She leaves more of a profit margin for the promotor and hass less demands after the presales are announced. I.e.: less problems. Happier fans. Pills and thrills and daffodils will kill... If you don't believe me or don't get it, I don't have time to try to convince you, sorry.

Maybe, her Monsterball tour is really big, lot of costumes, big stage, catwalk and everything, maybe they need time to take it away?

It must be that because in no way could this be anything to do with Prince...he has such a great reputation with promoters.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Ha, it seems that they don't even have a webpage for the event anymore. I tried to do a search for "Prince" at lippu.fi and nothing came up.

Yep, he just have a lots of bad luck what comes to his concerts

Are we trying to be a bit critical? We can't have that here. Just relax and wait for the presale. All what happened was a postponement. Just a slight delay. Nothing more. If Helsinki and Antwerpen concerts are just "postponed" by Prince, it would be fair to put out the new dates and fast. Otherwise those gigs should be considered as "cancelled", at least what comes to this particular tour.
If that's the case, I wonder which Finnish concert organizer is willing to take a risk with Prince ever again. 5 th concert in a row is cancellation record in Finland, so far.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
The Helsinki show isn't "postponed". It's cancelled, and from what I hear it's just due to bad research and planning. The logistics turned out to be too expensive. "Postpone" is just a nice word not to upset the fans.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
So the logistics were Prince's side of the story? Or of the hall?
Thanks for confirming the euphemism. Pills and thrills and daffodils will kill... If you don't believe me or don't get it, I don't have time to try to convince you, sorry.

Very poor planning, indeed. This way he only upsets more people. If his organization did this huge mistake, it would be nice to be honest about it. Especially, when this was the third cancelled visit already.
If the logistics turned out to be too expensive for Prince, why this wasn't the case with all the other artist who have visited in Helsinki. I'm sure, that Prince's system isn't the costiest concert arranged in Hartwall Arena.
In the end, it seems to be a question of greediness. [Edited 10/12/10 9:46am]

Could very well be. During the summer episode of his tour over Europe he rented the video screens, had no security team of his own (except perhaps personal security) and used stages of the local venue most of the time. I.e.: basically he only transported the gear and costumes around aside from the people.
Please correct me if I am wrong. Pills and thrills and daffodils will kill... If you don't believe me or don't get it, I don't have time to try to convince you, sorry.

As I understand it the logistics between the cities are up to Prince. He has two agents in Europe working on setting different concerts up, and one team/crew that follow him around Europe. The local venue/promotor pays Prince to appear, nothing more. And he gets a fixed sum and is undependent of ticket sales.
I'm surprised they managed to set up Bergen, without more concerts in the area. For example there will be no swedish shows, although they really tried. Not enough cash was offered, that's the reason. [Edited 10/13/10 7:10am]

Interesting. So the business model is more clear now. Also the inner working of a performance deal are explained. The Swedes don't think ~USD 1 - 1.5M is the right price for mr P in a medium sized venue? (10K+)
Hmmm. At least they may be more careful than the others during the summer gigs (Berlin, Werchter, Nice, Geneva all had 'sales issues' in some form or another) Pills and thrills and daffodils will kill... If you don't believe me or don't get it, I don't have time to try to convince you, sorry.

1.5M Dollar would mean 71 euro per person in a 15K hall (For Prince alone that is, no hire charge foor hall, expenses for ticketsales and an decent profit for the promotor). No way that is going to work.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
So what do we pay in Bergen? Or Kopenhagen?

I don't know, ridiculous prices?
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Well, Prince might have rich friends, but not so many rich fans..
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
not in Bergen... | |
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Problems for the swedes were that they didn't think they could fill a venue big enough in order to compensate Prince. But they worked hard, looked at smaller venues and maybe 2-3 shows (easier to validate high ticket prices). Globe arena wasn't an option (too big), but Cirkus was a close call as I understand it. Best small concert venue in Europe. Could have been a classic. Are you reading? I know you are.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Hmmm. So it appears that P is pushing the ever moving envelope w.r.t. pricing versus venue size. Yes, I am reading. Got Cirkus interior pics? Pills and thrills and daffodils will kill... If you don't believe me or don't get it, I don't have time to try to convince you, sorry.
