Smart move, you paid to enjoy the show not to give updates all nite... if you dont like it deal with it [Edited 3/29/11 11:19am] Nick Ashford was someone I greatly admired, had the honor of knowing, and was the real-life inspiration for Cowboy Curtis' hair. RIP Nick. - Pee Wee Herman

Maybe you should realize some want to ENJOY the show and not give updates... DEAL WITH IT!! WHO ARE YOU TO JUDGE? Nick Ashford was someone I greatly admired, had the honor of knowing, and was the real-life inspiration for Cowboy Curtis' hair. RIP Nick. - Pee Wee Herman

Of course he has aged! Why wouldn't he? The Revolution-era Prince was BEAUTIFUL; but, in my view at least, the Prince of today is BEAUTIFUL AND his face is really, really interesting, shows a great deal of emotion, introspection, and depth.

I am not judging anyone. I personally would not send updates during a show either, never have, don't want to! But there is a much nicer way to say it than..."I don't have time to send updates to you muthaf**kas". That, getxxxx, was my ONLY point and complaint. You should try to read the entire conversation before putting your two cents into it. I never asked him to give updates. I could care less if he does or does not. Therefore, everything you just said to me, makes no sense, and is a moot point. Dig? -you ain't funky at all, you just a little ol' prude!

I agree. He is a normal human being and has aged a bit (although not a lot). But he is still beautiful. I love seeing the face of emotions and depth. -you ain't funky at all, you just a little ol' prude!

So do I actually 2 get the bloody song out the way. Maybe he could follow with LRC, 1999, LGC, Kiss, Controversy & RB & then get the real party started!!

thats what I want to know...I would love to hear it!!!!

I'm with you on this! He has aged, although he still looks ten years younger than 52. His face is as beautiful as ever, and I love the mature look. Yes, I adore him even more now than I did 20 years ago.

Patiently waiting for updates here in Slovenia... A funk a day keeps the nose away.

I've gotta disagree.....no Camille effects on his voice at all, just him singing in a raspy voice.

Lala missed her cue to come in on the third verse.....she sang it in a deep voice that lacked emotion or power.....I didn't like it.

I wish people would stop putting Housequake in setlists because HE IS NOT DOING HOUSEQUAKE!!!! Repeating "How many people know about the quake" and then asking them to jump up and down to music that IS NOT HOUSEQUAKE is NOT PERFORMING HOUSEQUAKE!!!!

Greenville was AMAZING! This was my 12th show...seen him in 4 different decades now! 80's, 90's, 00's and 10's. This may have been the most energetic and happy that I have ever seen him. I saw him back in January in New York (Jan 18) and I have to say that Greenville was better.
Amazing set list, amazing atmosphere, amazingly loud crowd. No Shhh, Insatiable or Adore. Not that I wouldn't have loved to hear those songs, but he was in a kick ass mood and those songs didn't fit last night!!
Awesome, awesome show. 10 out of 10!!

For me the best and cutest moment of the night was during the sampler set, when he triggered the music for Darling NIkki and started reaching for the mic and pulling himself away, like he was saying to himself "DAMN I wanna sing this song but Jehovah won't let me!". Pretty damn cool.
Also that backwoods redneck guy ended up being a guy who had just gotten out of 25 year prison bid. Nice....and creepy. I wonder if thoughts of Prince kept him warm during those long jail nights!

I enjoyed the show.....the setlist has been posted......but it was just good for me. The guitar work was goodt, the playing was good, the sound of the Bi-Lo center sucked (too reverby) but I'm just sick of the Las Vegas feel of all of his shows since the Musicology tour. I know, I know, I'm too picky or expect too much....BUT I just wish for once that he would do something unexpected.....like say play the Sign O The Times album all the way through, every freaking song.......or strip the arrangements down, get rid of the shmaltzy feel.....hell, just get rid of all the background singers so I can actually HEAR just him! But whatever.....I had fun. I knew what to expect. I'd do it again. But I'm not gonna delude myself into thinking it was OMG!!! THE BEST SHOW EVER!!! [Edited 3/29/11 14:47pm]

I always enjoy the diverse opinions on the org, there has never been and probably will never be any subject with which everyone either agrees or disagrees
Just curious, you obviously don't like PR (or LRC, 1999, LGC, etc) so why would you want it performed at all?
As for those who actually like PR, why do you think it's okay to be the opening song?
Here's where I'm coming from ...
PR is his signature song, it's the one song with which he's most identified. It's dramatic, emotional, and immensely loved by the vast majority of his fans. For many, it is THE highlight of a Prince concert.
Jumping right into it as the opener is like eating dessert before the appetizer and main course. Without the crescendo of emotion that typically builds during a Prince concert, how can the song be as moving and powerful when it's performed as Prince takes the stage for the first time and the audience has barely had a chance to settle in? And then to go right into another song, rather than give the fans (and Prince) a chance to bask in the beauty of the performance? Do you think legendary PR performances such as Milan would have been as dramatic and raw if they were the opener?
This has motivated me to start a new thread "Never let nasty stalkers disrespect you. They start shit, you finish it. Go down to their level, that's the only way they'll understand. You have to handle things yourself."
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Honestly, I find it kind of a "buzzkill" sometimes after having been "up & jamming". I usually just sit and regroup during PR. By opening the show, I know it's out of the way and now we can party.

One more thing...I know there already is a thread about the "sampler set" but I have to say after seeing it for myself that it is pretty........cheap I guess is the best way to put it. I would love to have one of those samplers in my crib because it looks cool as fuck, but for someone to say "real music" several times in a show only to turn around and devote 30 minutes in that same show to basically pressing a button is just hypocritical. I've seen my share of electronic acts that Prince may deem not "real music" and they do a hell of alot more than press a button on a sampler to trigger the playing of the full song.

U can't expect Prince 2 play everything full version. This is his way of trying 2 satisfy everybody & Prince still gets complaints from U wining never satified so called fans. Anyway love the different opinion views....... will ALWAYS think of like a "ACT OF GOD"! N another realm. mean of all people who might of been aliens or angels.if found out that wasn't of this earth, would not have been that surprised. R.I.P.

Nowhere in my post did I complain about him not playing full versions of songs during the sampler set. I complained about him pressing a button......basically playing DJ......when he loves to talk about "real music". The sampler set is called the sampler set NOT because he plays samples of songs but because he is using a sampler to trigger these songs. He could do so much more with that sampler to show how so-called "real music" could be made with the sampler. Jamie Lidell will actually recreate an entire song, a song made with loops and samples and drum machines, all right on stage. RJD2 does a similiar thing at his shows. Prince could have the individual drum sounds programmed to keys on the sampler, along with certain other sounds and notes, and reprogram/recreate When Doves Cry.......right there on stage.....and EVERYONE would love it.
