He opened with Purple Rain? For real?
I know the man likes to mix things up, but that is downright bizarre.
I think Purple Rain should be a part of every Prince concert, but not as the opener ... that just ain't right. "Never let nasty stalkers disrespect you. They start shit, you finish it. Go down to their level, that's the only way they'll understand. You have to handle things yourself."

Actually, it was really cool. When the opening notes started, the crowd went crazy! It really fed into the energy of the whole show.

Prince commented that the audience was "all old" and then said, "But I still look the same."
I don't know how the man doesn't age, but he looks damn fine for his age.

He's opened with Purple Rain before, at the opening night at the O2 as well as last year in Nice. It works well as an opener in my opinion. It gets the crowd going.

he opened with it in the premier show of the o2 gigs....no problem with that....

He opened with it at 07/07/07 and it was amazing.

Here's the set list... feel free to make any corrections--I won't be offended... LOLOL.
The Greenville show was virtually filled to the rafters... there were empty seats, but not many... people were sitting as high as the top row... The stage was noticeably smaller than the one used in the New York run--maybe Prince has a smaller configuration for smaller arenas? The Greenville audience was AMAZING!!! They stood up virtually the whole time, they "pushed it up", they waved hands side to side, they waved cell phones side to side, they responded when he called, they danced, and I've never seen so much purple at a Prince show in years (I live in New York)... When he finally left the stage, and exited under the arena, Greenville didn't want to leave! They wanted more! and as somebody previously said, you don't leave a Prince show until security carries yo ass outta there! LOLOL. But alas, the show was over... so we did eventually leave. LOL. Enjoy!

He also opened with Purple Rain in Vienna last year! As surprising as it was, it worked perfectly well and he had the crowd in his hand after the first few notes of the song.

There needs to be more young fans, like me.

Thats because most casual prince fans are more familiar with that song. The arenas are not always filled with Diehard prince fans. So Purple Rain as an opener works... It gets people ready for what is yet to come. This better antonb and PurpleSpirit319

I think that is a GREAT idea! I took a photo of one from Greensboro. Perhaps we should start a thread on its own!!

Okay, I have heard about enough from you. No one asked YOU to give us updates! Yes, we all love to know what is going on, but no one asked YOU. She/he was stating that you were acting like an arse because of your lack of couth. What is wrong in society is that there are folks that have a crappy attitude such as yours. You think you should get respect by calling everyone muthaf**kas? Maybe you should learn to be nice. Or practice anger management techniques. Maybe you should pray. Your set list is dead-on. Can't believe I almost forgot he did "Pop Life." My favs were DMSR, Kiss (where he did this funny as hell dance), U Got the Look, and Mountains (which I've never heard live before). Purple Rain was a great if unexpected opener. No one seemed disappointed with him starting out that way. In fact it was just the opposite. The crowd was great and damn near capacity. Prince was outstanding last night and yes there were a lot of old folks in the crowd

He said something to that effect in Greensboro also. It was funny. But he did not say the audience was old, I can't remember exactly what he said. -you ain't funky at all, you just a little ol' prude!

I saw that chick in Greensboro. LOL -you ain't funky at all, you just a little ol' prude!

He said something similar in NYC. "Love Hurts. Your lies, they cut me. Now your words don't mean a thing. I don't give a damn if you ever loved me..." -Cher, "Woman's World"
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
What he said was: "You all is old. You all is old. And I still look the same." And the thing is, he does still look the same. And those in the audience, I was noticing before the show, we all are getting old. I don't think I've ever seen so many grey heads at a rock concert before. But it was cool, because interspersed with those grey heads was a lot of younger folks too. He can really draw in a diverse crowd.

Something I thought was really cool about this concert is that Prince was hands on with a lot of the people he would pull up on stage. There were a couple of girls that he brought on stage in which he started doing the "Bump" with them, and acted like they bumped him across the stage. He was holding out his hand and helping people up the stairs. Another guy he brought on stage would put his arm around Prince's shoulders and Prince seemed very open to it. It was amazing to see. He seemed very accessible to those on stage.

I noticed that, too. A couple of years ago, there was a strict "no touching" policy. Seemed like everybody was grabbing a handful of Prince last night.

It was subtle, but there was definitely a Camille-ish effect on his microphone.

How was the duet of Nothing Compares 2 U with Lalah? It has the potential to be great, was it?
