Can't wait for tomorrow. MSG here we come!!!!! You are damn right! Tonights concert was off the chain! People left too quick and didnt wait for the encores! It was mostly packed not half empty. When sheila e came out I was ecstatic! It was amazing seeing them perform together! What a treat-- I did not go away disappointed for Wednesday or Tonight! Prince is in fine form and all going to MSG will not be disappointed! "Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything." --Plato

All I CAN SAY IS WOW!!!!!
THE way Prince ended the show Blew Me Away!!!
He literally turned the lights on, put his heart on a freaking platter to his fans and sang his ass off on If I Was Your Girlfriend, Insatiable, Scandalous and ADORE in a way I have never heard before.
WHAT A NIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This pains me to say this and I will probaly be labeled "a hater" too but this was the worst Prince show I have seen. I have been to the following shows (Purple Rain 85, Lovesexy 89, Musicology 04, W2A 11). I'm sorry to be critical as Prince is one of my absolutely favorite artists. I fully expect to be lambasted for my comments but tonights show for me was pretty disappointing. I also took a friend who I having been raving about Prince shows to for years. He appreciates good music and musicianship and was also unimpressed leaving him to continue to wonder what I have seen in Prince for all these years. I couldn't defend against his arguements. I had been hoping he could finally see some of what I loved about Prince but there was little evidence of it for me tonight. It was ok mind you. Maybe even decent but nowhere near great and because it's Prince and because I have both seen/heard great shows both live and on video/bootleg... I expected great. I have seen what felt like great Prince shows in the past and this was not at the level of any of them. The Musicolgy show I saw at the meadowlands in 04 tour was very good. The Lovesexy I saw was also very good. I still had fun. Prince is still astonishing to watch on the guitar and I still love hearing his voice on the ballads. However so many other things were just plain bad. In this day and age and with the resources at his disposal there is no way for the sound to have been mixed so poorly and sound so muddy. I saw U2 at Giants stadium last year and the sound was much better in an outdoor stadium about four times the size of the meadowlands arena. There is no way a PRINCE show should sound as bad as this one did. It was extremely muddy and flat. Also, where the musicians were allowed to shine on the Musicology tour they were were not allowed the same freedom here. John Blackwell is an absolutely amazing drummer but I never would never have known that watching him tonight. He seemed tentayive and unenthused. He was on fire during the Musicology tour. His drumming during SHHHH is one the most incredible live music experiences I have witnessed. He seemed tame tonight and the poor mix drowned out any power he might have otherwise been displaying. Sheila's drum sound however was great. Her performance was the amazing and her drums were mixed great. She also got the greatest roar of the night from the crowd. Far greater than at any other moment during the show. I think those going to the garden show with Sheila on the bill could possibly get the best show of the bunch. Finally, Prince just didn't seem to be having as much fun as he seemed to be having at other shows I have seen him at. Maybe it's age (although as we all know: he looks amazing and seems to have more energy and stamina than most people in their 20s) so I don't think that's it. Somehow in the past when he would toy playfully with the audience it seemed cheesy but also genuine. Tonight it was just seemed cheesy. He resorted to what seemed like vegas show perfomance techniques. I could go on but I don't even know if people are even reading at this point as I realize this is a very negative review. I am hoping I can go to an aftershow during this run of shows see more of what I still love about this man's music. I am very curious what other people's experiences were of this compared to other shows.

There is a different between offering criticism and just straight up hate for no reason. You've made valid points, which I can totally understand. I don't think you're hating. At least I don't see it that way.
You're not the only person who complained about the sound quality at the IZOD. Even in Wednesday's thread folks had issues with the sound at the venue.
You've seen the man live at his peak so there is no doubt that these shows are gonna leave you disappointed if you compare them to PR or Lovesexy or even Musicology. Sometimes you gotta just take things for what they are at the monent IN the moment and try not to compare them to anything else.
I was at Musicology in 04, so... I dunno. I'm just gonna wait and see.. Prince esta muerto...

I've seen him five times and this was among the best. I would have liked Wednesday's set list better, but the energy level tonight was great, and let's face it, the hits are fun. It was my daughter's first time seeing him and she is blown away in every regard. As one post said above, the sound was a little muddy (hey, it's the Izod Center...) but otherwise, Prince was totally on.

I agree with banks, I have been to all those tours and more. This was really great, the energy he gave tonight, especially on the encores was unreal. There were some issues with the sound, I agree. In fact, he was alluding to such issues on his radio interview. Hopefully that will be solved at the Garden. As for John Blackwell and Shhh! he killed it last night, but, as Prince often says, "so many hits and so little time." I expect to hear Shhh! tomorrow again. He said that the show would be different every night and he is living up to that so far. First time for me hearing Guitar live and he had a lot of fun with that. The version of Little Red Corvette was also unreal. He was sultry with it like he hasn't been in years-not the sing-song version he has done of late. To hear the falsetto and the screaming on The Beautiful Ones and the other ballads reminded me of his younger days. Finally, I don't know if anyone noticed, but he was in heels the entire night. For years now, he has been wearing flats (not sure about Europe), but he was in high heels tonight for the entire show as far as I could tell. Maybe his hips are better.

Yeah SHHH was missing. Awww, still enjoyed it though.
The sound wasnt great, which is a shame because the venue is smaller and there wasn't a bad seat in the house.

Prince was not happie w/the sound issues either which (((he mentioned in the in w/the radio station interview he did recently)))). He said he was not going to let them frustrate him though. Which is a good thing and it showed 2nite!!!

The Izod Center is an old, outdated arena which is known for having subar sound quality, still, for my first Prince concert, I am speechless. Can't wait for tomorrow's show!

Had a blast tonight...thanks "banks" - really great spending time with you and your friends!
Love love love the fact that the version of "Little Red Corvette" was the same from the Montreux Jazz Festival.
See you on 12/29! | |

Thats a good response to ...L4OATheOriginal...who made like hardly anyone was at the concert when in fact many people had left before the encores and probably didn't know there could be any encores!!!!

oh yes LITTLE RED CORVETTE WAS INCREDIBLE. Never heard that version before.

When Prince came out for the last surprise encores he strolled all around thw whole stage waving to the audience as everyone went apeshit and he left all of the house lights on for all four songs. It was so cool. "Hyperactive when I was small, Hyperactive now I'm grown, Hyperactive 'till I'm dead and gone"
