Just a thought too. The aftershows have always been an added plus to the concerts. but lately it seems that fans have to come expect it, myself included, even though the past two concerts in NJ and NY I realize I'm too old for them now and too tired after the regular concerts so I go home. I just think we got spoiled. and maybe Prince is bothered by the sense of entitlement. Alot of artists don't even do aftershows. Maybe there's something to that. Now not excusing for those who waited outside, I do feel for you guys, I would have been dissappointed too, but Idk, many artists after a big concert retreat back to their own private world and the question is, is their right to, after all they already gave you a two hour show, now what more do you want? and maybe that is where Prince is. Just my two cents. Hope I'm making sense.

Just want to say that I understand everyone's disappointment but what it all comes down to is that we can be happy Prince is still here and we can see him perform! As long as he does, there is always a chance for a "next time". Happy New Year and hopefully many many more purple ones to come with our favorite artist!

Very true. Starting in the early 90s. For the private parties/shows you just had to know who to work to get in. I'm sure it's the same way now too. Waiting in a line of fans will get you nowhere.

Wow. I feel bad for the fans that waited outside and didn´t get in, but as others have said in this thread those shows are always a gamble. Yall should really know this by now, you know how unpreditcable Prince can be about pretty much everything. I also am a bit miffed but not surpriesd at the ¨VIP¨treatment that´s been happening with the NYC aftershows as far as celebrities are concerned.They always seem to get special treatment for being celebs and regular folks kinda get pushed aside. It happens alot in NYC, so I guess I´m just used to it.

It's like many popular clubs in NYC that customers try to get in, and end up waiting for hours hoping to get in, but many don't unless they have some type of connection or the bodyguard at the door makes the choice. When the W2A press conference was held at the Apollo in October, it was "announced" through various sources/unofficial fan sites, that fans could attend and it was free. Although he didn't perform, he was nice enough to let fans at any level in to that free event, whether you were a diehard, casual or new fan. So yes, once in a while fans get freebies. To be honest, even if he did let some fans into some of those recent afterhows, some of them, not all, would have complained that he played the same old hits, forgetting this was not exactly a "private party specifically for them" instead of appreciating the fact that they were given the opportunity to be "let in" to a private event in the first place, whether Prince chose to play familiar songs or not for an aftershow.

Well said. Some people want to have everything ... and then they still find sth to complain about! And then they wonder why Prince is not more "fan friendly". - If you are never pleased with anything he does, how can you expect him to give more than he already does with his regular concerts?

Well I was one of the people who waited in line to go to the afterparty and when it got to 3am, I was done. My feet had had enough and I was FREEZING. Lucky for me, the 6 train was down the street and I took it home. Even with that, I don't regret going and it did NOT kill my night at all. I CHOSE to go down to Butter, even with the possibility of there not being a show or a show open to the general public. I knew all that going down there and I still had fun wating in line. It's just another story to add to great ones I have for the shows that have been here in NY. I just know now that if I hear there is an afterparty and not an aftershow, I will go home Fun times!

It's alright. It's not that serious to me. Maybe the band members thought we could go in, but like some have said, they and anyone else in Prince's camp shouldn't have put that out there unless they knew that fans could come in. Even with that, it didn't kill the spirit I had from hours earlier. I'm still excited about Jan 18th and all the other shows I've seen and I do hope we get a special intimate-type of show before Prince is done with the tri-state area.

What a shame, sorry to the folks that had to stand out there. Yes, we make a choice to do anything in life, people being disrespectful isn't cool though. I don't care if the aftershow was private or not, a simple "Sorry, no chance of getting in" would have been sufficient. Not telling folks that is wrong and that kind of crap really ticks me off. I wasn't there, but it still makes stories like this make Prince sound like a real ass...which in turns just makes diehard fans look like jackasses!
