Saturday's 'Mountains' was maybe one of the low-points of the show.........that songs just don't work without W&L, let alone Eric or Atlanta............

There you have it.

Mountains is my favourate Prince and the Revolution song, and indeed the Revolution are one of the keypoints in this song. Without the disharmony of de voices of Wendy, Lisa and Susannah this song is going nowhere, not to mention the horns! (that are also a little bit in disharmony)

This song proves that imperfection leads to real beauty, perfection is often boring.

It did hurt to here my favorate song saturday, I tought I chose the wrong one untill I put the cd parade back on when I was home.

its ok to not like it but sometimes people go a little to hard .

That's because I was (am) very, very dissapointed.

To me, Larry killed the nastyness in Prince. One of the aspects I got hooked on him. A part of his (old) personality which created the funkiest, nastiest songs I liked to groove on.

That's why I sincerely hate Larry G. fryingpan (and I guess I'm not the only one here on the org)

By the way, comparing Shelby J to W&L , Candy Dulfer and Sheila E is an insult to the latter.

They are well established artists who have co-operated with many other musicians in the business besides P. Shelby J without P is like a glass of water without the glass. A puddle that will dry up and dissapear without anybody noticing.confused

its not larry who killed the nastyness in prince its prince himself he's a grown man who make's his own choice's ,he lost his baby, father an mother and his mother's wish was to become a jw and prince did .and its nice he's a good friend to prince .(i would not like it if sombody say bad thing about my friends).

i love wendy & lisa but they didn't have a voice like shelby j .maybe the wrong song for werchter but shelby is great .

to bad you were so dissapointed .but if you are honest if other 30.000 people and the media thinks it was great and did have a good time .it was not that bad i would say .for me the nude tour was the worst prince concert .and the one night alone tour (antwerp ) was the best .this one was somwere in the middle not his best but what a party.

I agree fully on that. Musicianship was not as great as ONA tour. But this gig got the perfect atmosphere, perfect audience response and the perfect amount of drunkness on my part (not too much, not to little). These are my ingredients of a good party. I came with the expectation of a greatest hits show, which was realistic because I saw the other setlists and knowing that it's an outdoor show with 50% casual fans it's pointless to desire songs like dorothy parker.
Too bad I missed the aftershow, I still feel bad for that. 2 freaking minutes after I logged out and went to sleep, the news got posted duh Oh well, he's 52, I hope he's fit enough to do aftershows for at least 8 more years smile

So, conclusion: it was very good. But for the next Prince concert (in 2-3 years or so, who knows) I hope he brings back the horns. I remember most of the people were dissing them in 2007 but I really miss them. It adds funkyness to the music and it's also nice to see when the horn section is doing the same dance next to each other. I'd also prefer a mid-sized venue with great acoustics, which is hard to find in Belgium. The Ancienne Belgique would be great but is maybe too small. So again a residency in Paris or Amsterdam would be nice. With "organized" aftershows like in London, so I wouldn't miss them... razz

I do not agree with those that did not appreciate both Jamie Lidell and Mint Condition; I’ve found them charismatic and excited, as well as they played very good funky/soul music.

I’ve seen very little of GCS because of rain and the cloth over our heads; although I dislike Larry Graham I’ve looked up to him when he came down and under the rain continued to play his bass, ravishing!

Prince started quickly (in fact while the keyboarder started playing Venus De Milo the personnel were still fixing the instruments), funny to see when it comes to him, playing Let’s Go Crazy, 1999 and so on; the beginning of the show was the same as the previous one.

I was a little disappointed with the setlist.

Ok, I knew from the previous one the songs (too many past hits and covers), but I really did not expect the same arrangements on some less popular songs as he did in the past (e.g. Montreux 2009 – Little Red Corvette, Take Me With You or Milan 2002 – Love Rollercoaster cover); maybe I’m wrong but it seems to me that he worked not so much in preparing the show for this mini european tour.

The gig lasted only one hour and half (two hours with pauses and encore), maybe it’s me : 4 concerts attended, all finished in less than two hours L . Maybe he cut the setlist down because of playing in advance Purple (real) Rain or he wanted to play at the aftershow, who knows …

We knew about the aftershow only after our return in Rome; what a sadness, we slept a few kilometres from the place where Prince was playing again that night.

In spite of these disappointments, a Prince’s concert has been once more quite exciting and funfilled.

Beside the emotion of listening live to the music listened so many times at home, it was so funny to see him dancing in good form and joking with us.

He lay down on the floor two times pretending to be exhaust, so he joked on the Love Rolllercoaster riff guitar speeding it up after having said “faster” and ended whit his well-known scream.

See you soon,

Mass

Is that a complaint?

I was a little disappointed with the setlist.

So it was.

Can't you see there is a bit of a backbone setlist in there? The rest changes now and then.

If you look at his concert history you see certain things (arragements, consequtive songs, etc) survive a year or two.

So is this a complaint? Do you need quantity or quality?

You need to see more shows.

We knew about the aftershow only after our return in Rome; what a sadness, we slept a few kilometres from the place where Prince was playing again that night.

I consciously went home. I was tired and slept at home.

The 'aftershow' was a Larry-party perhaps because of the last occasion for this tour that Larry played.

So was it worth your while to go to Werchter?

I was near the left tower.

The Vienna show, just the next stop on the tour, was different enough to warrant the trip there. So yes, one more show and your experience is changed fundamentally.

Attending a Prince’s concert has always been amazing and exciting.

This time my girlfriend followed me and she was shocked by the event ; she knew just Nothing Compares 2 U from Prince and maybe she will become a fam, in fact she cannot stop to talk about the show.

Of course we (me, my brother and my girlfriend) had a great experience also in Werchter.

Complaint?

Actually one, the duration.

I would like him to never stop to play and sing and dance … fortunately we know we have already got quality from Prince.

A proper balance to me could be three hours long wink

For sure. It was quite early in the show (in Berlin it was played much later) and before he started the song he walked towards the band to tell them about the song change.

I had a great time!

The vibe of the audiance and how everything was orchestred by Prince was amazing. I had a blast with the people around me, dancing, singing, clapping, jumping up & down in the rain. I did not care about the rain, just wanted to experience the whole concert and thought the atmosphere was fantastic and magic. And in my mind Prince was having a good time with us too and was jamming away happily

Purple rain was electric

Loved him guitar

Maybe not technically the best performance, and yes, I missed the keys and horns too, however, I really felt the atmospere was magic and I loved it

99% of my posts are ironic. Maybe this post sides with the other 1%.

Yes, he did. And from then on he had more spontaneous outbursts that blew me away!

Prince needs a band like this to make that happen:

Yeah, you can call me a tosser for bringing this up again, but I haven't seen none of that last Saturday at Werchter......

I was there too and yes - he did put the original setlist aside to start Purple Rain when the rain started 2 fall again. Anybody not noticing this wasn't paying attention smile

I love Prince and chocolate - in that order

gold circle werchter was amazing! loved jamie lidel, i shall go see him if he plans anywhere near me.

it began 2 rain during gcs set.. larry was a true legend & got funked up in the heavy rain, jehova bless his heart... nothing was gonna stop him soldiering on through his jam.. VERY rock & roll i thought, cuz it was pissing so hard! respect 2 him.

then prince.. he was in a great mood, playful & smiling.. again the hits.

he begain to play 'hot summer', EXCELLENT rock & roll in same vein as 'peach', from what i remember

fred yonnet with his mouthorgan really rocking out, prince saying something about the rain has gone..

all the time we are looking at the black sky & lightening in the distance then BAM! the sky opens, huge thunder droplets, black sky, thunder & lightening! prince cuts short 'hot summer' & launched in2 'purple rain'

prince & mother nature, 2 great forces doing their best to drown each other lol priceless, historic prince gig!

not the most glamourous moment, we are talking mud, ponchos, running makeup & very bad frizzhair, but was nice to feel so wet.

bria was there sat at the edge of the stage in a gap between the speakers.. she looked great, in a white sequined floor length halter dress. it looked like she wore a black bolero cardie, but could have been her hair..& the fringe! from the distance it was mayte lol ..

she was having a right old time with larry graham's wife... & they LOVE fred the mouthorgan, oh yes! they got real fired up each time he did his thang.

it was a beautiful night & saw prince's junk in the 'disco heat' giggle

he would come back to the stage, falling about all over like he was zapped, comical stuff.

i didn't know there was an aftershow, but don't care & i'd miss it all over again cuz i met up with another orger & we sat sharing beer & cherries, 20ten cd, talking about how great prince looked! he's eating, working out, pecs through his top & those thighs aaahhh!

unforgetable night heart

I really loved this concert.

I would have liked more horns, less breaks in between songs and between the encores and a little more songs. I would have liked a song or 2 from 20ten like 'Laydown' or 'Compassion'.

I took my 11 year old daughter to this concert. (Born in 1999 ...) She's totally in to Prince now. 'Everybody Loves me' is her favorite song for the moment but the hits like 1999, Purple Rain, Kiss, Letz go crazy play continously ...

I hope See You soon doesn't mean we have to wait another 8 years ...
