sun
My morning sun is the drug that brings me near
To the childhood I lost, replaced by fear
I used to think that the day would never come
That my life would depend on the morning sun...

I feel so extraordinary
Something’s got a hold on me
I get this feeling I’m in motion
A sudden sense of liberty
The chances are we’ve gone too far
You took my time and you took my money
Now I fear you’ve left me standing
In a world that’s so demanding
I used to think that the day would never come
I’d see delight in the shade of the morning sun
My morning sun is the drug that brings me near
To the childhood I lost, replaced by fear
I used to think that the day would never come
That my life would depend on the morning sun...

Who was the white boy in red who sand PLAY THAT FUNKY MUSIC? He was the same guy who sang it in Vegas 4 years ago. I originally thought that he was a random guy pulled from the audience for the 3121 Vegas show, but it was the same dude in the same clothes singing the same song so he must be somebody. Anyone know?

The expanded version of my book PRINCE and The Purple Rain Era Studio Sessions 1983-1984 was released in November 2018. (www.amazon.com/gp/product/1538114623/ref=dbs_a_def_rwt_bibl_vppi_i0) or www.facebook.com/groups/1...104195943/

He is a lucky fan that caught Prince's attention. The right place @ the right time. I've stood in line with him @ many shows. He did a good job & should be commended 4 it.

Last night was historic. Watching Prince & Stevie 2gether on stage. Two geniuses!. Janelle opening was energetic, never seen her live. She has a unique gifted voice. She is fearless reminds of Prince in his early years..Three hours of Prince on stage!

Mike Phillips added a new full sound 2 Prince songs. It was an unbelievable night. eye will never 4get. It rivals the first night April 14. If not better than. It was a party from start 2 finish. eye can tell Stevie was coming. Just felt like a special night. It being his B-day & all...

[Edited 5/14/11 12:34pm]

eye will ALWAYS think of prince like a "ACT OF GOD"! N another realm. eye mean of all people who might of been aliens or angels.if found out that prince wasn't of this earth, eye would not have been that surprised. R.I.P. prince

You're welcome. Happy to serve as a 'Hood Correspondent for the 'Org. wink

Why "Hood Correspondent"? More like "Official Chronicler". thumbs up!
That being the case, what's the official "21 Nites" show count at this point?

I've lost track.

He is a lucky fan that caught Prince's attention. The right place @ the right time. I've stood in line with him @ many shows. He did a good job & should be commended 4 it.

Last night was historic. Watching Prince & Stevie 2gether on stage. Two geniuses!. Janelle opening was energetic, never seen her live. She has a unique gifted voice. She is fearless reminds of Prince is his early years..Three hours of Prince on stage!

Mike Phillips added a new full sound 2 Prince songs. It was an unbelievable night. eye will never 4get. It rivals the first night April 14. If not better than. It was a party from start 2 finish. eye can tell Stevie was coming. Just felt like a special night. It being his B-day & all...

I wonder how many shows he's gotten to do that? I've seen him up there twice. I know that those aren't the only two shows he's done. How cool is that?
