lol I never expect anything than what I paid for. Any extras offered to fans, has to come from the Prince himself. There was no official announcement that Prince fans would be let into private aftershows, so standing on line hoping to get in, is a risk a fan takes on their own.

Oh please stop with this nonsense and like a previous person said, take your head out from his .....

It was a pretty cruel thing to do any way you look at it. It was not a huge celeb party first of all. The place was not even close to full and I was at the previous Butter show where you could not move cause it was wall to wall people. Someone mentioned above that the girl running the supposed list(which was imaginary by the way) gave us a possibility that some fans would be let in. This is true and even more so than that, my friend who was with me was on this "list" through a publication who had contacted the company handling it. We were told, on the dl, outside by people involved that the plan was to let around 30 of the outside fans in after the VIP list was taken care of as long as there was room(which there was apparently). After Prince got there one of the security told me he kept trying to get this list woman to come and let some fans in and she just said no im not going back out there. All i saw after that was a few Butter employees who came out and let in a few of their friends who they called and told to come down. This was after security came out and said the list is closed and no one else is getting in.

Look, we all love prince to death. that is why we are here. But to see something like this happen and not question someone's heart to do something so cruel to your rabid die hard fans is just straight crazy.

First of all, it was ME who was supposed to take his head out of Prince's ass, NOT 2elijah

Second, the same argument could be made in the opposite direction, yet there is no need for me to demand me taking your head out of the frozen fans' asses.... One might also argue that it is just straight crazy to stand outside in that cold for hours without ANY guarantee to get in. That has nothing to do with being up Prince's ass (what would anyone gain from that I ask?), it's just common sense to consider this risk and not to whine after.....

I took a shot at this after show as well. Froze by butt of and even worse subjected my poor wife to this which she was right as usual, we were never getting in. Knew something was up when we were still waiting and it was going on 2:30. His "Tour Manager" Chris ???? nice chap (sorry not up on his latest management team) came out and thankfully/politely explained it was a "private party" and likely us non-VIP folks were not going to get in. Not feeling that Butter place(still sore about missing out on-line NPG limited tix sold-out at 12:02 after going to the Bryant park GMA gig LOL) The guys at the door could have let us all know as a courtesy, instead they just told folks to get back in line. Love those 15 or in this case 120 minute power trips with these doorman, that was it for us, Thank U Goodnight.

Mistake but not exactly disappointed b/c as one of us many diehards I have come to expect with Prince its the old U get what U get and U don't get upset! I felt good about making the effort (save for my poor yet very patient wife) and listening to some great Prince stories on the line, impressed with some younger folks (20's) talking about Claire Fischer string arrangements eek , Bob George, B-sides and all the "back in the day" P stuff I lived through. That being said, P has some of the greatest fans and it would've been nice to include them but hey its his and his team's call. Perhaps "Its my life" should have been covered at the after show (LOL). I know not that funny, my toes keep reminding me.

One suggestion for P and Live nation, after spending 6,000 (my choice I know) on four shows for V.I.P it would have been nice to have a little invite (your name is on the coveted list at the door) in my envelope for an after show instead of some totally useless laminated tickets and even better some passes complete with the lanyards and all to basically nowhere. There were maybe 200 table VIP's who would've really appreciated that and heck we may have even paid a bit more for those tix if it included an after show. Just an idea that may not work for everyone but if its about business? Which let's face it for P and his team it is, then this could become a good business model. Of course the remainder of the folks who show up, should have an opportunity provided if space is available and this was not a closed show like the one he chose to host last night.

Keep the faith, I still think there will be an Appolloshow or two for us diehards to attend.

Thank you eelco, I appreciate you clarifying that. I agree with your post, and the thing is, the Butter show in 2006 was a paid one, on a limited, first come, first serve basis. This is why I prefer "announced, guaranteed and paid" entry into aftershows, because at least you're guaranteed you are in, once you pay ahead of time. Often situations like what happened yesterday, is bound to happen, when celebs/venue employees have their own friends on the list, and it's left up to that mgmt, whether to allow an artist's fans in, even if the artist requests to let some in and mgmt decides not to. It's just a risk fans take I guess.shrug

I like the fact that those who shelled out money for VIP tix, especially for the $750 tix, could have had an offer for an aftershow included. Not sure how many seats were sold at that price, but I would think if they did include it with your package, then Livenation would have had to make sure the venue was large enough for the $750 tix purchasers, as well as the celebs that were part of the VIP section as well. Your suggestion is really not a bad idea to be honest, especially for those who shelled out $750 per ticket. That's some diehard money right there.biggrin

How many were in line at 2:30? Seems to me P's people should have been more accommodating to the diehards, who are still, it seems, taken for granted after all these years. Yeah, the aftershow is always a risk, not a sure thing, yada yada... but come on man, 3 in the damn morning with a half empty club, and you can't let a few people through the door? Reward the diehards P... we're your meal ticket after all...

Even something with that little closed VIP back-room 12/15 after show in the IZOD. As for room? A smaller venue like butter could have handled 200 VIP's along with a few celebs & entourage etc. That would have worked, they should consider this format as you're right VIP is paying to play. On the flip side, I am thankful to have the opportunity for VIP seats instead of paying some broker probably 2-3k for a seat that close.

Your argument does not really hold weight so im not gonna address it specifically. If you had read what i wrote you would see that we were being told some fans would get in. This had nothing to do with Butter staff. The girl with the list was part of the prince team running the show. Not Butter staff. And yes the tour manager told us it was a private event but he also said they might let some people in but it is not guaranteed. And if you have ever been to one of the aftershows you know that even a small chance of getting in is worth the wait. Sorry im one of those people who likes seeing Prince in a small place jamming away rather then the big giant stadium hits shows.

I knew the risk standing out there and im not whining about that part. All i was basically saying is that seeing Prince walk right past us, stop to smile and pose, seeing us freezing and knowing we were out there for hours and then not letting any of us in could easily be seen as the sign of someone who is a heartless jerk. If it was a mad packed to the gills thing I would understand completely. I just think Prince and his team dropped the ball.....again.

It still is amazing that after 30 years in the business and countless aftershows that organizing them is still such a cluster. It really makes no sense as it is not that difficult. Try 2 words Prince tour management team HONEST COMMUNICATION especially when folks are out there braving the elements. These are the kinds of questions I would love to see in an interview but we usually get the Tavis Smiley softballs and stroking, as I am sure that is all he would allow. The disrespect for the folks who have basically supported these tours, CDs, movies through the years is still quite impressive especially from a devout follower of the Christian faith. Where is your humanity and common decency?

The after show was crazy at Butter. We as die hard Prince fans stayed out in the freezing cold for atleast two hours for nothing. I understand that celebraties usually get first priority, but do they truly love Prince like we do? Absolutely not. Prince has to realize who truly supports him. We sacrifice ourselves all the time for him. Even if a few fans could have gotten in, I would have felt better. I'm very sorry only celebraties, not his true fans got to see the show. The sad part of all of this is that real fans would do the same thing over and over again, just for the slight opportunity to see our beloved Prince perform. sad

2 words. Private Show. You can bitch and moan all day that you are a die hard and Prince owes you this. The truth is Prince does'nt owe you shit. (Unless you did'nt recieve your Lotusflow3r t)

I traveled 2600 miles to see Prince on the 18th & wanted Desperately to go to an aftershow. Poor Pej (bless his heart) can atess to this as i called him at 3am in the morning after the concert. Sorry Pej, I just know i woke you from a deep sleep.

Anyhhoo. I was soooooooooooo mad that night that I did'nt get in to see him however there was no promise or tickets sold for an aftershow. If people decided to wait in the cold for 3 hours is their choice not Prince's problem or fault. The namecalling and attacking Prince's character is just Sad.

Just my 2 cents.

Prince did an interview with a woman at Record World. They talked about whatever, then he asked her: "Does your pubic hair go up to your navel?" At that moment, we thought maybe we shouldn't encourage him to do interviews.

I also think that it is quite evident that many celebrities are "real fans." I just think that the aftershows are bonuses, and they are not guaranteed. You gamble when you choose to line up, if he did not invite you. I have been to quite a few aftershows, and most of them, we were invited to, and we were sold tickets, or given NPGMC privileges. There were times where we have waited hours and hours and nothing happens. No one forced us.

But..... I do agree that VIP tickets should have bought you access to the after show. That is not little kid money, so I don't want little kid souvenirs. I want to be a VIP. Those people have a right to be a little annoyed.

Certainly not saying he "owes" us anything. We were totally there by choice (and all of us with past experiences of patiently waiting it out for great results). Aftershows are always a toss-up though. Will word go out, will he show, will he play, etc. I just think it's the elitism that seems to be happening with these NY shows, which is not a usual Princely trait. We've always been there for him, not just trying to make an exclusive scene (or merely buy our way in...) We love him and of course want to see him work it in a smaller venue, rockin the hardcore &/or obscure jams that we so adore, and to savor these legendary performances! I understand there not being anything "official," but knowing his penchant for afterjams, we remain hopeful & at his beck and call. Just sad to be there and get passed up, especially with a more than half-empty club. And the mixed messages from whatever "management" was there didn't help.

But still, our Purple love is forever, even if a Strange Relationship bheart

This^^^is the only thing that needs to be said on the matter.....Prince indeed has been a dick over the years...But not letting fans foolish enough to brave the cold elements to get into a gig that wasn't even announced aint one of those times...

Prince fans are an obsessive lot...But remember, that's all on you....

Again, fans were told outside that there was a chance however slight they would let some in. Not as cut and dried as you make it out to be.

Also, why are you on here if you are not a prince fan? Yes we are an obsessive bunch though.

Oh...don't get it twisted...I'm a Prince fan...I think the guy through all his ups and downs is the greatest artist of his era...I'm just not unreasonable when it comes to said fandom...

In other words, I'm not crazy...

Glad I didn't go there and wait, I was in bed by 1:00!

Even from the setlist, it seems to just be the same old thing . . . that is, the songs from his current setlist that he didn't perform last night and a few covers. Would have been a big disappointment to wait around all right for that, especially after being at the great Butter's show in 2006.

Yep. I totally agree with you.

That 2006 show was a personal highlight that I doubt will ever be topped for me. I didn't have a ticket for that one, but the security guy said that if I hung around, he could probably get me in -- and he was true to his word 15 minutes later.

HOWEVER, that gig started off as a fan-only NPGMC event that he happened to invite celebrities to. So different situation.

Looks like he's not too fan-friendly these days, which sucks. I don't give Prince a pass for this behavior, especially given how he used to be. Sorry, P. Not cool.

(BTW, I was one of the people that Tamar picked to dance on the stage in 2006, so you probably saw me cheesing it up there. Priceless! razz )

Come here, babe.. yeah...

oh dear that's terrible & humiliating. shameful really.

i'd be fuming with steam coming out my ears if i'd made the effort & then to be led on by those snotty flunkys. they should have been straight with people in the queue instead of giving glimmer of hope

i noticed liv warfield on twitter.. 'i heard there is an aftershow at butta!'

it was a blatant advert to all & sundry.. ( i don't wanna knock liv cuz i love her tweeting) but it was misleading, as were other tweets

i hope the fans can console themselves knowing they saved themselves a few quid, that the setlist was shit & let's face it, taking place in a pokey old restaurant with nasty wall murals.

You know, I was there for the 12/17 and 12/18 shows and definitely wanted to experience an aftershow, as I've never been to one. Of course the aftershows were private parties in the IZOD hospitality suite on 12/17 and the Village Underground on 12/18 (though P didn't play there--it was just a party). I was at VU the previous night--wanted to unwind to some good music after the 12/17 show, but did not attempt to go there on 12/18 as I heard that they were only letting celebrities in. So I agree with other posters that standing out in the cold for over two hours is purely by one's own choice.

However, I do agree with the arguement that at least those who paid for the $750 ticket should have been invited. But I also think that overall Prince doesn't want to deal with having anything etched in stone. If he goes through the process of selling tickets beforehand (which is the only entry process that limits mass hysteria), there is some extra coordination, management, processing, etc. involved. More than that, he has to keep that gig whether he feels like it or not. This current format, whether we like it or not, leaves his options open.

Would have been nice to hear Purple Music live though...

this thread reminds me of one from, oh i dunno, ten years ago where people stood in line outside of paisley park in subzero temps, one gal got frostbite, people nearly froze, and folks grew nearly hysterical when they did not make it inside. i actually waited for a while then went home, because it was too cold even for me.

then there was a huge debate (exactly like right now falloff ) about how it was alll prince's fault.

i'm not saying things shouldn't have been handled differently then and now, i'm only pointing out that this type of thing has been occurring for years when it comes ot prince's afterparties. live and learn. he has never, ever been predictable. smile

Just an afterTHOUGHT: I know Butter was once featured in Gossip Girl as one of those extremely HIP and HAPPENING restaurants. Might there also be some influence there? Maybe they just considered themselves TOO upmarket for the ''common people''???

Well put!!!!! biggrin

Definitely a different air about P at these shows. I had/have Table VIP front row every night and I do not feel the same connection via interaction with him that I did at many other shows. With the band I do feel a connection with some eye contact and acknowledgement that hey we appreciate U being here feeling us, even got a drum stick tossed right to me from John Blackwell...it was all beat up and still smok'in.

After the Lotus Flower Let Down (for us true fans who plunked down more$$ to support him) I thought he would have been just a little more fan friendly with either a longer show (1:45 is just not enough at these prices, opening talent or not) or an after show for the fans via the org or moquake, geez how bout pulling up that old Lotus Flow3r data base. I know asking way toooooo much. As for Butter...not Better? My wife said last night I should have said something on the side of the line to his tour manager about all the money we spent on these VIP Tables. Would have loved to see where that went???? Never know. Sometimes U just have to put the ask out there.

Quite Frankly he really doesn't owe us anything but by the same token it never hurts to treat people right no matter...no matter. Still Love P and thank the Lord every time I get to see or hear him that he is still HERE showering us with his purple magic. Happy New Year Y'all!!!
