Reading Dr. Funkenberry & Questlove's tweets and here's the news from them:

The Twinz are on stage dancing with Prince, will be with him for all future shows, and one of them slipped on some purple confetti.

Opened with a medley...When Doves Cry, then said too many hits.

First full song was Kiss, followed by Take Me With U, Anotherloverholeinyohead, Cream and Cool

Questlove has blocked Dr. Funkenberry from reposting his tweets, oh and Prince got the crowd doing the Electric Slide.

Will post more once they post more.

biggrin

[Edited 1/18/11 18:51pm]

Add U Got the Look, Let's Work and Raspberry Beret to the setlist.

No clue of what order the setlist because they are all over the place with their posts.

Maceo's on stage with him playing and singing to some chick from Gossip Girl (not the blond one Questlove says).

[Edited 1/18/11 18:54pm]

Prince is doing Dreamer!

one more observation- not one song being played from Emancipation at all on this tour. I'm very surprised by that. I think Somebody's Somebody would work well as a segue into another song, even if he only did one verse. and Face Down would just kill- i think i would like to hear that in place of where "let's work" is done in the middle medley.

i'm still holding out for the love we make as stated in the back of the tour book pray

thanks 4 the video of dreamer it just made me thankful that i also don't have floor seats cause u can't see the symbol stage and how it lights up from being that close. the lighting for dreamer with the red white and blue hitting the stage was hot!!

the love we make....

omg eyepop

I would croak.

yea, i agree. i would think that with the amount of women that go to his shows, he almost has to do TMBGITW. i also have a soft spot for the Gold Experience- that is one of my favorite eras of his- the mid '90's Prince from "Come-Gold Experience-Emancipation" -such a burst of creativity in a short amount of time. Oh, one more thing, i would just lose it if he actually performed "Space"- but now i know i ask too much !!

HELL YEAH!! SPACE!! ENDORPHINEMACHINE!! GOLD!! STYLE!! EMANCIPATION!! JOINT 2 JOINT!! SOUL SACTUARY!! LETITGO!! PRINCE R U LISTENING?!!!

If that man ever sang Endorphinmachine in front of me...

I would seriously CROAK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And would love to hear Space, Style, Joint 2 Joint....

Travelled with my fiance to NY from Albuquerque and I am so happy we did. It was our first time there and it was a great time for us. I have seen Prince live 14 times now including three Musicology shows and 2 3121 shows in Vegas. This show was better than all the rest to me. The combination of the setlist, energy from the crowd and Prince entertaining was magnificent. It was great to hear songs that I have never witnessed live like "Dreamer", "I Love U but I don't trust u anymore, and "S.H.O.E.". It is absolutely incredible to me that this man can still put on the type of show that he does. Prince was clearly enjoying himself and was full of energy. I love that he is dancing on the piano again. What other artist has ever done that? NONE! Let alone try it when they are in their 50's. He looks younger and more physically fit than he has in recent years. He seems to have more muscle tone. Successful hip surgery? Who knows but he is definantely moving better and is obviously more comfortable doing dance moves he hadn't been doing the past few years. His dancing combined with his guitar playing and his gift to work the crowd are still 2nd to none. I have seen some of the younger stars such as Justin Timberlake, Usher & Lady Gaga over the past 4-5 years and they are not even close as individual performers. They are all missing something. Their shows are more about the xtra curricular things going on on stage such as costumes, 30 dancers and crazy light shows. Gaga has potential. Lets see where she takes it. Prince is still the ultimate live performer and there is not a close 2nd...in my humble opinion...but I am an expert when it comes to these things. lol

I often see people on this site complain about set lists from shows even though they were not at the show to witness the performance 1st hand. Every orger should know by now that Prince is great at changing up the music and/or tempo to any song that he wants. I loved hearing Kiss "live" this week as much as I did when I saw the Parade tour. This leads me to my next point.

Lets have a New Rule on the orger sight. No complaining about set lists if you were not at the concert.

Thanks for the show Prince. Cost of trip to NY -$$$$. Seeing Prince perform one of his best shows ever-Priceless

P.S.

We saw Morris Day and the Time Friday night in Albuquerque as a warmup to Prince. That was fun. Morris can still jam and he says some funny things. They also performed "Cool" so I was looking forward to comparing. The Time hit it. Prince smashed it. U ladies know the difference between getting "hit" and getting "smashed".lol

That's a fun coincidence--you both saw Morris Day and the Time as a warmup to the Prince MSG concerts--I saw the Time as a follow-up to the Izod concerts in December! Prince was as stellar as you mentioned in your review, especially on the 17th, and Morris Day, as you say, can still deliver a great performance. Can't beat that combination of concerts! Especially, with Sheila E. showing up! biggrin

I loved his opening Medley. I was surprised he would even do anything with these songs so to have even a taste was satisfying enough for me. He did quite a bit of 'Black Sweat' too. Nice to see him acknowledge his other hits even if only for a few seconds. It also seemed like he shortened Purple Rain and Raspberry Beret to me to make way for waaaayyy better songs. No 1999 on this show either. That's another reason it was the best soo far...not as predictable as the previous shows because I was totally expecting that 12 minute version of PR and 1999 at any minute...thank Jebus one was shortened and the other was absent.

He worked the whole stage this time which surprised me because I don't remember him doing the head of the Symbol very much on the last two shows but it was nice that those sitting behind the drums got to see him more this time around. I wish I could go to the 7th with you guys but it's not gonna happen and I'm not extremely disappointed about it considering that I just remembered that he'll be doing that Charity event in Dallas the day before and then having to fly back to NYC for the show. If he's doing a show on the 8th also, I don't know if I want to go to that one either. I think that's one of the main reasons why the 12/18 show was so disappointing. Back to Back shows like that seem to wear him out a little but that's just from my perspective. Have fun 4 me and someone better let me know if he plays anything out of the usual...got my own personal concert stored on my computer so I'm good.

boogie highfive i got ya covered!! hug

I have to say that I am still on a high after Tuesday's concert. After the 29th, I was like so-so and wasn't looking all that forward to Tuesday night figuring it would be good, but basically the same as all the others. Today, having had a chance for it all to sink in, I could see another few shows if they are like that, it was really that good.

I pray that on the 7th there will be one short opening act like the 18th so he has plenty of time to play and entertain us the way he did on the 18th and the way we have come to expect him to over the years.

I'm glad you laughed. I like to make people laugh. I really was just being honest though.

purplemookie... I saw those red pants too .... these purple ones were even better. I didn't think it could get better, but I was wrong. I guess it was the viewing angle that did it. Out of the 4 shows that I saw his penis, I saw it best at this last one.

You know I don't think I've stopped talking about his seeing his penis bouncing around since I first saw it in 2004 at the Musicology show. Every time I mention I'm seeing Prince or I saw him, that's what comes out of my mouth next... his lack of underpants and nicely shaped bouncing muffin massager.

was Madonna thier?

nod Yep, apparently she was there according to this article I found on Princefams.com from source Contact Music.com

Superstars PRINCE and MADONNA have ended their decades-long feud after the MATERIAL GIRL turned up to one of his recent New York concerts and cheered him on from the crowd.

The pop idols were close friends throughout the 1980s and briefly became lovers before teaming up to record the track Love Song, from Madonna's 1988 album Like a Prayer.

But they suffered a mystery fall-out and their relationship turned bitter as they took shots at one another through the media.

In subsequent interviews, Madonna blasted Prince as a "little troll" and criticised his refusal to eat during one dinner date.

She said, "He was just sipping tea, very daintily. I have this theory about people who don't eat. They annoy me."

Their spat continued throughout the years and Prince most recently took aim at mother-of-four Madonna at a concert in London in 2007, when he quipped, "I got so many hits y'all can't handle me. I got more hits than Madonna's got kids!"

But the old pals now appear to have put their differences to rest - according to UsMagazine.com, Madonna was spotted in the audience at Prince's Madison Square Garden gig on Tuesday (18Jan11), singing and clapping along to the soul star's hits.

And Prince even acknowledged Madonna's presence by giving her a special shout out from the stage, after joking about the high-price of their concert tickets.

I was totally trying to figure out why he threw her name out after making that 'I know I'm expensive' comment. She didn't come on stage with the other celebrities so she either left early or didn't want to join the onstage festivities. Man, we were saying a few years back that it would have been the ultimate tour to have MJ, Prince, and Madonna in the same venue at the same time but boy that would be a diva bitch fight right there...wonder who would have won that one. lol

HI Every All,

U know what 2 do?

Let's just all have fun 2nite? 4get about the negative, just enjoy the evening!!!

One LOVE heart

Here's my review:

The ticket for Welcome 2 America said 7:30. I guess that's when Sharon Jones
started because when I arrived a little before 8:00 p.m. she was performing her
last song on stage shaped like Prince's trademark symbol.

About 40 minutes later, a little man rose from the dark near a piano on the
curly left side of the TAFKAP symbol: "Have you taken enough pictures?"
Then the opening guitar intro to When Doves Cry drove the crowd wild until
Prince stopped it. Then played samples of other songs: Hot Thing, Sign o the
Times, which he started to sing, then stopped, then Pop Life. "Too many hits."
he said. The music from Darling NIkki began. "Please don't make me do that one."
said the Jehovah's Witness. Then Black Sweat, Pop LIfe, screams from Alphabet
Street, then finally he began with "Kiss", not just the whole song, the extended
version. Take Me With U followed, as twin dancers and 3 back up singers ran
around the stage. The intro to Bambi changed quickly to the rock version of
Anotherloverholenyohead, with the Rock Lobster riff thrown in for good measure.
Then Shhhh. He gave us permission to sit. After that slow jam was done, he
began Controversy, Musicology, Which Way Is Up, asked if anyone know about the
quake, then went back to Controversy. He asked the audience to join him in
Raspberry Beret, followed by Cream. Then it was time for Cool, Let's Work, and U
Got the Look. The man needed a break and a costume change so the back up
singers sang Sarah MacLachlan's Angel. Then he brought a female audience member
on stage to sing Somewhere Here on Earth, which switched to I Love U, But I
Don't Trust U Anymore. He started to rock again with She's Always In My Hair and
Dreamer (from Lotusflow3r, available for 99 cents at Target). I though he was
going to perform a new song called Welcome 2 America, but it was just a verse,
not a song. He played Purple Rain and said good night. He came back out with
Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings to perform a Love Bizarre. Then he sang If I Was
Your Girlfriend, Insatiable, Scandalous, and Adore.

After a very short break, he started Dance (Disco Heat), invited the people who paid $700.00 to dance on stage, including Jimmy Fallon, and then segued into Baby I'm A Star. Now it was
time for Let's Go Crazy, Delirious, 1999, and the show closer Peach, during
which he mentioned that he doesn't eat shellfish because the Bible tells him not to. He had the audience do a cool cell phone screen light waving back and forth during one of
the songs. The show was over by 11, but if the crowd was louder, I'm sure he
have gladly come out to do Little Red Corvette, Beautiful Ones, and I Wanna Be
Your Lover, like he had done at other shows. If you can get a seat on the arrow
side of the symbol, go to the show. It's a small band but an amazing show.

Man, this was THE show right here!!! Everything about last night was just amazing. I took the #3 train from work to the Garden and the way the train was ZOOMING down Broadway in Manhattan, I just knew it was gonna be a great night and sure enough, I was right! Me and a few others went to this restaurant called "Stout" by the Garden and while we were there, they played the "Sign O The Times" movie on ALL the screens! That hyped me and my crew up!!!! Then I met up with my uncle who came to the show with me and he met a bunch of the Purple bunch and saw what the Purple World is like. lol When inside, I could hear Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings and they were killing it. I wish I had seen the whole set but next time they are here, I'm going to see them, no doubt! Then we got to our seats, which were real good, Section 132, and my uncle and I had the time of our life!

Y'all know what the setlist is at this point but I tell you, to hear a bunch of song from after 1991 was the highlight for me and hearing Anotherloverholyinyohead live was amazing! And the beginning was with all of them songs he did a sample of, man, I was like a little girl up in there, and I'm a grown man!! lol lol This was the best show because of the more obscure songs and it was the longest show of the Welcome 2 America series. It was so good to see and meet people from the Org 6 and other people that I know from the Purple World. It just made the experience that much better! I'm at work right now just wishing that it was Feb 7th already! Prince is the man, PERIOD!!!!!! music headbang dancing jig

Every time I mention I'm seeing Prince or I saw him, that's what comes out of my mouth next... his lack of underpants and nicely shaped bouncing muffin massager.

falloff lol lol lol

Hey girl. I have been texting L4OA and he was telling how amazing this setlist was. I hate that I could not make it!! That setlist is just insane! I loved the 18th MSG show, but this one takes the cake, really!!!! I would have loved to hear Dreamer live. Arghhhhh

Hey NPGgirl! We met each other on the 18th in line getting ready to enter MSG! I truly wish you were @ this show! It's 3 days later and I still do not have a voice!!!!!!!

I know girl, I wish I could have made it to this one. But, living 8 hours away is no small jump when you have work and school sad I am SO glad you all had a blast though...man, those songs...Whew lawd!!!! smile

I sure hope we can all get together and meet up again for future Princely things. smile

That's what I was thinking as I stood amidst the awesomeness!! I was beside myself!! I couldn't believe the sitters & drinkers around me in section 110. SERIOUSLY?!? You paid this much to SIT??? How is that humanly possible?? I was on my feet the whole time and loved every minute of it. THE BEST! Can't wait till Feb 7 in section 20. It's been a month of purple euphoria for me (started Dec 18)!!!

^^^ You are not alone! Many of us who have seen him lately feel the same way... Not disappointed or jaded at all! I was delighted when I saw him at the Izod performing songs that I didn't expect...and my son got to see him for the first time! What a thrill for both of us! Wish I coulda been there tonight! biggrin

you are not alone- i actually could do without hearing Purple Rain from him. am i crazy for thinking this? do you think P gets bored by now doing this one? could he actually do a show and NOT play it? thoughts please....

I overheard one of the $200 "sitters" in my section (110) hollering, somewhat drunkenly, "I wanna hear Purple Rain again!!" Seriously? C'mon, man! It was the ONLY time he stood up during that full-on wonderful night! Shame!

I'm sorry... I'll keep saying it: It is not MANDATORY to be on your feet during the whole show. That is a choice. lol

Those fools who light a joint as soon as the lights go down irritate the hell out me. nod

After the concert, there was a girl in the bathroom who was so drunk her friends cut the whole line to carry her in. This trashy Snooky-lookin' heifer took off her nasty thong right there (and she was BAREFOOT!) and tried to pee in the sink! eek

The MSG worker flipped out on them, and a woman let them take the next stall. Her friend was in there trying to make her vomit.

Sooo.... how much of the show did THAT prize see? confused

I may be mistaken, but, are you a teacher? Thought I saw an earlier comment you made regarding "teaching half of what they know" bit. If so... I'm a teacher too. I hear ya'.

Almost bought one of these, was SO tempted, but then my son said what are you going to do with it? Like you don't have enough Prince stuff hanging on the wall--including a giant wooden symbol! So, I passed...darn it! lol

Yes, I am. smile

I love Prince and all, but he shouldn't speak about things he knows nothing about.

"Waiting for Superman" created way too many "armchair quarterbacks" where education is concerned. rolleyes

From comments on http://www.brooklynvegan....d_m_1.html

"but i have one very serious issue and it is with what a complete and total loser leighton meester is. not to mention a terrible actor - i mean she couldn't even FAKE it? she was so uptight so she looked like she was in pain while one of the sexiest men in the world was seranading her. seriously it almost killed the entire mood of the show. prince had to work it doubletime to bring it back after that horrorshow. WHAT. A. LOSER. YOU. ARE. LEIGHTON!!! just completely unforgivable. good luck getting laid after THAT. jeez!"

Was this chick really this bad?.... Was she shell shock from Superstar Prince singing to her Or was it the song that scared her to go from Somewhere Here On Earth to I Love U But I Don't Trust U Anymore is quite drastic, hee hee?!?!?!?
