That was NOT Prince. I am 1000% sure. It is a guy from Chicago, named Marcus. (He used to go to Prince night at Berlin all the time; I would see him there almost every month.) Furthermore, he showed up at Butter, wearing the same outfit and they would not let him in.
The check. The string he dropped. The Mona Lisa. The musical notes taken out of a hat. The glass. The toy shotgun painting. The things he found. Therefore, everything seen–every object, that is, plus the process of looking at it–is a Duchamp.

Hmm...I had a feeling that may have been him. Well, he sure fooled many in that audience last night. I can see them now telling family/friends that they got to speak to Prince last night, unfortunately not aware it wasn't him. Lawd.

i am the first one to dog prince's recent setlists....
but i gotta say.. this seems like the best blend of 'cult faves' with big hits...
i think most of us arent opposed to the big hits,, we just want a better mix.. and with stuff that hasnt been played as much....
the question of u and shes always in my hair..... that is awesome........
next time: JOY IN REPETITION!

The impersonator fooled a lot of people! I was sitting in section 21, so he walked right by our section on the floor. I screamed and jumped up and down and ran down the stairs to meet him. I only stomped down one stair when "Prince" motioned me to stop. And like some kind of dog, I did! Crazy fan moment. At one point he kissed a woman's head. But I was too through when I looked closely at him, his mouth was different than Prince's. But he worked hard at that costume! White pants and jacket, glitter in his hair, dark shades, and he smelled like lavender (didn't check the shoes). Ah well. It was funny, but the chaos that ensued when he appeared kinda overpowered Mint Condition, who might have had another song. They didn't get their props because of him, which was kinda messed up. But they kinda bored me anyway time flies.

I was suprised at his mood too! And when I saw those red pants...hahaha. It made me smile. And I couldn't help but notice that when he opened his shirt, he was still just as muscular as he ever was! time flies.

First i can't believe that most of the Garden went crazy for a impersonator... I took one look at dude and KNEW it wasnt Prince.... plus dude walked past our group by boarders after the show
Second. The Empire State building was Purple last night.
Third. although this was my 4th concert this month i had a great time..
fourth. Ms Monae was on fire last night
Fifth. It was nice that he dedicated Uptown to Teena Marie [Edited 12/30/10 9:29am]

Agree with the 4th part of your comment. She did great last night. Love the energy of her band. She got a good applause at the end of her performance. [Edited 12/30/10 9:29am]

I know what you mean, however p. mentioned in a recent interview he's all too aware of th need to crowd please with classic hits, hence these 'samey' setlists.
But Montreux 2009 shows us that he can put together setlists for more discerning/hardcore crowds (as was ONA).
He knows what's needed and it makes sense his current setlists are the way they are.
I went to 17 o2 main shows and recently Rome/Milan 20ten gigs and I got a bit bored in Italy (over staurated from o2) but I think the current American shows sound great, particulary izod 17/12/10...
It's worth it alone for the reworked LRC then songs like Cool. Sheila there too is great to see/hear on Love Bizarre, full length versions of adore, the beautiful ones, saimh etc etc
What else would he need to playing right now to major arena cowds?? I think he's got it right.

Ok, here's my review of last night's show.
First, the show was very different from the first MSG performance on Dec 18th, and if I had to choose which concert I thought was better, I would choose the 18th. I think the electricity that Sheil E brought to the show on the 18th put that show over the top. That's nbot to say I didn't love the 29th's show - I did, and here is why:
"She's Always in My Hair" - WOW!!! I wasn't expecting that, and it was great seeing him perform one of my fav Prince songs - same goes for "If I was Your Girlfriend".
"Little Red Corvette" - Love the song, loved the arrangement, glad he played more than just 30 seconds of the song like he normally does.
"How Come You Don't Call Me Anymore" - Wow! the whole piano medly was amazing and this song always sends the shivers down my spine. He should play this song at EVERY performance!!!
The negatives:
Well, in this era of pretty high ticket prices, most top performers seem to play much longer concerts. Most shows I have been to over the past few years have all been over 2-hours and in most cases 2-1/2 hours or more. I wouldn't mind so much if Prince played concerts in the U.S. more than just every 6-years or so. But when seeing Prince live is a relative rarity here, I wan't more than a 1hr 45min show.
My only other negative, and I am seemingly in the minority here, was "Gingerbread Man". When he started playing "The Question of U" - I was really excited - i freakin' LOVE that song - but he decided to the Gingerbread Man lyrics and that disappointed me.

Everyone in Chicago knows that's Marcus. When we saw Prince this past summer in Werchter, Belgium, Marcus got the same reaction. The pictures. The awes. The double takes. I was so happy when Prince finally took the stage.

This was my third Prince concert ever (my second this year, I also went to IZOD on 12/17). Both shows were EXCELLENT in their own right. The highlight of this show for me was the performance of "Let's Work". That surprised the hell outta me! If I had to choose between the two shows I would choose the IZOD show because of his performance with Sheila E. They were on FIYA!!!
Also, J.Monae is awesome! If life is fair, and sometimes it is, she will have a long and successful career!
p.s. I'm considering the Jan 18th show at MSG!!!! And if he takes the show on the road to southern Cal my brother Maurice will be getting a visit from me!

And there's the answer as to why he does it. Plus, the potential for getting VIP treatment by folks who really don't know it's not Prince.

The Prince imposter should be thrown in jail. The way people started pushing and shoving to get near him created a safety issue. People literally jammed the aisles and I couldn't believe how people fell for it, and I bet half those people will spend the rest of their lives thinking they actually got that close to Prince.
I also want to comment on the people defending last night's set list. As I mentioned in a previous post, I was disappointed that it contained mostly the familiar hits we've heard live over and over again. I know there's no way everyone will be happy with every song choice, but I have to wonder who Prince is catering to and who he thinks his fan base is these days. Someone suggested that the not so familiar songs should only be played for the diehards at the aftershows. Well you know what, there were plenty of diehards at MSG last night, myself included.
And since when does being a diehard require that you go to aftershows? I've only been to two aftershows in my life and for both of those, I knew I was getting in before I got there. Don't confuse the word diehard with fanatic, which I think many people who went to Butter last night are. It also blows my mind that people think they are entitled to be let in to an aftershow simply because they showed up in the cold or because of how much money they spent, but I digress.
Again, I'll just reiterate that given Prince's huge catalog of songs, there was no reason he couldn't have played a better mix of familiar and not so familiar tunes. I bet the casual fans still would have gone home happy if he only played half the hits that he did last night. I would have loved to have heard songs from the newer albums, as well as stuff from The Gold Experience, Chaos and Disorder, Come, etc. One of the highlights of last night's show for me was The Gingerbread Man. A lot of people really liked it, including the casual fans, and although it was sort of like The Question of U, it was essentially a new song which I think is proof enough that not almost every song played needed to be a hit.

Yeah, someone could have gotten hurt but I couldn't really tell from that far and I was thinking that can't be him because the real Prince does not do that. What is amazing are those who were up close and were still fooled. One girl ran up and gave him one of those really tight bear hugs. My boyfriend was like uh oh security!
Also, I didn't think he should have done that while Mint Condition was performing because it kind of took the attention away from them and that was a little unfair.

I'm leaning towards the December 17 IZOD too only because of Sheila E and the encores with the house lights on and him signing all the classic ballads at the end including Adore. But like I said each show has its on vibe and the show last night had its great moments too. [Edited 12/30/10 12:50pm]

What more is Amazing, you could say from 1991 - 2010, this brother hasn't had few darn songs he could add to his set list that people would know or was a semi hit!!!! 19 years after "Cream" and hes playing the same ole tired songs!

I can already tell that it's not him. He's got chubby cheeks.
