Bigtime - he tried his best though even though Nokia's engineers sucked ASSSSS neutral

Really, how many times did they run back and forth behind the Lotusflow3r backdrop at the 1st show? They were running their butts off obviously in numerous attempts to fix the on-going issues, and still, after 90 minutes they were unsuccessful eek

Makes you wonder how much experience their employees have??

Its really sad because the entire complex is so beautiful, but this whole debacle will really give them a bad name. I don't think we'll ever pay $$$ to see any show(s) there again in the future.

Are ppl actually pissed that Prince played hits even after sayin he won't confused ?... Whether it was 2004 or present?
Why would something so trivial be so upsetting to ppl is wat I don't get confuse
In this particular 3 shows in 1 night --- he tried to mix it up to give everyone a lil bit o' satisfaction.
Some hits, some new, some (according to some ppl) he hasn't done live in a very long time.
I swear the words "HATER" is wayyy over-rated...smh

Folks, relax.
First all the criticism with the new site, now it's running quite well and ain't nobody mentioning no more..
Then he throws 3 albums at once at his fans, more criticism, now folks are criticizing while playing MPLS... strange indeed..
Now he's doing an awesome promo job playing 3 shows one night, and still it's not right. Too many hits, not enough hits, too many covers, man, what's he gonna do to make you feel good about being a fan? Do you really want to order shows exactly like you want em? Don't you think that would be quite boring as well?

To get the facts str8, just some sorting here (all 3 shows):

Hits:
Purple Rain
1999
I Feel For You
Controversy
Shhh
If I Was Your Girlfriend
Kiss
Let's Go Crazy
The Bird / Jungle Love
The Glamorous Life
Peach
Guitar
Insatiable
The Beautiful Ones
Nothing Compares 2 U

New songs (that's what promo concerts are about as well, right?):
Ol' Skool Company
Crimson And Clover
Colonized Mind
Dreamer

Cover versions:
Play That Funky Music White Boy
Hollywood Swinging
Come Together
With A Little Help From My Friends
All Shook Up
Spanish Castle Magic

Older songs, outtakes, rare tracks, some never played live before:

I’m Yours
I Like It There
Chaos And Disorder
Empty Room
When You Were Mine
Under The Cherry Moon
Dreamin' About U
When Eye Lay My Hands On U
Journey To The Center Of Your Heart
The Sun, The Moon And Stars
Sometimes It Snows In April (OK, call it a hit..)
When The Lights Go Down
I Love U But I Don’t Trust U Anymore
She Spoke To Me
A Large Room With No Light
Sweet Thing
Scandalous

Now we could go on for hours discussing whether "Peach" or "Insatiable" are considered "hits" or not, or whether you allow your favourite artist to do some covers for some time after touring for almost 30 years, but after the dust has cleared, I think we all could agree on the setlists played recently being a nice mixture of everything, no?

I was a little confused by the "hits" discussion, since I've never seen a setlist with so many rare tracks and outtakes since years...
So take this as some personal input to the buzz..

Peace,
DissCo

Nah...you could not have looked at the set list...lol....Because I didn't see a bunch of hits...In fact, the LA Times review of those shows made it a point to say Prince did a lot of obscure songs and album cuts...I mean when was the last time he played these songs live?:

if i was your girlfriend
Empty Room
Under The Cherry Moon
Dreaming Of U
Lay U're Hands On Me
The Sun, The Moon And Stars
Sometimes It Snows In April
I Like it There
I Love U But I Don’t Trust U Anymore
She Spoke To Me
Chaos & Disorder
A Large Room With No Light
I'm Yours (from the first Prince album...He hasn't done this song in over 25 plus years...lol)
Scandalous

And all this was done with left field covers like Elvis' "All shook Up" (folks are saying that he injected soul into this one...) and a smart cover of Jimi's "Spanish Magic.."along with some of the "hits" and new songs...

Again, there is nothing wrong with having smart criticism about Prince....People catch too much shit on this site for attempting to have a strong debate about the man...

But when folks like yourself start posting up stuff that's just not true (this is not about whether or not you liked the performance...This is about posting bullshit just to make a few Sonny & Cher jokes...lol...but in order for it to be funny in this instance, it has to be truthful...and you are full of shit...Ha!) it gives the folks who are sincerely critical of Prince on this board a bad name...

I don't think Prince cares all that much. He might now that it made it into print, but honestly Prince hasn't had good sound since Scotty left (post 2002).
ONA live sounded amazing, and the Musicology tour was a major downturn from that level of quality. Most surprising to me, and what really lead me to believe Prince doesn't care all that much about the quality of his live system and mix, was that his stationary setup in Vegas was well below what is possible at that venue, and never inproved over the months that he performed there.

I don't have a problem with him playing the hits, crikey I saw 8 of the O2 gigs in 2007. I just wish we could get away from the whole hits for the last time statements. Its inaccurate and makes him look him look desperate for ticket sales.

Such great set lists! Too bad about the sound problems but I'm sure still sounded good. Been to many shows by others and my own boyfriend's band, most of the audience doesnt even notice technical problems unless totally outrageous. So while I'm sure P was pissed if he couldnt hear himself and band, it probably sounded good out front and I doubt there were many complaints by audience. I am interested to know if any in attendence did notice the sound being that off (that it drove P to complain). Any input by those in attendence on how the sound was to them?
As I've said here before, I saw P at Empire Ball Room in Vegas couple years ago and he was pissed about the sound there also... really complained, though jokingly to start, about soundman/mens skills and finally stated that if you want something done right you had to "do it yourself." He seemed so bothered by the sound that night that it really affected the mood of the show, and one could visibly see that he didnt relax and enjoy himself that night like I have been fortunate to witness him do so on many other occassions (I also have to mention that this show was shortly after his public split from Manuela so overall he may not have been in most happy/pleasant frame of mind to begin). We all know P is a perfectionist and wants things done his way, so I've got to think this sound issue, being to the point of him throwing out names by the end of the night, had to really affect the feel of the shows.
Kudos to P though for pulling off this feat, because anyone in music knows how hard it is to make sure that the sound is just right at one show venue on any given day, let alone 3 different venues. What other musician is going to bring this much to their fans? I hear a lot of complaints about P, but I think it is evident he appreciates his fans and truly loves to share his passion/joy with us.

Just a thought ... but why did he not just do a soundcheck at the 3 venues the day before... or the morning of?

People paid hundreds of dollars to sit through a soundcheck at the second show?

Me not being at any of the shows I wouldn't like to comment at how bad the sound really was.... But for such a huge artist this is basic stuff right?

If he knew that the sound was known for being bad ... why not spend a little time and money to make sure it's right on the night ... maybe even bring in your own PA system for a night.

...It's only the launch night for your new album, yeah who cares if the press just focuses on how bad the sound was ha-ha.

I think a manager is in need .... I know Prince thrives on being this free spirit, but it might help if there is someone in the Prince camp who can channel your ideas into normality business.

Have you ever heard of a major act complaining about the concert promoters sound set up while performing ?

We attended 2 shows Nokia Theatre and Club Nokia.

At the first show, from our center loge seats, we didn’t hear most of the sound problems. My husband’s brother had 5th row member tix though and he said they heard some of the mic / speaker problems (he still walked away from it though saying how fantastic the show was and he has seen 14 Prince shows over the past 25 years) The biggest thing Prince complained about at this show was the fact that HIS monitors were not working.

As for Club Nokia, we heard some humming/buzzing from his mic on occasion, but again, I think Prince was hearing much more of it from his vantage point. Even Chaka agreed with him on the sound issues she mentioned it right before she walked off the stage and then Prince looked at the crowd and said, "I TOLD YA!" In my opinion, his voice sounded as magnificent as ever...still brought tears to my eyes when he sang The Beautiful Ones, Scandalous, and Insatiable so beautifully cool

was at all 3 shows and frankly thought they were AMAZING if you look past the sound issues. He played IN A LARGE ROOM WITH NO LIGHT!! come on! That ALONE was priceless. It was brilliant the way each set had a different musical theme: The NPG kicking butt as usual, then Mike and Sonny (HELLO?) and Rhonda, Renato and John Blackwell? Wow. It would be hard to top this night (other than the same thing with better sound, of course)>

What's with reporters who can't even bother to get people's names right? All they did was basically go to a concert they know nothing about and tweet stuff without even bothering to find out the names of songs or band members. Lazy. May as well grab any random schmuck off the street to do that.

Hollywood Swinging
Harmonica solo

The Bird
Jungle Love
The Glamourous Life with Sheila E!!!!!

Yeah there really are no hits there? And why are you having a pop at me? I never said I wouldn't play the hits again and then promptly did?

I do not know what your problem is swanny, but as someone who went to all three shows, I know that it was not all about the hits. I also know that Prince is smart enough to know what to play where. To make your baseless points, you focused on 1/3 of the night. Of course he was going to play hits at the main show at the biggest venue because it is obvious that the majority of the audience would be casual fans who enjoy the hits. What is he going to do, play rarities and obscure cuts for this kind of crowd? That would be stupid.

However, for the smaller venues he did play obscure jams and smart covers. The set lists were perfectly planned for each show and audience. If you had been there, you would have known that. You'd also know it if you could objectively view the facts and post the whole 3-show set list instead of the one that suits your weak argument. Why don't you switch your brain on and switch your bias off?
