But for how long? 10 mins like in France?

I'm watching the SA Cup closing.

The Opening was fantastic and so is the closing, not even the American funk beats the AFrican spirit. It takes me an hour to R'dam. I'm thinking about it....though. cool There are too many things happening at once. We might win tonight razz razz in AFRICA:-P razz

I want Prince to come and live in France and play MANY MANY CONCERTS.

PS I'm keeping an eye on Dr F's tweets. Maybe he'll come to A'dam somewhere afterwards. wink He must have slept all day toch?

Seems he didn't turn up after all at NSJ yesterday. But then - I still love him 2 bits! smile
I love Prince and chocolate - in that order

Finally back at a computer desk - beyond shattered after the weekend.

Overall, I'm giving the show 6/10. Was my 11th Prince show, without doubt the worst - even if it was cool to see him outside in a bigger stadium, it's not one I will repeat.

Getting there wasn't too bad once I arrived in Leuven. A tip to the Belgians - on your massive train timetables it's kinda useful to have where each train stops on each train + the ticket machines really should accept Mastercard / Visa. Had a 20 minute queue to buy my ticket.

Buses weren't bad at all, if the distance a little far - but I'm fit enough for that not to be important.

Missed the first guy, Mint Condition were an insult to music - I listened to the new Sleigh Bells CD on my iPod instead.

Then the rain, boy the rain, I looked on my phone and the BBC gave a sun symbol so I didn't have any coat etc. After 20 mins of it went to the stands to try and get one. It wasn't as simple as giving them away as someone previously said, you needed to either by a lottery ticket at one stall, own a KBC (a Belgian bank?) card at another or text something to a number (Belgian phone company this time) - thankfully one of the phone people took pitty on an Englishman in distress and gave me one.

Larry was ok, not really my thing but he worked the crowd well.

Prince, well I thought the first hour was fantastic. Liked the LRC new version, Kiss as well - had an electro vibe which worked well. Was funny the moment Prince said the rain has gone away that it started pissing down. Purple Rain was good.

Basically up until Mountains all was going well. I wished I'd gone home then...

I didn't pay £250 for a round-trip to see three Jazz club singers cover a song. If I wanted to do that I'd pay £8 and get into the Jazz club down the road.

After the Angel cover, it just did not pick up. Jam after Jam, more covers and 10 minutes of Musicology. Please Prince, just no. Save that sort of stuff for your aftershow.

Simply this show is not a patch on anything on the ONA tour or the O2 shows.

75 minutes show followed by frankly ridiculous self-love and four encores is just pathetic. 10 minutes wait. Running time just over two hours. Show time what 95 minutes in total. Poor

Do the show, then an encore, if it went well maybe a second encore. End.

Gold Circle was way over-crowed on the right side facing.

I think I'm getting off the Prince train, might go if he plays London, but I won't be making much more effort. Lotusflow3r should have been the end for me, I think this will.

The abomination that is this 20ten CD makes it simpler too.

Liked the show very much - it was my 1st Prince concert. The Purple Rain part was the highlight of the show for me as well. HOWEVER, it was almost like Prince was saying goodbye and waiting backstage more than actually playing. AND they took my camera at the entrance - apparently it was too big. It was a pocket camera but they said Prince told them nothing with a lense. So now I've no photos, anyone with nice photos please orgNote me biggrin

This was my first Prince concert, I thought it was ok...but expected more from all the hype that people make about his concerts. The rain didn't help though and outdoor concerts never seem to have the same atmosphere as indoor concerts..so I don't think it was all his fault...but I doubt I would bother seeing him again. It's certainly nowhere near my top 3 concerts.

Does anyone here not understand by the performance Prince is in it simply for the ca$h... 95 minute show? Where was Prince, seemed half the show he's out back....

Outdoor costs alot less to set up. What the deal on Ticket prices, ever seen this for an outdoor show? Think of the numbers. How much do you think he makes per show. $$$$ not alot of work really.

5 or 6 shows a year will cover the rent.

Larry Graham is to blame for leading him down the Witness path. Shame.

The fact that Larry was there got me worried...and I was right!

They did the same songs/jam they did in Brussels in '98.

Larry has talent but we come 2 see Prince and whenver Larry is around it changes in a Graham/Sly Sone show...

But still; the first 90 minutes were great!!

Were you there?

I think not, or you must have seen another prince.

Is he in it for the cash, of course he is,

did it show? No for a fraction of a second.

He had fun making his money,

we had fun spending it.

That's the core of good business.

(unlike ltsflwr.cm, there was no fun spending the 77 whatever, and I'm pretty sure he didn't get any rewarding feeling of it)

Every time I come here there is someone bitching about Prince. If you don't like it or him then just accept the fact you both grew up and get over it.

He isn't going to writhe around like he's still 26 and we're no longer in the 80's either. He's still one of the most talented and influential musicians in the industry.

Listen and enjoy. And if you don't. Go elsewhere.

Or shut up, already. Damn!

July 10, 2001 was my 78th Prince concert since November 19, 1982. I loved the show considering it's all bout the experience. I can't complain about what he played our didn't play because for the number one reason, Prince is still ALIVE and about to perform, therefore all Prince fans/supporters should be grateful.

The Werchter gig was my first time ever seeing Prince outside. We my crew and I got off the bus and started walking towards the festival grounds. It took us over 10 minutes to walk to the gate to pick our tickets up from will call. A walk that long with no roads is what we call a country mile in the U.S. I thought people were joking when they said the bus stopped 1 mile ( Europeans do the conversation) from the festival.

We arrived around 4:30pm and walked around the grounds to all the food and drink booths. The most hated booth, cigarettes? What the hell? Since we waited to get our tix, they were not golden circle, which didn't matter to me because my experiences are about being in the same room, venue with Prince." We were right outside the golden circle close to the stage that with the video cameras and sound equipment. The people in this area were standing on mats, not on the grass.

Jamie Lidell and Mint Condition came on and off the stage. I was watching these dark clouds roll in from behind the stage. Then it started to rain around 8:10pm. Graham Central Station took the stage around 8:20 pm. They ended their performance at 9:25 pm. I was looking at my watch when the Prince symbol appeared around 9:35pm with the pouring rain and some lighting strikes. The band takes the stage playing Venus De Milo. Prince appeared in the outfit he wore at the BET Awards. All the songs were similar to Arras except at 10:05pm Prince started performing "Purple Rain." I laughed because I never thought I will experience Prince performing that song while standing in the purple rain. It was the highlight of the concert for me.

Whereas the rest of your post can be discussed because it´s just your personal opinion, this sentence is just pretty disrespectful.

Just shows you weren´t seeing the show for the music or the band or the feeling.

I can get into a funk/ jazz club for free twice a week to jam with some of the best musicians around me - so what? I go to see Prince because it is him AND the band. Usually the musicians Prince takes on tour are fantastic.

Probably you think it would have been worth your money if Prince went on to undress right in front of your eyes and shoot purple sperm into your face while you´re taking pics or something - instead of putting great musicians on stage. Excuse me for being blunt. I can´t stand disrespect towards great musicians.

Most of the people I went with thought the same as eggy and I have to agree. BTW, the greatness of musicians is also a matter of personal opinion. And I personally thought her appeareance was boring and not necessary

July 10, 2010 was my 78th Prince concert. Seeing Prince is all about the experience for me. His live concerts inspire me to be more artistic, creative. I can't complain about what he played our didn't play at Werchter for one reason and one reason only, Prince is still ALIVE and still performing, therefore I am grateful.

The Werchter gig was my first time ever seeing Prince in an outdoor arena or in this case a corn field. My crew and I got off the bus and started walking towards the festival grounds. It took us over 10 minutes to walk to the gate to pick up our tickets from will call. A walk that long with no roads is what we call a country mile in the U.S. I thought people were joking when they said the bus stopped 1 mile ( Europeans do the conversation) from the festival grounds.

We didn't purchase our tix for the gig until June and the golden circle tix were sold out. When we got the box office golden circle tix were still available. We asked if we could trade our tix for golden circle and pay the difference, the said we couldn't. We were right outside the golden circle close to the stage with the video cameras and sound equipment. The people in this area were standing on mats, not on the grass. Around 4:30pm we walked around the grounds to all the food and drink booths. It wasn't that crowded, maybe a couple thousand people.

Jamie Lidell and Mint Condition came on and off the stage there was a nice breeze, not hot, perfect weather for a t-shirt. I was watching these dark clouds roll in from behind the stage, hoping they wouldn't produce any rain. Around 8:10pm a rain drop here and there would hit the skin. Five minutes later it started to rain steadily and I pulled out my rain poncho and put it on. Graham Central Station took the stage around 8:20 pm. It rained throughout, people were soaked. I saw there were a couple of lighting strikes and I was saying, "Prince need to get on the stage because I didn't travel all the way from Chicago to Brussels for them to cancel a concert to do some lighting. GCS left the stage at 9:25 pm.

I was looking at my watch when the Prince symbol appeared on the video monitors at 9:35pm. Prince's band took the stage playing "Venus De Milo." Prince appeared in the outfit he wore at the BET Awards. The song list was similar to Arras except at 10:05pm Prince started performing "Purple Rain." I laughed because I never thought I will experience Prince performing that song while standing in the rain with purple lighting streaks going across the sky. It was the highlight of the concert for me. Throughout Prince's gig a crowd shot would appear on the monitors. I was amazed that the crowd went all the way back to the entry gates. We were 50 rows from the front which was a great location off all three monitors and we could see Prince on stage as well.

I enjoyed hearing ballads, but since we were so close to the Netherlands I was so hoping to hear, "It's Gonna Be A Beautiful Night." Prince had us repeat after him the the "oh e oh" enough times, he could have sang at least on verse, but he's Prince and he's going to perform whatever he wants and not what we want to hear.

The rain stopped around 10:50 pm. and Prince did three or four encores. I wasn't paying attention since I was watching six guys behind me carry this huge guy out of the crowd. This guy was out. Passed out. It's not an outdoor concert unless someone passes out and must be carried out of the venue.

After Prince feigned exhaustion, falling on the stage, lying on the stage, his final encore was "Musicology" and "Love, Rollercoaster." I like how he kept starting "Love, Rollercoaster" and saying "faster, faster, faster" for ther band to increase the tempo. It made the song sort of erotic. Like old school Prince. The Prince that introduced me to my sexuality. "Love, Rollercoaster" lasted for five minutes, then Prince walked away, came back to his guitar at 11:25 pm, said "She's a peach." The crowd screamed, he played the song guitar for 30-45 seconds, said "Thank You" put the guitar on the stage floor and left. It was almost a two-hour show. I thought it could have been longer since we were the rain drenched concertgoers. But, he did do an aftershow, which I missed.

All in all, seeing Prince in the rain did make it a beautiful night.

Thank you, Daffe for giving us a ride back to the hotel in Brussels.

The pro's & cons of the Werchter gig;

Pro's; The Rain, Jamie Lidell (loooved him!), Prince in a good mood, Mountains, Kiss, Forever in my life (3 highlights, what could a girl ask for more?), the audience, the venue, purple rain in the rain, Prince dancing, the guy with the harmonica (damn he was good), the band.

Cons; The Rain, Mint Condition (they sucked), Controversy (time to let that darling go live, so many other hits waiting to be played), bit overkill of Larry although it wasn't as bad as 1998, the way to overcrowded GC, couldn't move my ass at all so that made it my first Prince concert I haven't been really dancing on, the many many short encores (better 3 longer ones), and the finale song...a snippet of Peach which turned me crazy and then left me stunned (which is actually a plus).

Overall a great gig, loved it to hear him in open air again. NEVER EVER has there been a bad Prince gig for me. Just some better then others. LOVE HIM.

i had an amazing time. travelled from scotland to belguim by myself. i was so nervous about getting there because the bus office was on lunch and then i wasn't sure whether to try and speak french or flemish. it seemed very inconsisent even though i thought leuven was the dutch part. anyways got the bus and arrived at the gates about 2pm and sat outside in the sun. the whether was so hot. got inside about 16:15. and straIght into the gold circle. got a seat right at the front barrier left center and met 6 amazing ppl. two girls and a guy spoke english to me and we were able to hold each others spots when we went for walks.

both jamie and mint condition had their moments and i was dancing away happily. belguim people don't really like to dance (from what i've seen) but i had two rose hoegardens (never new they exsisteD) and i didn't care.

larry came on and as I play the bass I thought he was god. it was like seeing the bass yoda lol. though at the same time he plays his songs more or less carbon from the cd. the bass solo he always does, forget the name pow? is note for note how i learnt it when i first started playing, which always stricks me as odd.

prince was prince. i was so happy to here forever in my life. but was suprised that loads of people didn't seem to know it. a lot seemed to be there for the hits. which is a shame. i was dissapointed that prince still doesn't play many new songs. but loved LRC and mountains and delirious. party man was a suprise and i know prince aint going tp play possessed or any camille tracks or calhoun square or crystal ball but i like to hope at the same time. lol. i loved the atmospheare and i loved reapeating back prince's chants that i always here on boots.

prince was on dancing form. i swear prince smiled at my dancing - not that it was good or anything - but lots of time people were'nt dancing more waving there hands in the air.

I was so happy when it rained. the people i befriended but a pink lylo which they were holding above them and there was a big plastic sheet.when he played purple rain i thought the gig was over but then he did what he did in the o2 and kept vanshing (not in a box this time) and coming back. which kinda annoyed me a bit. he is such a performer but spends half the show wasting time. his energy made it better tho and it was nice to be surrounded by so many people enjoying it as much as me. at the me time it was surreal for me to be there. i am quite an anxious person so was quite proud of myself that i travelled from charleloi airport to brussells/leuven and wertcher by myself.

i was pretty annoyed after hearing there was aftershow. i had then money ready and would have literally done anything to go. but i went home on the bus and nobody was giving any indication. i suppose it is a thing people would like to keep to themselves tho.

i still had an amazing time tho, the best bit was being right at the front barrier and it was worth the money. i am always try to have £500 spare for prince last minute things. i would go to another european date but i don't think the set lists would change that much. here hoping that there is an aftershow i can go to soon

Why all so negative?? Maybe you have seen better, but come on.

I think he was great, and he really had have fun, i was front row and the crowd was really going wild there!!

But yes there was not really much space, but this is a concert, and well maybe because i've been to alot of concerts. But i thought it was normal to me, i could jump and move.

He smiled also alot to us, i guess.

But well, it was my first Prince concert. I mean he also getting older, i think he did a amazing job! Especially Kiss!

It was amazing!

Believe me, the GC was overcrowded. I've been to plenty of gigs in my time and it was overcrowded.

In response to chiron, if you read my post I was pretty critical of Prince too.

This band is not a great Prince band, it is an average one.

The three women putting on a show together wouldn't sell out your local jazz club - why should I be thinking 'this is amazing' when I have to listen to them singing a song that I don't like.

They get their moments on Take Me With U / NC2U - they don't need any more.

If you take away the uber-fan and the maiden Prince concert attendees the general consensus is these shows are pretty average. I think that sums it up.

Fully agree.

GC was absolutely overcrowded. I don't know how many ppl stepped on my feet when they went in/out to get beer. IN THE MIDDLE OF A CONCERT.

I would say the band was below average. No horns, no piano, no strings, no acoustic guitar.

forever in my life NEEDS an acoustic guitar to become the song it is.

All those covers... why ? I'm going to a Prince concert to hear Prince's music.
He's got plenty of songs he can pick from. And it don't always have to be the well known ones.

It's his JW limitation that somehow prohibits him from doing some great songs he once recorded.

Instead I was listening, better yet forced to listen, to Shelby J doing Angel.... damn... what a pile of horsepoop that was. That was the moment something inside me snapped.

I nver thought I would walk out of a P concert when it wasn't finished yet. Last satturday I did.

One thing on my mind. Damn he needs the money......

hey tweety

1- ofcorse people are allowed to express there feelings about the concert .but you have to agree with me that there is lots of negative vibe here. i have seen better concerts and i missed prince on piano .but this is a festival and it was raining if you play to much slow jams people will go away.and most people want to hear the same old classics but i don't mind that.

2 .so you want prince to just stand alone on that stage .why not give this new members the same chance like he did with wendy & lisa or candy dulfer sheila E ???

3.about larry the guy is funky .if he and prince want to be jw i respect that .i don't believe but i'm openminded and try to understand why ??? and if sitting around a campfire is this funky i'm there haha.

4.saying that this was his worst concert look at youtube and see again .not his best but the most fun .iff the crowd is going that crazy i think its not that bad or all the other 30.000 people are wrong

its ok to not like it but sometimes people go a little to hard .

That's because I was (am) very, very dissapointed.

To me, Larry killed the nastyness in Prince. One of the aspects I got hooked on him. A part of his (old) personality which created the funkiest, nastiest songs I liked to groove on.

That's why I sincerely hate Larry G. fryingpan (and I guess I'm not the only one here on the org)

By the way, comparing Shelby J to W&L , Candy Dulfer and Sheila E is an insult to the latter.

They are well established artists who have co-operated with many other musicians in the business besides P. Shelby J without P is like a glass of water without the glass. A puddle that will dry up and dissapear without anybody noticing.confused

Saturday's 'Mountains' was maybe one of the low-points of the show.........that songs just don't work without W&L, let alone Eric or Atlanta............
