So, Prince wasn't on vocals AT ALL for "Extraordinary"? Just Shelby and the other two?? Oh God, see this what I can't stand! I paid to see and hear Prince sing HIS songs on lead, not the backup vocalist, regardless of if she/they can sing or not.

The band doesn't even have its own sound or personality or anything to distinguish it from a Prince cover band. It's almost depressing to see has gotten so ordinary and, well, boring!! His studio output has BEEN like that for a few years now, but at least there were the live shows. Until now.

U can't expect Prince 2 play everything full version. This is his way of trying 2 satisfy everybody & Prince still gets complaints from U wining never satified so called fans. Anyway love the different opinion views.......

Nowhere in my post did I complain about him not playing full versions of songs during the sampler set. I complained about him pressing a button......basically playing DJ......when he loves to talk about "real music". The sampler set is called the sampler set NOT because he plays samples of songs but because he is using a sampler to trigger these songs. He could do so much more with that sampler to show how so-called "real music" could be made with the sampler. Jamie Lidell will actually recreate an entire song, a song made with loops and samples and drum machines, all right on stage. RJD2 does a similiar thing at his shows. Prince could have the individual drum sounds programmed to keys on the sampler, along with certain other sounds and notes, and reprogram/recreate When Doves Cry.......right there on stage.....and EVERYONE would love it.

[Edited 3/29/11 18:49pm]

Dude you have been ranting for a day about the show. Don't you think that the sampler set is just Prince messing around and having some fun on stage and trying to get all the songs in. For the most part is show is real music and no we do not need a bunch of dudes on stage using samplers. Your getting irritated about P pushing a button but you want to see a bunch of dudes on the stage during the same thing.

How was the duet of Nothing Compares 2 U with Lalah? It has the potential to be great, was it?

IMHO ... It wasn't a winner. Lalah is a great jazzy singer but not a super strong voice like Rosie or Chaka.... Lalah was ok but in no way a stand out. It lacked a little something. I don't know if she was holding back but if she had came with it a little more it would have maybe been better. But as I was listening I was thinking she didn't do it justice.

For me the best and cutest moment of the night was during the sampler set, when he triggered the music for Darling NIkki and started reaching for the mic and pulling himself away, like he was saying to himself "DAMN I wanna sing this song but Jehovah won't let me!". Pretty damn cool.

Also that backwoods redneck guy ended up being a guy who had just gotten out of 25 year prison bid. Nice....and creepy. I wonder if thoughts of Prince kept him warm during those long jail nights! lol

I agree... LOVED that. Then acted like we are the bad ones for wanting to hear it. It was too cute.

Question....Who the heck is Lalah's lead guitar player? I think he should have been in front and her behind him. Saw him at Izod also. He is BAD ASS!!!! I know she said his name but I didn't catch it.

The one thing I noticed at this show was that he didn't do a lot of singing, he let the audience sing, his band, and did a whole lot of jumping quickly into guitar solos. Maybe his voice was hurting?

it was ah-mazing overall. he knew exactly what he was doing in a city like greenville where a lot of people wont know much other than the hits. starting with Purple Rain was perfect. i love a good slow start to a set, but that song is so epic and huge and emotional it more than makes up for the tempo. i died during Mountains. i dont know how frequently he plays that song, but it's my all-time favorite. the only live recording i have of it is from 85. i died again during the BASS SOLO. lord. does anyone remember what song that happened on?

ive never been a fan of this group of backup singers, but i guess having more abrasive, up front singers makes sense as he... ages? which, my favorite line from the night was "all yall gettin older... all yall gettin older... i still look the same." ridiculous. and true. the backup singers didnt bother me as much hearing it live; theyre more intrusive on the boots. ive also never been a fan of the kitschy, Purple Medley-esque sampler set, but the Darling Nikki thing was hilarious. and when you're seeing prince live, you don't think about the things you dont like. its impossible to not be 100% entranced.

was that morris on organs? his face during the intro to Lets Go Crazy was HILARIOUS.

other highlights for me were Pop Life, Musicology, Delirious, Hot Thing and Let's Work (best bassline ever?)

phew

Yea, another great song perfect for concerts, just not used. just a short tease and then its gone...this is such a great song for a concert setting no idea why he dosent actually do more than 15 seconds of it in his shows...

Was Housequake the full thing, or did he just tease with the chant as usual?

I wish people would stop putting Housequake in setlists because HE IS NOT DOING HOUSEQUAKE!!!! Repeating "How many people know about the quake" and then asking them to jump up and down to music that IS NOT HOUSEQUAKE is NOT PERFORMING HOUSEQUAKE!!!!

Once again you missed the point. First off I've been "ranting" about the show for a day because I post as I think of things, not run home after a concert and start RAVING about how great it was or whatever most uber-fans do. Second, Jamie Lidell is ONE person, the same as RJD2. ONE person recreates an electronic, sample based song......LIVE on stage....NOT a "bunch of dudes". And besides, if you knew anything about samplers you'd know that more than one person trying to loop and create in tandem with other people would be a lot more impressive than Prince pressing a button.

Ok, I've been here for about 30 minutes or so and im already starting to see what I hate about Prince concerts.....the overabundance of the color purple, people dressing up like they are going to church, the club, etc. Its a fucking concert, nobody cares what the fuck YOU look like!!!! Most of these people probably went out and bought clothes specifically for this show, which is ridiculous in my opinion. ANYWay.....so far id say it's about half full, but people are still coming in. To be continued......

Ummm... I bought an outfit for the concert... confused

I got 3 new outfits too for each of the NC shows. And a new pair of high heels that I wore 2 of the 3 nights. I actually love that people come looking their best, shows Prince some respect. And I love that so many people wore Purple...shows love for Prince!! I kinda laughed at how many women, myself included, showed up in 3-4inch heels and stilletos and by the end of the night either had them in their hands, or was limping and walking slow. LOL Prince always takes pride in how he looks and always comes dressed to the 9s. So I like that people attending his show does the same thing. Plus if you go to the club afterwards, you don't have to change!

Prince is GORGEOUS. I'm inspired. GOD is GREAT. Is there anything else to say? lol

I don't know how the man doesn't age, but he looks damn fine for his age.

He said something to that effect in Greensboro also. It was funny. But he did not say the audience was old, I can't remember exactly what he said.

Actually I think in Greensboro he said something about their being alot of older folks in the crowd, then went into his songs not being old though. I know in Charlotte he commented how many young folks he had in the audience. There were alot of younger folks at the Charlotte show which was so awesome. That was the hypest crowd of the 3 NC shows! He joked around alot in Greensboro, that was really great to see from him..he seemed to be having so much fun!

I know the man likes to mix things up, but that is downright bizarre.

I think Purple Rain should be a part of every Prince concert, but not as the opener ... that just ain't right. wacky

I fully back opening with Purple Rain.

I do too...its the perfect opener to really get people going. I've always said its his most recognized song by casual and non fans. Prince = Purple Rain (for them at least). And the song is amazing! I don't mind when he opens with a power ballad that had great guitar playing. He opened with Future Soul Song too and that was great IMO!!

I am not judging anyone. I personally would not send updates during a show either, never have, don't want to! But there is a much nicer way to say it than..."I don't have time to send updates to you muthaf**kas". That, getxxxx, was my ONLY point and complaint. I'm with you there....no one asked him to give updates. I always let people know that are following me that I will give updates during breaks/wardrobe changes. And that's what I do because I love those updates when I can't go to a show, so I try to do the same for others. I'm sitting down during the breaks, what is it to pull out the cell phone and post a few quick updates for those at home that aren't lucky enough to be there?
