Oh shit wait: I forgot about the dancing during kiss was sick. And the best was FUCKING BAMBI !!!!! Jesus Christ I couldn't believe it!!!!! Oh god it was so incredible. tsjustaroundthecorner said: Ok here goes: this was my 21st or 22nd prince show. It was THE BEST show I've ever been to !!!!! I am one of the crazy die hards who are difficult to please. I always want when doves cry, or I hate Larry Graham or don't play covers. I'm THAT person. This show was INSANE ! It was PACKED! My god, there were so many people there. First off: HE DID MOUNTAINS !!!!! I went nuts. People thought I was crazy. It's one of my all time faves and I've never heard it live in person. I was in heaven. Then the show just felt like a non stop party of hits. And love bizarre was so great. Carlos santana was awesome. Let's work was so funky. U gotbthe look / raspberry beret / cream was a great way to start. But he did a FULL version of adore! C'mon!,!!!!! It was nuts. The girl next to me and I were screaming like we were 15 years old. And hands sown the best version of purple rain I've ever seem. Sang it pretty straight, less vocal improv which really really helped. And then to close he did Dreamer!!!! I fucking love that song. It was so special. I'll never forget it. Thank u Prince!

Considering Cream and Insatiable came out in 1991, the set contains only one original Prince number from the last 20 years, and that one is a blatant rip off of a Jimi Hendrix song......
And 25% of the tracks were not released as or not written by Prince. So much for "so many hits, so little time"....Its becoming nothing more than an Old School Revue.

The show was....off da hook! Again as was the case in New York, we danced all night long, I'm exhausted. I'll post more this evening.
Prince = fantasmic, sexy, sexy, sexy! Sheila = workin those drums Larry G. = one in a million Santana = unbelievable Shelby J. = sista adds so much to the show
The arena was jam-packed. Aside from the long wait in line to pick up the ticket, everything went off without a hitch. Seats were GREAT! from Controversy to Dreamer Prince brought the funk to the house!
Can't wait until Wednesday's show. And, now that there's a Thursday show......Friday's my day of birth...it would be great to go to all three shows. So, I'm putting it out there, anyone with an extra ticket for Thursday, orgnote me......

Maybe I'm overly sensitive but Prince pissed me off by singing "You don't have to watch..."the L Word"...to have an attitude." He sang that while rolling his eyes. I thought 1) that's a really old reference 2) How rude is that to say with all my lesbian sisters rocking out to his music.
Pissed me off.

The worry is, he is trading on reputation. He tried that with his albums and the sales died off.
P live was always stunning, but more and more the concert concepts and track choices show a lack of care. Coupled with so many show cancelations, I hope he doesn't whittle away his live reputation too. Then he will go broke. .

Thank you for all the reviews and pictures. For all of us who have never seen Prince in concert it is enjoyable to live through those who have.

Cool show. Sheila E, Santana and Larry, the nite was full of treats! Love when he played Cool. That brought many memories. Adore was a highlight I would say. Now Bambi, that was a true hardcore admirer treat. Only the drums, bass and guitar with the lights on. Too Hot! That symbol stage is freakin' so cool lit up! It brings a different vibe to the show. In reference to "The L Word", hasn't he put that in there for a few shows now? I've seen him mention it a few times in different videos. Now the rolling of the eyes while saying it is a different story. I also wanted to add, I never want to complain. I enjoyed to show to the fullest. I paid $88 (w/ticketmaster fee) and I was the highest anyone could be as far as seating goes. My question is where would have the $50 seats been.

Sounds like Prince did his job in Oakland and it's good to see how people who actually went to the show enjoyed it unlike those who seemed bored by it and weren't anywhere near California to have an opinion.
And as for "The L Word", he used that with all the shows he did in NYC/NJ and he didn't seem to roll his eyes with that. I was annoyed with it after the 2nd shows because I was like "wow, he must not watch a lot of TV to keep coming up with this show and the show's not even on anymore" I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

Put me down on the Good Show side of things. I have seen a few and was concerned it was going to be very by the numbers. I know some major parts of it were similar to other recent shows, but not only did those parts rock, I really felt we got some inspired moments. The Santana Medley went on forever. Not only did Santana play (with Prince's Hohner, in a way I have never seen him play), but Prince also played some of the difficult breaks on piano, and finished out the medley in good style on guitar.
Full version of Adore. Bambi encore -- I freaked out. Been a while since I freaked out at a show.
Lines for food, drink, and bathrooms were even reasonable. One of the best arena shows I have seen in a while, and maybe even the best Prince show (out of only five...) Every now and then

You are NOT overly sensitive. Prince has every right to his own beliefs and dated pop culture references. BUT... we also have the right to call him on that shit. LAME.

as per usual, good to know that the people who went had a blast and the people who didn't thought it was laaaaaaame

Actually I was there last night and for his CitiBank show in SF a few years back. I've supported Prince and his career for over 25 years now. I had a good time at both shows but I am not deaf to his sometimes bigoted stunts/comments.

- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
True.. He could start saying "Real Housewives" now because there is sure enough a lot of "attitude" on those shows and you don't need one to watch it. I believe one time he said "Tabatha's Hair Salon" if I'm not mistaken during one of his shows in NYC? Correct me if I'm wrong. So he pretty much has mentioned different shows now, when singing that song at various performances.

If you don't understand why songs like Cool, Glam life, and Love Bizarre are entirely appropriate---and to some people PREFERRED--songs at a Prince concert, you probably don't belong in the audience.

Often when he sings the song "Kiss" at his shows, he mentions different tv shows in place of "Dynasty", a night-time soap opera that came on back in the early 80s. [Edited 2/22/11 12:13pm]

Wow... Mountains??? Can someone who was there tell us what the arrangement was like? was it the whole song of Mountains? Did he do the weird changes right before the ending part (the strange chord progression part)? Did he do any of the extended parts?
I saw hime say the "L" word at Both Dec MSG shows and it was just "whatever" I don't think he intended it to be homophobic (and I'm gay) but I didn't see eye rolls. Bear in mind he also has recently said "The Tavis Smiley show" too (maybe he said that one night actualy since Tavis was at the show)..... I think it's his strange sense of humor, not meant as an attack.

I was happy to hear Mountains! Does he often play that song live?
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Larry Graham seemed to be ending his set with "Thank you falletinme be myself," and then prince came on and played "Moutains" (yeah, the whole song, no extension, i didn't catch any major changes), and then Larry Graham came back and they did "Everyday People" and "I Wanna Take You Higher" together!

Cool.
@ Sunmaid5: I don't think he's played it live ina long time! Revolution played it at the Family Jamm though.
Also, the part i'm wondering about is right before the end, the horns do this little progression before you jhust hear the beat..... I doubt he did that if he went into another song.... it's kind of how the song ends before the fade out.
