Actually he played it once at msg in NYC I. 2004 at the second night of the Musicology tour. Maybe he felt it was an appropriate choice being he was in the San Francisco area. a2grafix said:
Bambi hasn't been played since after Celebration 2001 gigs. Remember Prince ripping the Hohener to shreds at Joe Louis in June 2001 in Detroit.

a friend who went txt me. they bought 90 tickets and were upgraded to the 300 seats. so, clearly it was not sold out.
I may get tickets tomorrow morning for the Thursday show, since the possibility of a public after show is looking sketchy.

I was on the floor, and looking up and around, the arena looked sold out to me, although there were a couple of empty VIP tables that they filled after Larry Graham.

No Cali4ornia tour book yet. Had the NYC chocolate bars. Looks like I will be returning Wednesday and Thursday.

Any reports on new W2A merchandise compared 2 the NYC concerts?
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Not true. He played Bambi at the Ellenn show in 2004 for the audience after the tv broadcast ended.
He also played it a few times on his Musicology tour. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Musicology_Tour [Edited 2/22/11 1:51am]

The tour merchandise seemed to be the same with the exception of the tour book. The vendor said they were supposed to have them, but they didn't show up.
Arggggh.
I do think it's strange to have t-shirts with song titles from 20ten (Compassion / Everybody Loves Me) when it hasn't been released here.
Chocolate bars, symbol necklace, guitar picks, raspberry beret, posters, all the usual stuff from NYC shows, except tourbook and tamborines (did they have those in NYC?)

so he only plays bambi now when it's wildly inapropriate? i mean, on ellen and in SF?

Please.

That is like asking who Lenny Kravitz is, but worse. Safer for you to google then ask a Prince fan base that is 99% musically fine-tuned and cultivated. Just sayin'

from the vault:
uptown raspberry beret cream cool lets work u got the look [w/sheila e] the glamorous life [w/sheila e, including soul sacrifice coda w/santana] misty blue [shelby j] a love bizarre [w/sheila e] controversy purple rain
kiss if i was ur girlfriend rude boy [w. shelb, live, elisa, no prince] insatiable scandalous adore
bambi dreamer
damn. well, at least the second encore was interesting. misplaced, but interesting.
the rest of the show looks like a total snooze
people will say "you had to be there". but i've seen the footage of the 20Ten and the welcome to america shows this far and heard all the bootlegs. it's just boring.

this is one of those tours again where you can put the initial night in a folder and then just keep the one off songs from the rest of the shows.
and just 1 song from post 1989 again
even the "welcome 2 america" song or any other new stuff is missing here. and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

ok it'd be worth it just for bambi but otherwise i don't wear a cross?!!? i wear a prince symbol I When Prince's cum dries, diamonds are formed. no one tops prince in concert!

Well, I count 3 songs post 1989. Try again, it's easy.

When I saw him at MSG in January, I thought the was going to play Bambi. It sounded like he started it, but then it became Anotherloverholenyohead, followed by Dreamer. California is lucky to have cheaper prices. I hope he keeps the promise that he made at the February NYC show to come back soon and not make us wait. He said he loved NYC. NeoSoul.com

Dont forget he played Mountains during the Larry Graham set too...
I was happy to see things mixed up. Loved Insatiable, Scandalous and Adore. If I was your Girlfriend was also great.. The guitar shredding was fierce last night in general. He played some wicked solos throughout the night. Santana tore it up. Even Prince was like... Ohhee! Then after Adore, the house lights came on and the crowd started booing and screaming for more and Prince came back out with the house lights still on just with bass and drums and he ripped into a furious version of Bambi. After a while the house lights went back off and he settled in again to the crowds delight. Then he did a Hendrix inspired launch into Dreamer which was a raw guitar assault on the crowd. Overall it was a little weird to go to a Prince show and not hear 1999 or Let's Go Crazy but I will take Bambi and Dreamer happily. Only thing missing from the night for me was the piano solo with How Come U Don't Call, Sometimes it snows etc. I am guessing with Santana there, Prince wanted to show his guitar shredding off. Which he more than did. [Edited 2/22/11 6:27am] [Edited 2/22/11 6:29am] ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

He played that song during the Musicology tour, at least for the 7/13/04 show I went to at MSG. I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

Ok here goes: this was my 21st or 22nd prince show. It was THE BEST show I've ever been to !!!!! I am one of the crazy die hards who are difficult to please. I always want when doves cry, or I hate Larry Graham or don't play covers. I'm THAT person. This show was INSANE ! It was PACKED! My god, there were so many people there. First off: HE DID MOUNTAINS !!!!! I went nuts. People thought I was crazy. It's one of my all time faves and I've never heard it live in person. I was in heaven. Then the show just felt like a non stop party of hits. And love bizarre was so great. Carlos santana was awesome. Let's work was so funky. U gotbthe look / raspberry beret / cream was a great way to start. But he did a FULL version of adore! C'mon!,!!!!! It was nuts. The girl next to me and I were screaming like we were 15 years old. And hands sown the best version of purple rain I've ever seem. Sang it pretty straight, less vocal improv which really really helped. And then to close he did Dreamer!!!! I fucking love that song. It was so special. I'll never forget it. Thank u Prince!
