Prince has pulled out of his imminent Irish gig Thousands of Prince fans were left disappointed and many out of pocket after the US rocker pulled out of his imminent Irish gig.

The musician gave no excuse for cancelling the near sell-out show due to take place next Monday in Dublin.

Fans were expected to fly in from abroad as well as throughout Ireland. Many of them, gearing up for what was expected to be a highlight of this year's music calendar, will lose money having booked flights, trains and accommodation.

Promoters MCD said the show was cancelled for reasons beyond the control of both Prince and themselves. More than 55,000 fans who'd already bought a ticket will be refunded the full price including the booking fee, an MCD spokesman said.

MCD applied to Dublin City Council (DCC) for a licence for the concert on January 2. Because three concerts had already been granted permission for Croke Park - the maximum allowed in any year for the stadium under planning regulations - the promoters applied for a special licence for the Prince gig. This public events licence was finally granted on May 22.

Construction of the stage at the GAA arena had already begun, but crew were told to halt after Prince's management contacted promoters to cancel the Irish trip.

MCD said plans were under way to try to reschedule for next year, but with nothing confirmed it would give a full refund to ticket-holders. This can be obtained from the Ticketmaster outlet where it was purchased from 9am on Friday morning, according to the promoter.

I just feel sick to the stomach when i think about it, this time last week i hadn't planned on going, but while watching vh1 on sat night it got me right in the mood and i booked all on sunday morning,
i was so excited, as i've had a terrible 4 months and this really lifted my spirits, part of me still doesn't believe it even though i know its true.... just so upset
