MACEO EUROPEAN TOUR Maceo's tour starts tonight in the Isle of Wight, UK and heads around Europe hitting Germany, France, Switzerland, Netherlands, Spain and Ireland.
Is anyone planning on going to any of the dates? Would love to read reviews, setlists, see photos etc etc from anyone who'll be seeing the tour. I'll be heading to the last scheduled tour date in Leicester, right in the middle of my finals but it's Maceo so got to be there!! Also does anyone know if he's left the Prince touring band for the moment? These dates clash with Coachella and he's playing a NYC show June 18th, which is probably too close to the Dublin/possible European tour. Friday 11th April Jazz Festival Isle of Wight Saturday 12th April Banlieues Bleues Paris Sunday 13th April Patronaat Haarlem Wednesday 16th April Komedia Brighton Thursday 17th April Stylus Leeds University Union Friday 18th April JazzFest Gronau Sunday 20th April Jazzahead Bremen Monday 21st April Glaeserne Manufaktur Dresden Tuesday 22nd April Jazzhaus Freiburg Wednesday 23rd April Kofmehlhalle Solothurn Thursday 24th April Wagenhallen Stuttgart Friday 25th April Centralstation Darmstadt Saturday 26th April La Mirona Girona Sunday 27th April Les Docks Lausanne Monday 28th April L'Usine Istres Wednesday 30th April Les Arcs Queven Thursday 1st May Cheltenham Jazz Festival Friday 2nd May Kammgarn Kaiserslaughtern Saturday 3rd May Bray Jazz Festival Co. Wicklow Sunday 4th May Theatre Royal Norwich Monday 12th May Abdijplein Middelburg Tuesday 13th May Strobels Dortmund Thursday 15th May De Montford Hall Leicester

I'm going to the Brighton gig on Wednesday and am really looking forward to it. I'm rubbish at remembering details of gigs (too busy having a good time) but will try to give a general review after the show.

Ok, report:
Funky Fiesta Maceo looked great, the band was super-sharp, it was amazing. You couldn't tell Maceo's age, but while looking at his hands, well, you could, a little. But hell, who's looking at his hands? De trombone-player was cute, the bass-player fat but genius, man on keys (only white fella) looks a bit like Hannibal. The trompet-player is a comic talent. Just watch his face! Kick-ass drummer and the background vocals were fabulous. This woman (played with James Brown) had my curly blond hair, but was in fact a chocolate brown woman. And she could sing! uptown up, to be or not to be, what you know about funk, soul power, got to get u and then the known Maceo-mix of songs, thanking the band, solo's, thanking the band again, telling the crowd that he loves them, joking around, shaking his hips, asking the crowd to please give it up for the band, calling them all by name, pointing his finger to no-one in particular and, well, playing a flut. I'm serious. And he does that damn well. We thought that Candy would show up, but she didn't. Last song? Pass the Peas, ofcourse, otherwise I wouldn't have left. I have to warn you for the strange white woman with colourful jacket. I thought she was a little koo-koo in the head. Anyway, they all shook hands with whoever wanted to do so at the end, so that sweet.
